@WW-wf8tu2 жыл бұрын
And when the pavement ended, so does the AWD. lol This is why I bought a 4Runner over a Lexus or something that has those ridiculous chins and no underbody protection. I dig the rides of the upper trim vehicles, but w/out the protection under our vehicle, we are just asking for potential vehicle damage resulting in thousands of dollars worth of shop time. Had that issue with a 2006 Chevy Trail Blazer SS. AWD was good. 6.2L engine, powerful. 22 inch tires, not ideal. But also there was an air dam up front and no underbody protection. It was a miserable set up. And it would have stopped right where you did. If not sooner. Because as you know our snow goes from powder to slush to ice clumps in a 24 hour period. And that tore up some of that plastic cladding on that vehicle. Anyhow, Happy New Year. Looking forward to what you have for us next year. :)

It still blows my mind that the US spec cars get the XRT trim which is the “off road” one but without the terrain modes that the Canadian and international models get. It’s annoying, I’ve tested all the modes and mud/sand are FAR more aggressive shifting torque left to right with wheel breaking than snow, smart, or sport. The us models don’t get the better htrac programming. Just something to note.
@michaelhefford6420 Жыл бұрын
I have a Canadian model called the Urban, which looks like this, but with more features. It might look “off-road”, but that’s an appearances package only, it’s just a flimsy plastic rocker guard that’s different than other models. It is amazing though in snow. I just tested mine with proper winter tires in 10-12 cms of heavy snow and it was like driving on dry pavement. Stop and start in hills, I issue at all, not even a little tire spin. My one and only complaint is the location of the front radar, which is low on the bumper and collects snow easily which then sets off a bunch of warnings. It’s a pain to keep clear.

In my experience and in my opinion, Subaru and Jeep and maybe Toyota are the only manufacturers that have very capable awd systems, now when it comes to how the awd systems were designed and how the manufacturers intended their awd system to handle all the intended capabilities particularly under extreme use(aka hardcore multi-terrain abuse) on a long term durability basis….to me there’s no better awd system that meets and/or far exceeds all their intended capabilities and that bad ass system is Subaru’s legendary symmetrical awd system!!! My 2018 Outback that I owned for 2 years has been thru so much hardcore abuse whether on-road or off-road!!! I would basically hit the off-road trails every other weekend and I’m talking about off-roading it over 8 hours straight on a Saturday or on a Sunday, I pushed my Subie’s awd system so much so that my brand spanking new Toyo open country all terrain tires i installed 2 years/40k miles ago will need to be replaced with new ones pretty soon…..yet not even once have I ever had any trouble with my Subie’s awd system! Nor has my Subie’s awd system ever overheated, not even once!!! And we’re talking about me getting my wheels to spin and spin and spin until it get enough traction to grip us over any off-road obstacle!!! Nor have I ever had any mechanical problems with my 2018 Outback!!! And its the same with all the other Subie’s I’ve had the pleasure to test drive for a couple weeks and or months, including a 2020 Outback Onyx XT, 2022 Outback Premium and a 2022 Crosstrek Base trim……now sure those weren’t tested long term but for the several weeks or months that I did have them, i made sure to drive them to the extreme!! Just like if they were my personal vehicles!!! And yet, none of their awd systems overheated!!! As matter of fact, I didn’t even know what the “awd overheated” dash warning light looked like until i looked it up in the owners manual….so yea man, Subie for the win!!!!

You know, the biggest problem with some people that think they know how to drive in the snow is that they always drive in the tracks. Here in NM, those track are usually glare ice. The snow offers a LOT more traction that the ice does. And they also drive way too fast, and once the vehicle starts sliding on the ice, they're WAY out of their league trying to not crash.

But the question now is, why are you wearing the coat INSIDE the car? Does not the climate control/heated seats keep you warm enough? Anyway, lot of people do that, and it always seems so peculiar to me. As for the Palisade, the covered cup holder/bin is always my preference in design since leaving them uncovered only invites unsightly lint and trash accumulation. However, putting the phone charger on the bottom next to the cup holders is just asking for trouble. Forget to put the lid on securely and one sudden stop and your phone is covered by a sticky gooey latte.
