Especially with the rear seat removed, the 718 GTS is a lot more car for $91k vs $117k for the 911 T. However, I understand the driving experience of a rear engine Porsche is significantly different than a mid-engine variant.
@harryspeakup84522 жыл бұрын

@rayestefania37252 жыл бұрын
Yes, I currently own a 718 GTS 4.0 and I previously owned a 2019 Carrera T and I see no reason to purchase this car over my 718 other than it is a 911 over a Cayman. I got my 2019 T at a small discount and my dealer called recently offering me a new Carrera T allocation for $10k over MSRP. I do not see this car as the same value as the 991.2, especially not at $10k over retail. The engine in the 4.0 is a lot more special, in my opinion and the 718 GTS has all the performance parts and then some that this T has. Seems like a great car but too expensive at this point and not the value that the previous car was. The only advantage to this car is you can tune it and get the same power as a Carrera S for a lot less money.

We got the S with 7 speed manual, rear-drive only, no rear axle steer, no PASM, no PDCC, no front axle lift, no sunroof, no lane-keeping, so it's driver's car. It's very close to this current T model but with more horsepower and bigger brakes. It''s probably 250 pounds lighter than a fully loaded C4S. "It really seem like Porsche is the pinnacle of automotive engineering, isn’t it?" Is that the excuse for not having as much passion and soul - and as many charming flaws - as Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo? 🙃🙂 I kid, they are obviously very good but terribly German and Teutonic. Italian sportscars of course have a different flavour, as do Japanese sportscars as do British ones. I'm not sure it is as simple as saying one type of sportscar is "the pinnacle". The 911 is certainly the most developed flat-six rear engined sportscar but the new (rebodied Evora) Lotus Emira is also very good as is the new Ferrari 296 in a higher price bracket or the McLarens, or the GTR or NSX on the Japanese side of things...

Is it even worthwhile to compare and contrast a 911T (w/o) rear seats to a Cayman GTS (4.0). Upon first glance the only real difference is the cabin (nod to 911) & the engine (nod to Cayman?). Are the differences too small?
@jackholmes81052 жыл бұрын
The primary difference other than the cabin is the suspension. The rear suspension in the 911 is mutilink where the cayman is strut. So the 911 has more rear grip and feels better balanced imo. The cayman feels more willing to turn in but overall grip levels are lower. In car tbh they sound very similar and the 6 speed in the gts feels better than the 7 speed in the 911

I agree with others’ comments about high price, however You don’t need to pay the full 130k. Here in Europe 70-80% of these cars are leased. Porsches are holding value so well that actual market is crazy. Realistically in 3-4 years of ownership the depreciation range should be 0 to max 20k. If You buy a 70 or 100k other car you’re going to loose much more money. This the way look at it. If the ownership period is just 1-2 year then You may actually make a profit. Many guys here have enjoyed their Turbo, C2, etc, for Free because people don’t want to wait and accept to pay the list price or more for used cars. That’s crazy! That's what I'll be doing with mine. Tune and HAS kit. 379hp is quick, but not fast. Besides why not? 🤷🏾♂️ Looking fwd to delivery in the spring!

For those considering ordering a Porsche, be aware your car may be delivered complete and short an amp only to have it sit on the dealer lot for months. Porsche is delivering cars still awaiting backordered amps, and informing customers the car can’t be released without the amp. My Turbo GT arrived weeks ago, and I have been informed that it may sit on the dealer lot for more than 2 months till the amp arrives, and they will not release cars without amps. Bose and Burmeister are both backordered.

Exciting. Is Burmeister sending an amp to my dealer in portland? Lol.

Well done video. And a great explanation of why this car is amazing.. the three pedal cars are the only cars I would buy new or used.

Was never really into porches until I started doing my research, not one video I’ve seen where someone says they don’t like the car, even owner reviews prefer them over cars likes lambos

Are the brakes really that weak/fade prone? Whatever track day I do (and I'm sure you do as well), I put in DOT4 racing brake fluid. Do you think that change alone would do the trick?
@joeracer3022 жыл бұрын
Yes, will be fine with stock tires. Just drive with the stock pads until the wear out, then replace with any of the common options Ferrodo/Pagid/Endless/Porterfield/etc. Once you start putting sticky tires on the brakes will start generating even more heat, they won’t fade with good pads/fluid, but the rotors will start wearing out faster. At that point you can go to the common 350mm rotor upgrades (AP/Giro), but the best option if you’re doing a lot of track days is a BBK. There will also eventually be the factory carbon brakes offered, but those are another discussion on their suitability for heavy track use. The T is the ultimate canyon/street 911, and does fine as an occasional track toy, but honestly, if you want to do a lot of track days there are better suited and less expensive options to consider
@glennhavinoviski81282 жыл бұрын
@@skellington2000 That's why true Porsche nuts buy an older water-cooled 911 with no sunroof and a manual (and pay a premium ironically enough for not having fancy options), so they can bang it around a track. That's one reason the formerly unloved 996 models are starting to escalate in price, but they're still way cheaper than buying newer models. Long as you take care of the IMS bearing, 996s are fantastic cars for track use. And if you want cheaper, early 986 Boxsters with hard tops and 987 Caymans are common track vehicles. And all of these are easy to find parts for and upgrade.

Another great review. But Porsche doesn't show the carbon buckets option on the build page.

There is actually a thread on Rennlist saying these are in short supply, at least for the Spyder/GT4 platform

“Assuming your dealers don’t bend you over” the ones here want $15k over sticker lol. I’m keeping my 991.2 T. Dealers lost their damn minds during the pandemic.

The driving shots in this video were great makes me wish they lived somewhere with interesting roads rather than the generic farm road they normally shoot on. Still great video!!

I was offered an allocation for this and the lack of a shortened gear ratio (like what was offered on the 991 carrera T) was all I needed to know. It’s just another trim level this time.
@conman13952 жыл бұрын
Shortened great ratio does not mean touring. Shortened gear ratio is to track it. Obviously it's a trim level. What else would it be? I even think the bucket seats are something I'd rather not have.
@philly94032 жыл бұрын
Look at what made the 991 carrera T great. It was rear seat delete, carbon buckets (not available in a base carrera), the option of rws, and the unique gear ratio. “Touring” isn’t what made it popular. The reviewers heralded it as a “baby GT” car, which was probably what Porsche marketing wanted them to say. Clearly you’re more about what’s on the surface but a real enthusiast cares about the details.

Good point about brakes. I used to take a 991.1 base Carrera to the track and these tiny rotors would boil the fluid with a more aggressive pad like Pagid.

Great review and the Z09/06 comparison is dead on. The current Corvette is not a pleasing car to drive (or look at, I just see a Ferrari knock off), not in the way that the Porsche makes you feel like Iron Man, and let's you experience the road. Thanks again!!

if you think about the gr supra in manual is a basicaly a 911 t for half the price here me out they make similar power similar torque weight around the same and run the quater mile around the same time and are 2 seater ports cars sure the 911 might be slightly better on track but the margin between the 2 is not alot and for half the price i feel like the gr supra is a great alternative to this car.

You can't spec the carbon bucket seats, and have to option in the lightweighting options in Australia. Removing the carbon seat option is a deal breaker for me.
