Morizo was Akio Toyoda's racing pseudonym from his young adulthood, before his succession to the family throne was guaranteed. He used a pseudonym because he wasn't supposed to be racing, and he had to hide what he was doing from his family and everyone at the company who still outranked him. That's how the legend goes anyway.

It's really not. Of course it has a manual transmission, but that's all there is to its "manual" driving experience. There is ESC and ABS (of course, you literally can't sell a car without these anymore), it has traction control, launch control, electronically controlled differentials with torque vectoring, electronic variable power steering, automatic throttle blip on downshift and more stuff. It's a technologically advanced sports car that still features a manual transmission and I love that.

Wait, isn't the "no back seats" thing there so you can also carry another spare 4 wheels with you? But I don't think the Corolla is wide enough for that. Here in Europe, the limited production Renault Megane RS Trophy-R had the same "no back seat" but you could fit 4 wheels with tyres there for your track day! In fact you could option it out with 4 carbon wheels and they put them in that space, like a show peice!
@sptauto
@sptauto 2 жыл бұрын
For me, it's the four doors that ruin the styling of the GR Corolla. If they cut out the back doors, Toyota could shorten the wheelbase another foot at least. That'd also give Toyota more room to fit their aggressive fender bulge, otherwise carrying onto the rear doors. The convenience factor of having back seats is notable, but less-so in a performance vehicle. At least, to me. A two door hatch with foldable bench seats in the rear would've been sufficient. Although, I'm sure they have some sort of poll capable of countering that argument. Hence why the GR Yaris exists, and this is just an uglier sibling of that.

can't wait to see how (over)priced it will be. It's indeed a very cool car but the people who can buy it are probably too old to want it. If Toyota (and any other company with similar cars) really want to sell those car, they should release a base version with a stripped interior, no bells and whistles and the engine + drivetrain. yeah, I always found it funny how the "stripped down" versions were more expensive than the base. I remember when doug reviewed one of the many lightweight Porsches and it still had A/C.....remove the carpeting, door handles, back seats to save weight but still leave in the massive heavy a/c compressor and cooling lines etc. Back in the day, the performance versions of pony cars were just that...ALL engine and nothing else.....Chrysler made a strip ready barracuda that didn't even have an interior. Just one seat and a roll bar. No interior door panels, no headliner, nuttin. I don't even think it had a heater core to be honest.

Yay! Let's celebrate a rarer version of rare version of a rare car no one will be able to purchase at a reasonable price. Let's celebrate being effed up by dealers while they get rich exploiting enthusiasts. If Toyota carred about their customers getting any of the GR cars they would produce them in reasonable numbers. This is a classic "make the dealers happy" move (chip shortage has nothing to do with it).
