I personally love the Audi A4 Allroad, but a major pet peeve I have that car is that they’ve angled the rear hatch so sharply you really aren’t gaining that much more useable cargo area over its sedan counterpart. One could argue it gives the Allroad a bit more of a sporty vibe, but this Volvo and its V90 XC big brother is proof you can provide all the utility of a wagon body style while STILL providing a very good looking product.

Also Allroad rear seats don't fold flat, further consuming rear cargo space.

I love the V60. I like the elegant simplicity, and I love wagons. It was on my wishlist, but the lack of a dealership and maintenance/repair nearby pushed it low down the list.

Great family review and assessments. Evie is an astute reviewer with a keen eye for details. I agree that Volvos are like the Flying Eyes Sunglasses of vehicles in that they're well made and for those who appreciate luxury and quality details without the need to impress anyone. If you know, you know. My Volvo XC90 is the perfect car for me. The seats and pilot assist are the gifts that keep on giving. Take care and feel better, Micah! ✋️ ✋️ ✋️

Great review! I love your reviews since you bring Evie and daughter to offer more holistic feedback, as opposed to the cut-and-dry "Man does car review." I'm a long-time Volvo-phile (2013 XC60 & 2020 XC90 (latter being my husband's) and many more prior to that. There was a huge uproar in 2021 when Volvo got rid of Carplay and moved entirely to Android Auto. Thankfully, they came to their senses and brought back CP. Next car will definitely be a Volvo, but waver between the XC60 and the V60 CC. Re. rear headrests - I ALWAYS have to put them down. I'm obsessive about having full view of the rear window! Not specifically called out in the video, but Volvo SUVs/wagons also have a 100% fully flat cargo space when the rear seats are placed down. (Other SUV/wagons allow the seats fold flat, but there's a slight angle where the seats are tilted forward. Also, the FRONT passenger seat folds flat, which is not called out in many reviews. This is a HUGE bonus especially when hauling long objects from Home Depot. In my case, I frequently go on kitesurfing excursions for weeks, so I fold the rear and front passenger seats flat to pack in all of my gear without having to use a rooftop cargo carrier.

I've always loved Volvo's design languages, over the course of my life. Even the "turbo bricks" were styled in a way that provided Volvo style continuity, but always seems fresh for the time. I think this feels the same. It looks very much like a Volvo, but it's fresh and of our time.

Love the wagon. I've had a 2016 V60 Polestar since almost new (dealer car I got with 8000km). Love the wagon and the seats. Comfortable car. I wouldn't get one of the newer Volvo because I'm one of those people who hates giant touch screens that have replaced buttons and I'm not a fan of the smaller displacement engines. Drove the newer 2 liter model and it just didn't feel as good while trying to have "fun" while driving. But I'm also guessing that "fun" while driving was deemed not important when Volvo took the polestar performance cars and spun that into a completely new electric division. Too bad they can't seem to figure out how to make the T8 versions of their newer cars actually feel fun to drive. Lots of actual power but it feels like they put a giant rubber band in the transmission.....or a turbo from the late 80's.

That issue with the faux wood feels like an indicator to consider. I really like Volvo styling and appreciate they are one of the few bringing wagons to NA but there is just something about the brand that holds me back. If subaru made cars that looked like this- now that would be a home run. Or see the Volkswagen arteon shooting break

Previously owned an '18 V60CC. Awesome swiss army knife of a car and a fantastic daily driver. Ridiculously comfortable seats. Only real complaint was the grumbly turbo 4 and so-so fuel mileage. The newer gens address the refinement to an extent, and the interior is leaps and bounds better. Despite them maybe not equaling the Germans in overall refinement or technology, they counteract it with a welcomed lack of gimmickry without abandoning unique touches and honest practicality. An esoteric choice for sure, but one that wont make you cringe in a few years.
@benjaminsmith2287

Great review Micah and family. I love the exterior design, like the interior space but over the last few years Volvo's quality/reliability have taken a hit and several of their vehicles are near the bottom of quality lists. That is a concern as parts for Volvo's are expensive. Have a co-worker who has an XC90 and one of his rear sensors went out and it was over $500 for the part alone.

I learned how to drive on a 1976 Volvo 240. I drove the crap out of that car through HS. I wish today's Volvo's offered a little more value for dollar, or were a little more reliable or were a little more roomy (bring back the BRICKS!) or all of the above ideally. Volvo people are above all, practical, independent thinkers and if you think about a modern Volvo compared to others, even just a little bit...they ultimately don't make too much sense. Obviously for some (but not many) the styling and "emotion factor" win out.

oh gawd, i broke that Crystal gear knob right off 1:31 the first day i drove a Volvo [S90] recently... I went from Reverse and whacked it into Drive a bit too briskly.. the Crystal knob flew upward and over into the passenger side footwell in classic projectile imagery! I had 30 seconds of panic right after as the S90 was in the middle of a pathway with a broken off shifter- so i decided to jam the knob back into its tiny shaft. The shaft was as flimsy and thin as your kid's juice straw! Yeah quite the story to tell for the dealership- wasn't about to grab a jobber part from autozone on this one ;p the days leading up to dealer visit, we had forcefully drilled into the neck of the plastic shifter assembly a 3 inch screw

Since you asked what kind of people drive Volvo’s,? Back in the late 1960’s and early 70’s Volvo had a TV commercial where they had a helmeted professional drive roll out sideways down a hill about 50 feet on a two to one slope, it landed on all four wheels and they would drive away in a Volvo station wagon that was still running and drivable. So people that bought Volvo’s in the 70’s and 80’s were complete A holes and were involved in a lot more accidents were the Volvo drivers were at fault because they didn’t feel that they couldn’t get hurt and that their Volvo’s would still be operational afterwards. Volvo drivers from the 1970’s to 2000’s were involved in a majority of car versus pedestrian, bicycles and motorcycles. So in those days Volvo drivers thought that they were less likely to get injured themselves and didn’t care to be careful about their driving. You can look up those stats. Thanks again

@@edhcb9359 Yeah, well, how many know that Tesla is only in existence now thanks to China and that they're now China's hostage? That China managed to use Tesla to get a Chinese car to be one of the top selling cars in Germany, that almost every single Tesla sold in Europe is made in China, in a factory the Chinese Communist Party built, with a supply chain set up by the CCP, using batteries that have nothing to do with Tesla but are instead developed and made by a Chinese company (and the Chinese own the patents) simply bought in by Chinese 'Tesla'? Tesla only has numbers which let them keep their nose barely above the water and stay alive thanks to how beneficially CCP has priced all the stuff coming into their Chinese factory from the Chinese supply chain. We have already seen CCP react, giving Elon/Tesla a warning when they haven't been obedient enough when there "suddenly was a social media storm against Tesla" or "there was a sudden drop in demand for Teslas in China. Really that was all CCP's doing. If Tesla's sales don't remain strong in China, if they can't produce cars at high enough volume to keep the company's cash flow good enough the whole company goes under. Without the China-factory Tesla won't last 2 months...or ok, now after China's help for some time letting them gather up some money in the bank they might make it 5 months. To be fair, most European and US car companies are also at least partly controlled by China as they are to a lesser extent reliant on CCP to help things continue to go smoothly for them in China, and allows Chinese companies to sell them EV tech at a good price. Not to mention since a large percentage of all of the car parts in the cars they produce globally come from China they need that flow to continue uninterrupted too. If CCP wants they can basically end a company's progress in China and that would be a massive blow to their whole business and overall profitability. CCP could also end the sweet, cheap deals of using Chinese EV tech causing havoc for the company and their whole future. Tesla is just the most strung up, as they will basically immediately go bankrupt if CCP wants, the others can still survive for years as they're not as dependent.
