Honestly, I think the simplicity of the interior is a decent selling point. I work at a Kia dealership and compared to my '17 Impreza, their cars feel a little too technologically advanced. It's starting to hit a point where it's not simple enough for the average consumer.

As my grandfather told me over and over, if it isn't broken, don't worry about it. The Crosstrek fits this. The rugged features and reliability fits exactly what they intended. They weren't meant to be competing against a Porsche in styling. These were meant for the weekend warriors who wanted that added bit of space with minimal features that could break and the benefit of a well known and tested safety system.

I'm with you. The only tech I want is wireless android auto and heated seats but they make aftermarket radios and heated seats covers. Other than that, I prefer as simple as possible with a manual trans because it's so much easier to fix when it breaks and I don't have to deal with mystery shorts in the wiring.

It really does shine on crummy roads. The first winter after purchasing my PHEV, we had consistent -35C temps along with really heavy snowstorms packing high winds. I had to drive long distance in all of these situations and I never had to pull to the side and never had any out of control or sketchy situations. The snow banks were all above the doors on my Trek and the snow blowing across the highways basically made them disappear at times. Normally I would avoid driving in these situations, but with my Trek I had no worries. Really solid cars in all situations.

I am very pleased with my 2023 Crosstrek Limited which I purchased November 22! It is great going through snow! I just did a trip to visit my daughter who lives 610 kilometres away and was truly impressed that I averaged 14.88 kilometres per litre (which computes to 35 miles per US gallon)! This was achieved by using cruise control at 115 kilometres per hour! I found that the car was very responsive upon acceleration in order to pass cars or trucks! I also own a Honda CR-V 2022 Touring which my wife drives! The CR-V has a 1.5 L turbo (190 HP) and I prefer the Crosstrek as I feel that it is peppier and is quieter upon acceleration! All in all I am very pleased with my first purchase of a Subaru product

Nice! I ordered my 2023 premium with the 6MT a couple weeks ago. It’s gonna be a few months, but I’m so ready. My 2012 escape is a good vehicle, but I wanted something more fuel efficient but still capable to get me to some semi remote areas for fishing and camping, and have fun rowing gears while getting there! I didn’t want the safety features anyways, I find them very annoying on my parents Outback. Edit: also wanted to add that the dealership I am getting it from is actually letting me go out the door with it for less than MSRP and I didn’t have to haggle! They just said “here is the price”. Been with my 2015 Outback Premium since new and I'm very happy but it's at 110k miles and time to go shopping. My hesitancy with the Crosstrek has always been about the mpg rating and how on paper it does worse than a larger Outback. But.... What other reasons do you prefer the Crosstrek? Is it quieter on the road? Funner drive?
@Realistick2 жыл бұрын
@@kippywylie Compared to the new Outback, the crosstrek is noisier, much smaller but firmer and reacts quicker to your steering inputs without punishing you on bad roads. I wouldn't call either fun but the crosstrek is better on twisty roads. The Outback is MUCH more luxurious though, the seats are oodles better, it's quiet, it's even more comfortable and it will cost roughly 4 maybe 5 grand more. If you're okay with a much larger car and can afford it, I'd go with the Outback. If you want something smaller and more nimble, the Crosstrek is a great compromise. Then, later I traveled to throughout the states between Pennsylvania to Michigan. This is over 7 months of driving and AirBnBing. My Crosstrek never had an issue and the seats are fine. The only issue with a Sport is the headlights. They literally are very dim under these conditions: after it rains, night time and numerous street lights (highway lights). I had a friend ride w/me to confirm and he agreed that these conditions fail the driver. Under the said conditions, you feel as if the headlights are not on and the street lights are the only thing brighten the street.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on the Crosstrek for a daily commuter. Living in snow country, my first requirement is awd. For my +22k per year commute, I want a car that's decent on gas and at a lower MSRP. I don't really care about driving performance or having all the latest and greatest electronic bells and whistles. The only reason I'm even upgrading to the premium trim, from the base trim, is the sideview mirror defrosting feature and fog lights. Also, I absolutely love a real, mechanical e brake! My only decision now is the color. I was going with white until I saw this video. While I'm not a fan of black, due to the high maintenance of keeping it looking clean, this video does make it look awfully appealing on how well it blends with all the plastic body aesthetics. I had a 21 Forester and how a 22 Outback. The Outback is only slightly heavier in the 2.5 configuration but I think the design might be a bit more aerodynamic. The Forster has a 2 gallon smaller tank than the Outback, I was only getting around 300-350 per tank in my Forester. In my outback I can easily get 450-550 depending on my driving and driving location. The mileage in my Forester was just abysmal for some reason that I could never figure out, maybe the crossbars on the top? Im a little late to ask a question but Im debating between the crosstrek or forester 2023 (both premium)! Which would you recommend? Im a young adult looking to purchase his first car. I plan on mostly using my car for daily commutes (moving to a new state and unsure how long the commute is, maybe 20 min). But I am an outdoorsy person who will try to go snowboarding / camping/ hiking as often as I can. Thats why I am looking at subarus. That said, the only "big" differences I see are, price difference of ~$2-3k, much smaller cargo space for crosstrek, better view on forester, the 'smoother' acceleration on the forester at low gear, and in my opinion the crosstrek has a better exterior look, has a better sportier look. With such a small price difference, in terms of spec, forester wins but given that I am a young adult, any reduction is price is very appreciative. Also not sure how small the cargo space on the crosstrek is. I dont have anything planned but I can go on trips solo or with friends. Which would you recommend and any additional insights you can provide? Ive also looked at Rav4, CRV, etc, but the crv is too pricey, and the rav4 feels too cheap at the base model. Subaru seems the best bang for buck at the moment.

At 2500 miles he had the brake fluid changed and at 1300 miles he had new tires put on. He probably has dementia or another health problem. At any case I bought it for $3K less than KBB. A BIG shout Out To Carter Subaru in Shoreline, WA. They’re the best dealership I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Our local Subaru dealership , Cascade Subaru in Wenatchee, WA treated us like dirt. We’ve tried twice now to buy a Subie from them but their arrogance cost them our business.

@@millerliteguru In 2021 I bought my wife a 2019 Outback (with only 5,600 miles) for her 50th birthday. It’s the 2.5L naturally aspirated 4cyl with a mere 175hp. Yes it is Gutless but it’s her commuter car and our road car. Last December (2022) I bought a certified Subaru Forester Touring. I replaced my 11 RAV4 4WD Limited. There was nothing wrong with my Rav but I wanted a vehicle with superior traction on all road conditions. My 2019 Forester had only 4,700 miles on it when I bought it. It had over 100K miles Less than my RAV4. My dad is wheelchair bound and I always had to fold the rear seat to get his wheelchair in the rear of my RAV4. I can keep the seats up in my Forester while transporting my dad. He enjoys the heated, reclining rear seats in my Forester as well. The Ascent is too big for our needs and in all honesty I don’t care for the Soltera EV. It’s actually harder for entry and exit. The visibility isn’t as good as my Forester by a long shot. We thought about buying my wife an XT, but again, her Outback is a commuter car so we were looking at the mpg over power. The reason why Subaru dropped the XT Forester is bc only 5% of Forester owners bought the XT. The seats on both our Subie’s are fantastic. They’re super comfortable and supportive. We live in north central WA state up in the mountains, where we get 5-6 feet of snow every winter. It’s a 3 hour drive to either Seattle or Spokane. I’ve driven to both in my Forester. If I don’t set my cruise, I’ll be going 80-85mph and not even know it. My wife’s Outback is the same way. If you want the extra power, I would recommend the Outback XT in a heartbeat. My wife loves her limited with Ivory leather interior. If Subaru would have offered the Forester Limited with Ivory interior, I would have bought one. I do LOVE the Saddle Brown leather interior in my Forester. We’re simply sick and tired of Gloomy Grey or Boring Black interior colors from 1990 and refuse to buy another vehicle with those 33 year old interior colors. Enjoy your day !

I owned a '21 Crosstrek for 4 months. It was a Premium with the 2.0L engine. That engine seemed way too lethargic. I got the car based on all the good things I heard about it. I will say it has its great points. The AWD was excellent, the car had excellent build quality, and it had a great ride. However, aside from the lack of power, the Eyesight system was annyoing, the CVT acted too much like a conventional automatic, and the headlights weren't bright enough. In the end, I was unable to fall in love with it. It might have been different with a Sport or Limited, but those were out of my price range. Luckily, when I traded it, I got top dollar since it was low miles and Subaru was still having problems getting inventory. I paid sticker for the car (no market adjustment, thank goodness) and got $173 less than sticker on trade. I got back into a Buick Encore GX and am happy with it.

While I like the crosstrek I won't get another. Mines a '15 and just hitting 50,000 mi. Its great on gas and since I'm short its easy to drivr. BUT there's been too many tech issues and I'm on my 3rd battery. Also, while the faux leather looks nice and is comfy, it's thin and tears easily.

Thank you for your review. I own an 2021 Impreza sport hatchback with a manual transmission. Although I love the vehicle, I will not buy another SUBARU until they offer an 2.5L in manual.......🏹🤠👍

Reviewer is a bit verbose but good and informative review overall. Very insightful point about the base and premium models coming with a standard transmission so will need to pay $1350 extra for a CVT.

I wonder if I could order an 2.5L engine for the new 2024 Impreza, and put it in my 2021 manual Impreza 🤔.....🏹🤠👍

The headunit and Android Auto / Car Play will be cantankerous within a year, no matter which screen you have. It does things that I can't comprehend. Its baffling, truly. No logic to its misbehaviors. Still, best or second best car I've owned.

Driving the car just feels like you're constantly bouncing around, to the point it makes me feel sick. The outback and legacy have much smoother and more comfortable rides. It's too bad, because a compact, fuel-efficient, off-road capable hatchback would otherwise be an amazing vehicle.

What makes the interior look dated is the Depressing Grey and Boring Black which looked great in 1990, but looks cheap and very dated, 33 years later.

Imagine buying a car with incandescent reflector headlights in 2023. For the same price as a Crosstrek (well $30.7K), I picked up a '23 Rogue S with more power (especially mid-range torque), higher fuel economy (37mpg), more size, nicer cabin materials and general specs with air for the rear passengers for example, comfier seats, that has full LED headlights and taillights, and can tow the same 1500lbs, and has tons of safety tech. I'm struggling to think of what a Crosstrek could offer me that the Rogue S can't do better when it comes to my regular commuting, running errands, etc. I'm sure the 2024 Crosstrek will be a game changer for Subaru, but if you need a vehicle now, drive a Rogue S with the new variable compression turbo engine first!

@M CVT wise, the Crosstrek is still using the same transmission from 2013, it hasn't been updated yet and its ratios are rather poor. The CVT-X in the Nissan however is brand new for 2022, totally new design, dual pumps and new belt design so should prove more reliable and the ratios are WAY wider. Powertrain wise, the Crosstrek can't hold a candle. For AWD, the Crosstrek is full time AWD whereas the Nissan is AWD on demand which I prefer. For example, the Nissan can completely declutch the rear wheels which is much more efficient for highway cruising, giving it 37mpg highway rating. The Rogue is slightly larger than the Forester, which only gets 33mpg highway despite the Rogue making 225ftlbs of torque compared to the Forester's 176ftlbs.

@Cam a CVT is not an engine, its a transmission, the crosstrek also uses a CVT.

I almost purchased Subaru XV (/ Crosstrek) - now I am happy that I did not - I purchased VW ID car instead and very happy about it. Subaru is losing it, they should build EV of their own and forget the Toyota BS.
@Realistick2 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that they need to build some more EVs or just hybrids here soon but their growth in sales, improvement in reliability and awesome handling tell me they are definitely not losing it, just falling behind on electrification.
