just an FYI, Ford still offers the fold down step, They are installed under the forward bed side step. Ultimately giving you 2 steps side by side, one stationary and one that folds down .

Is that rear bumper step really lower than the bedside step?

They are about the same. It depends on the ground below. During filming the rear step didn't seem as much of a stretch as the front step. Both steps are pretty high though, over 2 feet off the ground. Side steps are normally about a foot and a half on these Super Dutys.
