Great video, excellent overview of the gas & hybrid systems. My family has been driving Camrys for about 30 years and IMO Toyota has found the golden mean for producing a competent, reliable, handsome and safe car that can even be fun and somewhat luxurious. You have sold me on them again, Tyler, making me question why I would buy an SUV. Cheers~

Our 2023 Camry XLE Hybrid started at 44mpg, dropped to 38mp by 4k miles, and is now back up to 41mpg at 9k miles. We are in southern WA state and it has been cold for months. We use both seat heaters and occasionally the steering wheel heater. By 5k miles it had a cold start shake that goes away after like 30 seconds. At 8k it started to feel like it might be occasionally misfiring. Gonna have the dealer look at it when time permits. Dealer is over an hour drive each way and we are a one car family.

Great review. I find one sits too low in sedans today. Actually since the current Prius model came out several years ago, I found that the seating has been lowered in cars. I like the Camry/Accord/Corolla Hybrids and the Civic but when I sat in them, I felt like I was sitting on the floor (compared to the 2006 Acura TSX we had). As a result, we went with the Venza Hybrid to sit higher. We're getting 40 mpg which is great but it's not 52 mpg like the base Camry Hybrid.

Excellent review, because you touch on the disadvantages of the Hybrid System, at 13:28 The real question is: Are you going to keep the hybrid for 12 - 15 years, then accept a dismal trade in value? At 13:28, you talk about the downside of the additional ($2,500) price of a Hybrid vs a standard car.

I think for most people, they wont keep the car nearly long enough to run into those issues, many wont even keep it long enough for the car to even save them money over the standard camry, however I think the power and experience is what makes it worth it!

My car is 18 years old and for the last 6 years I've been waiting for a hybrid sedan with an LCD placed low (like they used to be when smaller). But after waiting 6 years, I see the trend for distracting colorful bright high placed LCD with touch surface replacing analog controls are here to stay... until NHTSA sees the uptick in accidence from the display. At least it's nice the hear this does have analog controls for the common features.

I own a '23 SE Hybrid. There are highs and lows: Highs: Ride quality is excellent and the drivetrain is mature. You can tell all the bugs have been worked out and the vehicle is comfortable and confidence inspiring to drive. Good looks on the exterior with the SE. Lows: 1. Your MPG depends on so many variables: temperature/climate, driving style, speed you drive on the highway. Def don't drive over 70 mph if you want decent mpg..but that applies to pretty much all ICE cars. The electric motors will be used more when you regenerate energy in stop/go driving and NOT when you're cruising on the highway.. 2. The seats on the SE are freaking embarrassing. Absolutely the ugliest seats ever created in an automobile. I bought seat covers because I couldn't stand to look at the candy-striped nonsense. Sigh. 3. The speedo/dash cluster is dollar-store. I can't believe Toyota actually designed and produced it. The center dash touch-screen would have felt ancient with the graphics quality, etc. back in 2005. THANK GOD you can just hook up your phone and look at your Apple CarPlay and not the embarrassing Fisher-Price quality Toyota gave you with your $33+k car. 4. Did I mention the seats make you want to vomit every time you get in the vehicle? Oh, and they're also cheaply cushioned and uncomfortable as Hell. 5. The "carpet" on these cars now is nothing more than cheap, flimsy grey felt. Like grade school art class felt that kids make crafts with. I can't believe auto manufacturers are ramming it up our backsides with such horrifying cost-cutting and making us feel fortunate to be able to get our hands on a car and praise Jesus for only paying MSRP. The Hybrid is clearly holding value significantly better than its gas counterpart. I could probably sell the car for more than I paid for it right now, with 7k miles on it. You could not say that for a regular gas camry. SO, all in all, you deal with the negatives and keep telling yourself "i'm saving on gas and at least I'm not getting murdered on depreciation like I used to for the past 25 years of car ownership". I am definitely selling this vehicle in the next 6 months as the next-gen Camry will be out later in '23 and probably make this generation look old and dated. However, I'm not sure I'll buy a Toyota again if they continue with this level of cheap interior materials and outrageous cost-cutting.

We have a 2020 Camry LE Hybrid purchased new in July 2020. That was before the chip shortage, when the lots were packed with cars, but the showrooms were empty of customers. Car has just under 14,000 miles on it now. Only options are floor mats and the rear bumper protective applique. We leave it in ECO mode, but have found it is very sensitive to temperature. Warm day.......say 80 degrees or warmer....I have gotten as high as 56 mpg on the freeway. Cooler day, say 60 degrees and colder, it drops to about 48 mpg. This is my first Toyota, although I had Toyotas as company cars in the 1970's.....back when they had cardboard door panels, the quality of materials has certainly improved. Things I don't like, the car is way too low. You can't park up against a cement parking stop in a shopping center parking lot because the front of the car scrapes on it. Not a fan of the front seats on long trip. No support for your legs, and so far, haven't found an adjustment with the power seat to fix that. I'm talking about trips of 400 miles. We have taken to putting a throw pillow on the seat. I'm 6' 2". The front doors open wider than any other car I have ever owned, and even with my long arms, it is a LONG reach to close the door if it is open all the way. Trunk capacity is 3 cubic feet smaller than the Taurus it replaced, and I do notice that. Also, the remote controls on the steering wheel are on the opposite side from any other car I have owned. Radio volume is on the left, cruise control on the right instead of the radio on the right and cruise control on the left. That being said I would buy it again, just a few observations. I'm glad we have a 2020, not sure I like how the touch screen is now sticking up instead of being intergrated into the dash.

What would be estimate of combined torque equivalent?
@Realistick
@Realistick Жыл бұрын
That’s a really difficult question for me to answer as torque in this output doesn’t mean very much. The engine peaks at 176 (or maybe it’s 163 lb-ft, It’s been a little since I’ve looked at the specs for the camry hybrid). Torque is a measure of twisting force but power is the total work able to be done (it factors in rpm and torque into the equation). You typically want more torque because that means more power at lower rpms, however this has electric assistance to make up down low for the engine’s lack of power in low rpms. In short, it doesn’t feel like a normal car but the thrust feels like it would be around the 200-220 mark at low (2500) rpms.

LE Hybrid with the superior fuel mileage, lower cost, and greater simplicity, or an XLE or XSE Hybrid with better looks and more amenities, but a louder, stiffer ride, especially with the XSE's 19" wheels? I have to admit, I wish Toyota gave the LE Hybrid alloy 16's. Steelies with hubcaps just look too poverty-spec (savagegeese*). There is no reason that 16" alloys of the same width as the steelies would hurt fuel mileage. Case in point: the Accord Hybrid EX-L's 17" alloy, vs their louder, less efficient 19's on the Hybrid Sport and Hybrid Touring.

A bit ridiculous that this Sedan is being compared with SUV. I hate SUVs because they lean too much when taking a curve. The reason why I like Sedans and seating low.

Hybrid batteries are high-maintenance and can be prone to failure. I wouldn’t touch a hybrid car.

There’s not really any maintenance outside probably needing to replace it in 12 to 15 years. Go in expecting that and you’ll be fine.

That's old school mentality, especially with Toyota's. Pretty maintenance free and designed to last a looooooongggg time (pretty much your lifetime)

@@bobbygargari1252 Hybrid batteries don’t like heat, which is why they have fans, with filters, which must be cleaned often. Owners are advised to use AC during the summer to cool the batteries. And, leaving the car parked anywhere on a hot day, without the benefit of the fan and AC, will deplete the battery over time.
