It is surprising that you chose the top spec Prado but didn't test against the top spec Tank 300 which is the hybrid option that adds heaps especially power but is still 30-40% less. Plus I know the 500 is aimed at the Landcruiser and Patrol but the Tank 400 hybrid would be my pick as a direct competitor with the non-luxury, highly offroad capable 70 series. It is astonishing that GWN doesn't see a market for a tougher, offroad tourer, heavier load carrier/tow vehicle in Australia when the sales of 70s and Rams are booming when the Tank 400 adds hybrid power, capability and convenience that the 300 and 500 are more unsuited to. Forget the inner city numpties who are spoilt for choice but rural, remote Australia needs tougher, more utilitarian load carriers that mining industry buys and relies on, most industries rely on along with adventurers and Grey Nomads. Hybrids done well will work great, for many reasons.

From what I've see in other reviews, the tank has on road calibrated traction control. If you go off road you need to activate options. Apparently "Pot Hole" is the off road traction control calibration. Select it and the traction control kicks in allowing you to climb on undgelating surfaces with total ease, braking the correct wheel at the correct time keeping momentum going. Should have tried that, yes using the toys on offer. If that lets you down you can always revert to diff locks. Mind you, on scably stuff, just go diff locks to avoid drive line damage, front CV's are vunerable to shock damage.
@phillipsaw Жыл бұрын
Strange that 'Pothole' mode was edited out of the video showing the drive modes. In fact every Australian review I've seen avoids using this mode for offset moguls which is exactly what it is meant for. It is very difficult without off-road vehicles, but Japanese off-road vehicles are the most popular off-road vehicles in China. what about real world fuel consumption? The tank is up near 20 litres per 100km. You have to turn the diff locks off for the Tank Turn???? If you were needing the tank turn, that is when you may need the diff locks.

Love the idea of the Tank and looks so bloody capable offroad, but the GVM is way too low and makes it an unrealistic option for families who intend to use the vehicle to go camping/touring. Also, I doubt we will see the 500 anytime soon, because it would make the 300 obsolete.

For me, you can’t compare that brand, an unknown brand or not tested brand to a tested and reliable Toyota Land Cruiser. Not just because it’s cheaper. That’s why Land Cruisers are not cheap because we all know it, that why it still exist today.

@@hynoor7254 i know. That’s why toyota is also changing. Before there cars aren’t high tech featured cars but now they are adopting. That’s because of competition. But you can’t really compare that to Prado. And that’s even a dated model. And even with that, the resale value, the reliability it doesn’t even gets close. And with the upcoming model, I don’t. That’s just my opinion.

@@janrodneysantos9894 I know one thing about the upcoming model. It's still using the 15 years old powerless 4 cylinder diesel engine. @janrodneysantos9894 Жыл бұрын
@@tacticalaccountant is the engine reliable or not? Cause if not then Toyota should change it. Yeah it’s under powered. Maybe they do some tweaks on the new model but it’s a very reliable engine. But what brand doesn’t? At least you know if you had this Land Cruisers you know it will really last long. I don’t even own one. Can’t even afford one but we all know that Land Cruisers are very reliable.

@ianweal3081 Жыл бұрын
The Tank does both with one button apparently, same button for descent & ascent. Then just set the speed for either, it will make it happen for you. That's smart. Comes with all the fruit others call optional extras, tis a special rig. Behind the scene development in Australia by aftermarket companies will have this rig in high demand real soon. GWM is making an impact on our market, like it or not.
@Wednesdayat11 Жыл бұрын
@ianweal3081 it's similar but different. I'm not saying it's shit but the crawl control in the prado is different to the HDC style drive modes. The tank is ok, its a bit rough and unrefined in a few ways but for 50k it will do well down the tracks.
@SavageTechAustralia Жыл бұрын
Actually the tank has both systems and they are separate. Cruise control offroad mode which is selected using the buttons next to the gear lever and then speed is adjusted through the cruise control stalk. Ok. Say you’ve got a clean sheet. Own nothing. Caravan will cost you about $65K, Prado will cost you around $70K minimum. So that’s $135K. That’s a lot of money. So, how about a rethink. (I ride motorcycles on long trips, just to put it in context. I don’t need the luxury you guys do) take the GWM Tank, minimum of clothes, a tent, a fridge, a small stove, recovery gear, dual batteries. Taking the bare minimum means payload now becomes irrelevant. And saves a heap of cash. Do you REALLY need a caravan? Really? Ask yourselves the hard questions.

Only Australian believe GWM is cheaper than Toyota. The higher price, the better quality of the merchandise. GWM has a lower price because they have billions of us dollars Chinese government subsidies. The price is the result of the international trade balance between PRC and Aus. Where is the Recirculation button on the Tank? This is an essential button that needs to be available 100% of the time as you need to be able to access it within 1-2 seconds; for example when a filthy diesel pulls away from you at the lights belching a black cloud of fumes. Or you round a corner into a cloud of pollen or dust on a gravel road. It’s not optional. There MUST be a button either physical or persistent on EVERY SINGLE page of a touchscreen. Not negotiable. As for maps. You are not limited to just Google maps and coverage with the Tank. You can use Apple Maps as well as any offline maps you have on your phone so coverage is kinda irrelevant. Your payload figures while towing are an assumption. You can have a towball mass of 5%. There IS NO 10% rule or law. But yeah, the Tank payload is pitiful. Completely pointless in the Prado using Low Range, locking both diffs, raising the ride height for that tiny bit of gravel/dirt though. Overkill really. As for the Tank - should not have needed lockers at all. It must have pretty rubbish traction control if it can’t brake a wheel to move forward. That terrain does not require lockers at all.
