Thank you for this video. I have a 2023 40th and recently put a CTS turbo intake and inlet pipe. Feels good to verify that modifying the the intake can slightly add more power because for me it feels to add more throttle response at low speeds and the turbo sounds amazing.

Sound always enhances the experience. We will be doing some more testing here shortly to quantify some of these gains.

Hi Alex here in South Africa and in a few other country's we get the mk8 gti with the EA888 gen3 with IHI is20 im not sure why we dont get evo4 like you'll get🤷‍♂️. And usually with vw we always got the new model with the lastest engine now all of a sudden they giving us a golf mk7.8gti🙆‍♂️. What your thoughts on our spec we get?

Very interesting. It looks like stock for stock there is very little difference in power. As we tune it will be revealed if evo4 is indeed much better. The interior of the MK7 is much better. Wish they kept that.

The 4 is a little better but the gen 3 is proven and you have about 5x as many mods available. The gen 4 has much higher fueling capabilities stock so you can go full e85 without changing the hpfp

@@crispyone2564 ok thanks so we found out that our mk8 gti gen 3 also have upgraded fueling and we also use the new DQ381 gearbox so their are improvements but I think the IHI is20 we get isn't as good as the new Garret turbo the Evo4 mk8 gti have in terms of tuning/power, cause those Garret turbo make about 350whp easy when tuned compared to stock IHI is20 which Max's at like 320-330 if u lucky 🤷‍♂️

I have the 40th anniversary as well but mine came with the base infotainment. im confused now.

Was it an option? His had a heads up display as well but this is a Canadian car.

Canadian 40th has what in the US would be “SE” equipment. The US 40th has mostly base “S” equipment.

Poverty spec? It's the same car as the 40th. Just has bigger wheels and some stickers. It's also 4k more. I just got the base model and put better wheels on for 2K.

I definitely agree you can certainly upgrade with better for less. This is why I prefer the base car and then upgrading.

We have been changing fuels on the same car and noted no power loss - this is untuned. With a tune things may change. We should have these results soon.

If you love your GTI you would never put 87 in it. I put a gallon or 2 of 100 octane in when I’m on that side of town to get me up to 94 octane. I miss Sunoco 94

These engines run well on 87. I know it’s blasphemy but from the engine design and tuning perspective it’s quite something to be able to do that with a turbo motor.

Video Time 9:40-9:43 - 236/285 in 4th gear on 93 octane was higher than the run on 87, not less. 4th gear (.93) is closest to 1:1 in this transmission. 6 speed manual 4th gear ratio is 1.09.

87 are for lawnmowers 😂. 91 are min. 93 recomended in EU. 91 are more or less standard fuel here, and are the min. you will find.

You will be surprised how the same rated octane fuel will perform differently depending on region.

⁠@@stratifiedauto I can imagine. Im not a huge Ethanol fan, but it is the way it goes. It is strange how diffrent octane recommendations are on the same engines variates, one sold in us and another i eu. Almost all Toyotas are 95 ron min. (Us 91) in eu, but the very same engine sold in us would be 87 (eu 91 ron).

my stock S series 6 speed manual dyno numbers are much better than yours. Did you do it wrong? Or is this just what you expect from the automatic version? Honestly the DSG option is embarrassing in and of itself. Shame.

You have to remember that different dynos read differently. Our Mustang dyno is known to read low. This is why you have to compare cars on the same dyno for it to be a valid comparison. There shouldn’t be a difference in output between the 2 transmissions.

That actually makes a lot of sense. After talking to the boys at the shop they confirm that some dynos read slow. They suggested calibrating your dyno though as they are using the same MD as in the video. So the DSG will output the same as the manual transmission? I find it shifts at much later/higher RPM's than we do in our manuals. From all the testing done so far it seems our 6 speed times are faster. Simply by virtue of shifting at 5,000 instead of 6,200. TYhe power band falls flat after 4500.@@stratifiedauto

The power output is the same between the transmissions. Using the latest MD software you can’t calibrate your dyno to read higher or lower. Which is a good thing. It’s tempting to manipulate numbers.

Your opinion regarding transmission is exactly that, just an opinion. I've owned 5 GTI's and a Corrado VR-3, 3 manuals and 3 DSG's, and wouldn't go back to a manual as the DSG is more efficient and easier to use in urban/suburban traffic, that's my opinion. I have nothing against manual transmissions, except for the fact that it's becoming a bit of a religion.

Looks like trash TBH. Volkswagen has really dropped the ball on the MK8's exterior and interior design. The World has gone nuts when Audi and German designers are being plucked by Korean manufacturers and Volkswagens are looking like something KIA would make. Epic fail ...

You're just like the manual transmission guy, full of opinions. Aesthetics are subjective, there's no right or wrong, and I think the mk8 looks great. Yeah, they cheaped out on the interior, but for the roughly $33K CDN I paid for my '22 base model, it's a tremendous value, far more sophisticated than Korean brands. And talk about ugly, the Elantra N looks like it was drawn with a protractor and a ruler during a boring math class, and that's my opinion.
