I loved your comment 20:11 "so we can maybe chase him... but... I dont have the APM, so we're gonna pull back"---- You are so aware of your situation, what you can and cant do in any given moment. Most people dont consider their APM as a resource but it really is. Sometimes I need to pull back because I dont have the APM, thanks for the lesson

yeah try to think of it as - if you haven't macro'd for a whole minute - that has to be pretty much the highest priority, pull out of any other micro situations, get a full macro cycle done, THEN go back to chasing down their army, committing to an attack or whatever else you wanna go for

I think the biggest takeaway I have from this series is this is where people actually start playing starcraft. Like it's not just trick A, B, or C then either it worked or it didn't, and GG. This is where people are actually doing stuff, being able to take a hit, hitting you back, reforming the army, and, in general, one side isn't just being steamrolled (ok that last part may not be true lol)

Hello Pig ! Let me say thank you for the videos you've been doing, because it helps me as an ex-master zerg player (been master since WoL in fact). I took a 2 year hiatus because this game drove me mad when I couldn't get to GM. Now I'm Diamond 2 simply because I can't macro the eff out of me. I've noticed that there's a big difference between what you're doing and what I'm doing : you are focusing a lot into your macro part while I'm mostly microing and tunnel visionning my units. As a result, I always end up all my games (almost) with 3k minerals no matter how much hatcheries I'm putting down. That's why I liked when you said "inject inject inject" because it tells me that I should stop focusing too much on my units and macro behind. But I'm still having a lot of troubles and it's even worse when there's some harass going on (reaper, hellions, drops, liberators, hell even drop mines). When the harass is taking place, all my attention is focusing on that harass and nothing else, and I just can't get my mind to do something like macro behind. It's like there's a huge OCD and my brain stops working until I can get rid of it. How do you usually respond to that effectively ? This is something that's been on my mind a lot when I tried to get to GM, and there was something that helped me a lot which was an old thing of Brood War, but it was kind of a third party software like apm live except it showed you a message to macro whenever you were above a certain minerals count threshold. Sadly it doesn't work in sc2 and I don't really want some 3rd party software to ban my account... :/ How do you usually think about macroing when you know there are some units that will be doing stupid thing if you don't pay attention to them ? ie queen chasing phoenix / oracles / VR out of the spore's range, lings/bane going outside the "comfort" zone and get killed by tanks / mines / whatever, 3 drones into 1 patch of mineral while there's another patch of mineral with only 1 drone in it, etc etc... Having too much OCDs don't help at all for sc2 as I can see now... :D

Think of it as a shopping list, but you change the priorities. 1. send queens to defend oracle 2. run drones away 3. send drones back to mining But then maybe you do step 1 and 2, and it's not time to send the drones back because it's not safe. But you realise your queens are chasing the oracle and you don't think it can get damage elsewhere, so you decide you have about 5 seconds of downtime. Perfect time to do a macro cycle. You go do the macro cycle fully, then come back and pick up your shopping list from step 3. ^that's pretty advanced. On a more basic level (something most diamonds still lack) is the HABIT of always doing a macro cycle after any distraction. Any time you get harassed and it distracts you, always do a macro cycle as soon as you're done with the minimum amount of micro. Any time you go do some harassment yourself, as soon as you jump home, do a macro cycle. If you stick to clean, organised macro cycles and always do them before or after other distractions, you'll hit them often enough that your macro will be pretty decent no matter what gl mate!

So you mention how the backstab group can be quite big, as long as you can defend their actual push. I notice some people putting bunkers with one unit in or cannons etc. How exactly would someone deal with that? I often find myself unable to actually do the backstab over and over, as well as things like PFs. Even if their army isnt there it's so hard to get units in. Is it then time to go to the extreme like lurker nydus to get damage done to enemies that have armies I cant straight off engage?

a bunker or a cannon dies to a few banelings, so just go bigger on your backstab. If they have 70% of their army at home on the other hand, bring the backstab back and flank their main army since it must be very small compared to your whole army smashing it right now. So you can take a very good fight. There's a fluid back and forth using your mobility against the LESS MOBILE opponent to take the fights where you have more stuff, and they have less stuff

Mass ling-bane with a giant economy is one of the easier ways to beat skytoss. You just want to supercharge your economy and roll waves of ling-bane trying to smash their economy and basetrade. Eventually swapping into mass corruptor can work if they aren't too heavy on voidrays, but best to just win the basetrade with mass ground

He was super committed and lost his whole army, so I had a big standing force and could drone my 4 bases back up freely for the next minute, whereas he'd only just be starting a 3rd, his main half mined out and his income dropping. It was a pretty bad position but you're right that he could have tried to play it out

Another way to see how behind we are is to check the supply count : 36 vs 99. Even if that's an arbitrary number, it's kinda hard to come back from this. Let's imagine what unit count it is from 36 supply : if it's 12 probes then that leaves 24 supply worth of units. Aka not much. On the other hand if it were to be only units, then it'd have taken ages to build the economy up. So... yeah. He was in deep trouble either way, if not dead.
