In the US, I believe a lot of motorists suffer from a condition called anti-stationwagonism. Most American drivers just don’t buy them, which is a shame, but here in Europe, they have had a long enduring love affair with what many people in the industry agree are practical, stylish vehicles.

The station wagons that are left are very expensive. Domestic SUV’s usually have better ground clearance and more storage for less money.

@@rambocambo75 I think Toyota should launch a rugged Corolla Touring Sports in your market. The trunk area is pretty much the same as a Toyota RAV4. Offering it with 1.8 hybrid, 2.0 gas or 2.0 hybrid (FWD or AWD).

@@rambocambo75 Well it's sort of a "Chicken or the Egg" situation. Apart from the outback, the remaining wagon options are expensive European brands because people buy enough wagons and hatchbacks in Europe that it's no trouble to still offer them here. Especially when the margins are so high. The affordable options stopped selling here, so no point in offering them. American brands don't really even make cars anymore, and when they were they just couldn't compete in quality or reliability. There are wagon versions of the WRX (Levorg), Mazda6, Corolla (not shortened like the Corolla HB) and others around the world, where they still sell fine.

We have a 2022. We love it. There is a dynamic mode which I guess would translate to "sport" mode. It really does feel like a solid vehicle so far (17000mi) since being purchased literally at the end of 2021. Only issues we've had are the headlight and fog lights developing condensation inside. Both replaced by the dealer under warranty. No issues after being replaced.

Was torn between the V60 and V90 CC. Went with a used V90 for a little extra space and love it. Wagons are very practical and would be a great option for the large majority of people who never actually take their SUVs off road. Also, the ground clearance on these is similar or better than a lot of crossovers. I like that I own a vehicle that is unique and rarely seen on the road.
@takiman1

Thats what we Swedes want. An AWD wagon with around 200bhp. However diesels are more common, but that’s changing towards hybrids. If you compare a crossover with a wagon, the boot space is usually bigger with the wagon.

I was wondering why people choose crossovers over wagons, then I saw the price of the few wagons we have left. I don't think it's fair to say that Americans kill the wagon anymore, especially when in many cases I can get a full size SUV for the same price as a wagon.

The S-word Outback is a wagon, sells well and is cheap enough. The only reason the rest of the remaining options are from expensive brands is because no one was buying them when they were offered. The European brands sell enough in Europe to justify still producing and offering (some of) them here.

i will forever argue that the outback is not a wagon, and has not been since like pre 2008. I hate that it still gets brought up in wagon talks. by most any metric, the outback is a SUV. by interior volume, the outback crushes just about every other wagon out there. the prime advantage of wagons you mention at 4:16? accessible roof storage? the outback's as tall as a RAV4, it doesn't have that. No one who buys an outback totday, had to have a wagon. based off physical dimensions, you cannot objectively tell me that someone in an outback, couldn't have gotten by with a rav4, or a cx-50, or a CRV.

The V60 is actually designed for family use, with kids in mind for the back seat. That being said: it fits normal people fine. I did order a V60 (not in cross country) since it is big enough and the hybrid is better for fiscal reasons. Volvo actually prefers to sell SUV’s rather than estates. Waiting time for an SUV (XC60) is half compared to that of a V60.

For wagon lovers on more of a budget than a new Volvo (more like $30-40k), placing priorities on reliability, comfort, and costs to own/maintain, is a new Subaru Outback/Mini Clubman smarter than a used luxury brand like a V60/A4 all road/or other German equivalent? I have seen used luxury brands in that price range anywhere from 40,000-70,000 miles (2017-2020ish)depending on year and trim of said wagon and have trepidation when comparing it to a new Outback. Or is there a good year to look into for those luxury brands that may be worth those few extra miles? Fantastic review as always!

The price for the "upgraded wheels and tires" is crazy. I say upgraded because every V60 does come with 4 wheels and 4 tires as part of the msrp. So to pay an additional $800 per corner on top of the standard wheel and tire price then you are essentially saying these upgraded wheels and tires are worth $1,200 at each corner as part of the total production price as it sits. Crazy. I assumed a standard wheel and tire would cost about $400 each.

Nathan -- Grab that wagon and some relatively similar SUV with a bit of ground clearance. Now get Roman, Tommy, Andre, and yourself to "go shopping" or do some kind of trip where you guys get in and out of both vehicles a few times. I know that "enthusiasts" just can't understand the appeal of the whole SUV segment, but along with the sheer amount of room for cargo, the simple fact is that large people, and older people, simply can get in and out of the larger, taller vehicles much better than they can with "cars" and "wagons." Seriously, please do a video where you take four big guys out in the two alternatives, and see how it goes. I DARE YOU! 😛
