Driving wise this is much more fun than most 1.0l-1.2l turbos, revs cleanly to the limiter, instant response, quick going through short gears - very likeable. however you also have to drive it like that to get it going instead of relying on some torque in the middle revs. always cons and pros. shame they didnt make it a 2 liter like mazda, than it would have much better pickup down low.

There is actually a beautiful 2.0 gasoline engine available with around 170 hp… But it is unfortunately not offered in the European market. It still exists in the North American and Australian markets, as far as I know.

As a previous E12 SW owner, 1.4 vvti 97hp, I must say that this one feels slower. 3cyls definitely can use a turbo in my opinion,.. Nice video as always :)

This video was exactly what i was looking for. I compared hybrid 140 to this 125 petrol. Hybrid with 3 out of 8 batteries has (practically empty bcs it doesnt go below that afaik) acceleration after 140km/h same as this car after 170km/h. Meaning hybrid, when battery is practically empty,, accelerates with its petrol engine only which is 98hp

193 on the speedometer, so around 180 true speed. Pretty good, better than electronic limit for Hybrid 180-185. Better fuel economy for cruising than Hybrid.

Almost 200 Km/h for this little engine is super overstress. I understand that this video is made for fun but I can bet that if one is driving such engine at max rpm all the time - this car would not last much because the stress he puts on the engine.

​@@redbull4fly797Only when serviced @ Toyota Dealerships. I wouldn't be worried at all reg high engine rpms, as long as it's not sitting at the redline for extended periods, I'd be more concerned about the transmission they have in it.

@@radostinnikolov3711 New yotas come with CVT. They are really boring to drive and if they go sideways, it's a full replacement. No repairs, and it's not cheap. I wish they had a traditional tranny in them.

What is the benefit of having 3 cylinders instead of 4 in a 1.5L engine? I've only seen 3 cylinders up to 1.2L on everyday cars.

I don’t have a direct answer to your question; but I believe that it has to do something with designing a family of engines from the brands’ perspective. I have a feeling that this 3-cyl. 1.5 lt. gasoline engine might be closely related to the 4-cyl. 2.0 lt. gasoline engine (just like the relationship between VW’s 1.4 TDI - 1.9 TDI engines).

I am wondering why an engine with 1.5 VVT with 125 PS goes only 190 km/h while an old Opel Vectra from the 90's with 1.6 engine and 75 PS goes 190 km/h.

Aerodynamics. A 90s Vectra is far narrower and a little shorter than a modern Corolla is.

It’s most likely because of a speed limiter. In fact, even the technical data sheet specifically states 190 km/s as Vmax, both for the manual and the CVT. Still, I don’t really know why they needed a limiter. With this engine and transmission ratios, it looks like it could have hit ~210 km/s in 5th gear on a good day😄

I just sold my Toyota some days ago. Couldn't stand this engine. It's weak and very noisy, and the whole car rattles on going uphill. Plus, there are other problems with this car. When you let it stand unused for a week, the battery dies and you cannot even open the car. What a garbage car.
