I feel the exact same as you do about PHEVs, it seems like a sweet spot to me. Like sometimes I'll take a trip that could be 500 miles or more, I don't want to be hassled with waiting for charge or having to find chargers, it's better to just have gas for long trips and electric for around town. I'd love to have one of these cars 100%.

This might be one of the most affordable plug in cars on the market, until dealership mark-ups/ interet rate diminish any type of cost savings.

For barely more money, you could buy a Sportage PHEV or Tucson PHEV - both with AWD. While I like the styling of the new Niro, Kia has priced it well above where it should be.

The issue in many areas can be availability and stealership markups. I was looking for a Sportage PHEV to replace my '21 ICE Sportage - good luck! They were asking $10k over for the one they just got in, and someone bought it before I could even get there to test drive it. After going through that for 2 months I decided to test drive a Niro. It was shockingly nice! Much more affordable, fully loaded and I was able to get just a bit above MSRP. And is the Niro too expensive? Yes, but right now all hybrid/EV vehicles are - especially without the tax rebates.

Sportage at the trim 2 level has nothing, and you'll be paying a lot more than the niro for higher trims

The more videos I watch on this PHEV KIA, the more I'm falling in love with it. I'm driving a 2022 Hyundai Kona and was automatically going to just upgrade to the 2024 Kona, but now this vehicle has me looking away from Hyundai. The new KONA is just an odd looking SUV and this is less "weird". Also, having a PHEV is a better alternative to an EV, as I'll never have to worry where to plug in when I park at the airport, or down the shore when visiting Mom's beach house.

Paddle shifters control regen in eco mode, and select gears in sport mode. It really sucks that the PHEV isn't eligible for the $4300 tax credit anymore, otherwise it would be an obvious choice.

That button turns off the scheduled charging you can set on the menu or the app. In case you need to charge while you're out. In sport mode the paddles switch to changing gear. I chose the PHEV over the hybrid for the outgoing model as it was noticeably quicker. I'm interested how the larger motor increases that gap.

Ben, I have a lot of highway drive in my future. Can’t find separate city/hwy ratings for Niro PHEV in hybrid mode. Have you found this? A lot of PHEVs suffer on highway for weight of 2 power trains and wind resistence. Is the the Niro closely matched city vs highway or is it like the plain hybrid with the touring wheels that’s way poorer on highway?? Thanks!! PS: take the rate back about 10%. You’re talking so fast, so of the info is almost lost.

The fuel economy for Niro PHEV sounds great. The dash is not as attractive as Mitsu Outlander PHEV, though.

Nice, we love our PHEV (4xe). Review the Volvo EX90 electric SUV when you can, it was described in some detail by Volvo today, with its 110 kWh battery.

So how come your not a fan of regular hybrids? You get almost double mpg compared to gas only cars. I’m debating if I want to go all gas since the hybrid car u do want to trade my Honda for is out of stock and long wait for preorder

Kia is consistent with great packaging/value for such a compact platform' still putting some luxury brands to shame.
