Markups killed all enthusiast/fun cars. They're marketed at younger crowd at prices they can afford but that is useless because USA has franchise laws that prohibit direct sales. Car has to go to a third-party parasite that gets to hold it hostage until you pay a ransom called ADM before they'll release the car to you that they had NOTHING to do with when it came to R&D. US is a third world country in so many aspects and US citizens are so oblivious to it. From car industry to healthcare costs, to roads, to rail cars, etc.

@@YasssStitch I’m far from a US cheerleader, but geeze get a grip. I travel all over the world for my job, I lived abroad in Asia for several years, and I have family that live in Western Europe. I've owned 4 Z-cars, and really wanted to buy one of these. Unfortunately the supply is severely limited (intentionally), and the few in stock have stupid big mark-ups on them. Nissan is losing a lot of sales by limiting the production so much, and dealers are killing us with the price mark-ups. It's really depressing.

Hopefully now that the chip shortage becomes a thing of the past they can start churning out cars again. The car makers want to sell as many as possible, it's the dealers who take advantage of the lack of supply.

I was really excited about this car, but I was priced out of it so hard. I used to have a 370Z and loved it. The price actually had me looking at Camaros, and I lucked into a 2022 Camaro 1SS with a hodge podge of options for right at 40k. I wouldn't be able to touch a Z for that, and the Z doesn't have 455/455 HP/TQ... I wasn't prepared for 30MPG on the highway when I got the Camaro, either.

And with a few hundred bucks worth of suspension upgrades it can be made into a very capable sports car. I remember my first SPL Parts upgrades and how it changed the car dramatically! I like the comfortable touring ride for road trips and commuting with the OEM adjustable dampers, but having another Z that had the upgrades for track duty is very nice also. When the markups go away for these, or they start popping up second hand, I'm going to do the same since like the Z32 the looks of the RZ34 are just timeless!

I've dailied my 2006 S2000 for the last going-on 7 years. Everyone wants a car that drives like an S2000, but most of that comes from the car feeling so analog. An S2000 drives like a car built in 2006 because it isn't disconnected with sound deadening (though it has a HORRIBLE electronic steering rack). The new Z clearly drives like it was built in 2006, and it clearly has A TON of sound deadening in the trunk you can remove. You get the vintage, analog driving dynamics with the reliability of a modern car (don't have to replace 20-year-old bushings, wheel bearings, engine mounts, abused clutch, valve adjustment, TCT, water pump, alternator, etc.). Honestly, despite the CTR/ITS, N cars, GR86 twins, and the like being great PERFORMANCE cars, this car excites me the most because it's basically a 2003 Z with turbochargers and a better aesthetic. The engine has been proven to be reliable, so it's a win-win. Really excited to try this out.

Yeah 40k for a dinosaur of a car with an open diff is insane. Be one thing if it was like 200hp….but a 400hp turbo engine… 50k for the sport trim is outrageous for what you get. All the competitors are far superior… I really like the styling, but that’s about it. Too expensive for what you’re getting.

@@NDEEZMiata I don't even mind that it's a dinosaur in many ways, since I love the 03. It would make for a great grand tourer. But to add to your point, you can get a brand new BRZ for 30k that comes standard with an LSD, and that's a sharper more focused sports car. I'm a big fan of the Z, but not for 50k. Currently BRZ is topping my list because it's such a great bargain imo.
@NDEEZMiata
@NDEEZMiata 11 ай бұрын
@@Fordguy1997 that’s the thing, if you want a sharper car there’s better and cheaper options. If you want a GT car, same deal. Doesn’t make sense when you could buy a 350 or 370 and largely have the same experience for way less money. If you can deal with the size, the ND2 Miata is fantastic. I had a first gen BRZ, won’t touch another Subaru again personally. The Miata is basically perfect, axleback exhaust is all it needs. It’s a really small car though, so doesn’t work for everyone. My favorite car I’ve owned though. Fun at all speeds. Had a 19 SS 1LE, amazing car but too fast for my lead foot. Had to absolutely be hammering it for it to really come alive.

Read Patrick Wyman's writings on the American gentry and you'll understand why rent-seeking behavior by local dealerships towards consumers is tolerated. Dealerships dominate local chambers of commerce who, in turn, help bankroll elected officials into local, state and federal positions and then engage in regulatory capture making dealerships immune to notorious anti-consumer extortion like ADM for enthusiast cars.

I have the performance Z and just put the NISMO cat back exhaust on by NISSAN. It is a big improvement and sounds like it should. Its not to loud but comes to life under load but quiet cruising, about the same as the road noise. Throttle response is much better. It definitely adds HP that traction control covers up and makes it unnoticeable until you disable it. It also helps a lot for me to control the power by the sound vs just using the feel or depending on Traction Control. This is not my first Z I started back in 1980 with the 280 and had one of every version since. The 300 zx twin turbo was always my favorite until now. At this point in my life I can afford to buy a fun car at 4 times the price but picked the Z because of the retro and not because its all new. I can also drive with the windows down something I like to do. I have owned many other cars trucks to many to list and wondered why they didn't just use a proven design form the past because it worked so well. But to instead they changed something a system just to say its new that went from great to crap. To say you have taken a design and improved it is a good way to go. Although there are many similarities the z is everything you ever dreamed of and everything you every wanted your 370 to be. Now that said you will likely and just like in the past be wanting to make the car preform and sound the way you want. And its easy to do if you have the money to do so. Although there is nothing wrong now with the way it came from the factory. In additional to the exhaust I do plan to Track this car but mainly it will be just a fun weekend car but my next step is to install some NISMO coil overs. It won't change the ride but give it that extra stiffness that I want for track. The Z is a Bad Ass retro ride and totally a ticket machine. I have 2500 miles on mine now one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had a 2000 911 for about 2 years. The Z is faster for one and now sounds much the same and handles close if you could get the traction. But the biggest thing I have a 7 year warranty free oil changes with the Z. The 911 cost a lot to maintain AKA IMS Bearing the reason I got rid of it. This Z is a Z not in the same class as the C8 vet the C8 is a super car, if you thinking about that and likely a safer car do to no wheel spin. I had that choice and went with the Z. But the Z just fits me and I like a little wheel spin at times.

Finally saw one in person the other day. I was hoping it would look better than video, but it was exactly what I expected. I think the twins look better and they're more like an OG Z (I have a GR86 and had a 240 and 260Z). This is more like an '80s ZX, which is not my thing, but I'm sure is better for long distance cruising. Too bad about the dealers, too. You CAN find the twins at MSRP if you're lucky or patient (I was the former), but one is highly unlikely to find the new Z without ADM seeing as Nissan dealers are the height of sleaze. It's a cool car and I'm always glad to see anything that isn't yet another damn C/SUV, but the price before ADM is borderline at best seeing as the LSD is a high extra cost (standard on the twins with a lot less power) and forget about it with the ADM.

It's honestly both good and bad that you go through the car and can be like "yup exactly like it was on the 350". It really seems like Nissan's performance division is just kinda sticking with what they have, just doing little updates here and there, even for what is ostensibly a new car with the Z. Like the GTR as well, just getting a facelift despite being like 15 years old. At least the engine seems to be a lot better, so that much is changed/improved. Really sucks about the price (well, the markups), but that goes for everything now, especially cars.

Yeah this has always been Nissan's thing, the whole incremental improvement philosophy. Even though an R32 and R34 look different a lot of the suspension and engine upgrades were interchangeable, there were even parts that could be swapped between the GT-R and Z and S chassis of those similar years, but the cars were all made for different drivers. The R35 and RZ35 we can buy today are way better than the cars from 20 years ago even though they share the same chassis. It's like Nissan kept all the things that worked improved the stuff that didn't and knew certain parts like exhausts and suspension were going to be upgraded anyway by enthusists. Plus I will take a JDM classic that was evolved by the original manufacturer over a Euro tuner car with a nostalgia stick swap any day.

I wish Toyota had the same philosophy. I would much rather have an updated 2JZ -- a rebadged BMW is off the table for me. That engine is still used in motorsport. Put it with a new ECU and we're good. Most car technology was nailed down in the 90s; small increments to perfect the flaws detected in 20 years of usage is all we really need.

Juts bought a 2024 sport 01/24. Wish it had positive traction, but I am very happy with the car. It's a rocket with just a bit of danger as he said in the video. It really can be scary in the sport with a bit less grip with Yokahama performance tires and no positive traction, but I can replace those for under a grand. Unfortunately I had to sacrifice for wallet's sake. The performance has 2 different size tires on front and back, so expect to fork out more to keep your performance model tip top. I am still feeling out the cars limits and have some breaking in to do before I really turn her loose. Oh....for those in the know and curious, they fixed the 2nd gear grinding problem that some complained about in early releases. No gear grind at all. PLENTY of juice to get your adrenaline pumping. I ovend several "Z" starting in the 80; I had a twin trubo, what at the time, had alot of horsepower, but it was worse than maintaining an F-14 fighter. The last one I had was a 350z. I was a fast car, but quailty wasn't at the top of Nissan's list.

Interesting. Car enthusiasts these days are going on and on about how in the "good old days" - which in many cases refers to the 90s or early 2000s - were better (and exciting products of that era are indeed shooting up in value recently). We have this now, which is exactly what the recipe describes - a new car that's like the old ones, because it kind of is. And yet when you think about spending the cash for a new car, the thought of "just" buying an old platform's third iteration kind of takes away from the experience.

Drove one of these recently as I was thinking about trading my Type R in for one. Huge let down as I love Z's. Shifter sucked felt like a toy of course im comparing this to the Type R which has a fantastic shifter so Type R Takes the cake for the shifter feel. Next was the steering feel, Very numb feeling little to no feedback at all. Again Type R feels much better in this department so Type R gets the point here. Suspension and road feel. Car felt very wobbly as Highway speed 100 KPH range lots of body roll. Type R feels very planted and sure footed with very little if any body roll ( Have a set of 18's on mine but even stock id say felt better then the Z aswell) Power - Z has decent power nothing crazy id say its comparable to the R (My R has no engine mods) so id say both are equally quick. Overall I left very disappointed as I like how the Z looks but for the price I would be paying much more to get out of the R to get into the Z because of stupid mark ups. So with that said I kept my R as it is way more bang for buck and im sure id mop a Z on the track stock for stock.

Interesting to hear your comparison. I have a '19 STi, and I love it, particularly the steering, the bolt-action-like shifter, and athletic handling (particularly for such a heavy car). CTR's seem awesome too, from what I've read and watched. They're objectively better than the Subie in just about every measure, yet I've seen several reviewers state they prefer the STi's old-school analog feel. I was really excited about the Z but the reviews all seem to make complaints similar to what you've stated. It's a shame that even without insane markups, the LSD-equipped trim is so much more expensive, and even then you need to fix the suspension to make it handle properly. And at the end, you'll still have a numb-feeling electric steering rack.

@@ZakTheRipper18 My brother in law actually has a 20 STI with all the bushings upgraded and a conservative tune 300whp and all the reliability mods for it. It is a very fun car if i could choose again Id probably take the STI over the type r for fun factor. Yes the type r is good and way faster then the sti but it is a boring car. Handles well but dosent give you the analog feel like an sti does. Stock for stock type r but once you do all the bushing upgrades and a tune the sti is way more fun. Id rank it like this Sti - Most fun when modded type r - best out of the box if you dont wanna mod nissan z - decent car but will need another 5-10 grand in mods to make it fun and feel as good as the type r (id take this over sti if stock for stock tho doing 0 mods)

I owned a 300ZX in the 90's and a 370z in the 2010's. Both were MT, genuinely loved them both, had great times in them both. I would love to own the new Z but everything is in flux: - I'm okay paying $50K but people are saying you can't get them for less than $60K, I'm not okay with that. - The new NISMO Z is coming. What will that be like, and how much will it cost? - Will Nissan make an electric Z? Obviously if they do it will be a completely new platform and an awesome little roadster not unlike the upcoming Porsche EV Boxster. - If I buy a new Z I want to own it for 10 years. Will owning ICE cars make sense in 5, 10 years from now?

I know I'm biased, but I would have rather seen them hold off on a new z for a while and instead start from a clean piece of paper and try to make a super basic formula affordable sports car. I genuinely think the 400z is beautiful, but I also genuinely think there's a ton of better cars in its price point. The idea of them trying to compete with the GR86 then trying to compete in that market I think was a little bit more ripe for competition, and could have better helped Nissans falling reputation.

You'd just lazily shift through the gears and look down and be going nearly 100 mph and be like, "Whoops, didn't mean to ping triple digits". And yea, if you just going the speed limit in 6th gear you get like 35 mpg. Too bad if you wanna buy one used, they all driven into the ground. Or, they painted lime green, covered in dragon stickers, and have a terrible stainless steel exhaust sticking out the back.
