Chevy nailed it on this truck, are they offering fleet deals? For a small contracting business this could be a winner on gas savings, maintenance, etc. However upfront costs are an issue. Would be helpful if Chevy put together a cost comparison for business owners to show maintenance savings, gas savings, brake savings, and more importantly productivity savings (truck sitting in the dealer garage for a 1/2 day or day like an ICE). Putting together that cost benefit model would be extremely helpful for small business owners with a small fleet of trucks

Great video, incredible monster of a vehicle. So crazy that it's so big, so heavy, but so powerful.

Everyone talks about the weight like it’s super crazy. Now she’s definitely a heavy girl but nothing crazy. I had a 2500 Ram Cummins that came is a 8000 pounds. A that didn’t have regen. The engine brake falls woefully short of EV regen.
@livewirereview
@livewirereview 2 ай бұрын
Yup my Dad's F250 Diesel is 8000lbs too, but this is supposedly a 1/2ton class truck. An ICE 1/2ton weighs about 5500lbs. The Lightning is 6700lbs. At 8474lbs, this is pretty heavy...

Thanks for pointing this out. I think some folks get so caught up in the ICE vs EV argument that they fail to stop and really think through comparisons like this.

@bluesky9093 very true. The comment above makes a good point about regen breaking too. The regen on this truck is fantastic.

I have had a Tesla M3 since 2018 and it has always had the navigation feature with percentage charge on arrival. When I first got it, the algorithm wasn't that good in that when you started your trip it would say you would have 10% charge when you arrived and during the trip it would update the estimate and tell you to slow down or find a charger. Over the years, they have updated the feature and now it is very accurate.
@livewirereview
@livewirereview Ай бұрын
@dieseldavebrown this is my favourite feature in Tesla vehicles. You're right that it is a lot better than it used to be. I think all EVs should have this feature.
@aaronbounds1336
@aaronbounds1336 17 күн бұрын
Baffling how GM thinks people who use a work truck don’t want certain features, like SuperCruise, more HP, a longer bed, heated seats and steering wheel, cooled seats, more outlets, etcetera. Since when do tradespeople not have any use for those features, and six seats. Seems like they got it backwards. It should be a regular truck with more durable floor liner, bed liner, and seats. If people are out working in the elements all day and perhaps night, it stands to reason that they wouldn’t be put off by a comfortable truck with heated or cooled seats, etcetera.

I love how the work truck gets a spare tire below the bed but the 100k version of the Silverado EV doesn't get a Spare or Android Auto/apple car play. GM what were you thinking?

212kwh and 3.8 tons is insane, at least for my european mind. You could turn that into at least two normal sized cars lol. I wonder if taking a few inches of legroom and turning it into a longer bed would be more useful for a "work" truck. Seems like trucks from 20 years ago had a better form factor for the kind of buyer this vehicle is inteded, or at least marketed, towards.
@livewirereview
@livewirereview 2 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same! 6 seats, less leg room, more bed. It is a little much. The battery is so big that it was actually difficult to charge it up any significant amount. You could make 3 cars with what this truck is made of!

I am very close to buying this truck. When you say you could only charge 25% overnight was that on the GM PowerUP level 2 charger that plugs into a RV 40 amp outlet? Thanks!
@livewirereview
@livewirereview 2 ай бұрын
Nope. I only had access to a 16a 240v charger that puts out 3.7kw. You'll do much better with 40amps but still only about 55 to 60% overnight. But 55 to 60% will get you a very considerable distance! That's about 400+km easily.
@kelviskelvis7140
@kelviskelvis7140 2 ай бұрын
@joshbrittain7167 I own the RST trim level. The MAX battery pack (205KWh) does charge at 380KW and keeps over 300KW between 15 and 65 SOC and slowly drops from there. I have a 60 amp circuit feeding a tesla combo wall unit and have it set to 48 amps and I get about 24 miles added every hour. I have used a 80 amp charger at work and at 19KW charging I add about 34 miles per hour. These are very respectable and capable charging vehicles. The extended battery pack (180KWh) have a slightly lower battery pack peak voltage and gets about 20% less DC fast charging speeds (peak should be about 310KW) To go back to your question a 40 amp outlet will charge (80% rule) at 32 amps which will get you 7.2 KW charging. I consider that to be very usable for overnight charging. BTW I keep my SOC limit to 65% for every day use and only adjust when I plan road trips. And when I am on the road trip that is over 500mi I only charge to 80% as a rule of thumb. The GM NAV system is very good at placing you at chargers for the shortest time to charge. GM hit this out of the park with these pick up trucks. They tow very nicely and are smooth to drive. I sold my chevy duramax 1500 and do not miss it at all. The RST EV is a better truck. Good luck with your decision.

In terms of the charging speed, if you use an actual 350 kW charger, you should see peak speeds of 370-380 kW.

I disagree about the charging port location. It's actually ideally placed for towing. If you don't have a trailer, it literally doesn't matter. If the charger has pull-through stalls, the port location is ideal. If the charger doesn't have pull-through stalls, you're going to need to disconnect the trailer regardless of whether the charging port is located unless you are blocking multiple other parking spaces/driving lanes.

United States member of America I disagree with your take on the battery. I honestly think it could be bigger and it’s big already. I want to be able to travel from Atlanta to New Orleans off a single charge. Instead of that piece of glass they put on the RST model. They should’ve took a page out the Fisker ocean book and made it a solar panel. But I’m not mad that they didn’t because it’s already Uber expensive. I’d like the work truck and I agree with you guys that the mid gate should have been part of it. It makes no sense to me that they didn’t do this. #Chevy dropped the ball on that. The minute that the truck wasn’t a $40,000 truck and became a $70,000 is the mini Chevy should’ve realized it should’ve had more convenient technology! How much money do y’all think people are made out of?

I think this is what you get when a real truck company builds an EV truck. CyberTruck is going after a different market in my view, the posers, those who want to be the centre of attention but never really use them like a work truck. Chevy hit it out of the part on this one.

According to the owners manual, this truck has substandard outlets. Page 102 reveals that the plugs only put out 400 watts, far less than what’s necessary to run most plug in construction tools. They will run battery chargers, and not much else. It won’t run a skillsaw, won’t run a refrigerator. Ii complained, I want fully functional plugs like the RST. I think most people would. I found out by accident after driving it home. About the plugs. At the very least this information should have been disclosed. I would have never purchased this truck had I known.asked why this wasn’t disclosed, no response. Asked if it could be fixed, no reply. Asked for my money back, no reply. If you can’t afford an RST DONT buy this truck.

How much would a 200kwh home backup battery cost?
@junehanzawa5165
@junehanzawa5165 Ай бұрын
That's something that most people don't think about. You can backup your whole house for a week or longer with this truck. Really, really useful during a blackout or hurricane, etc. Provided that you had charged it up to full before. But even a half charged battery this size will give you a few days of power for your house. Which is incredibly valuable to have. Worth several tens of thousands of dollars if bought separately.

This vehicle weighs more than my 2020 GMC 3500HD AT4, has a towing/cargo capacity less than my 2024 Silverado 1500 Trail Boss LT, costs as much as a GMC Denali, and has abysmal range, there is absolutely NOTHING to like about this vehicle...
@livewirereview
@livewirereview 50 минут бұрын
@wipatriot510 it has the best range of most EVs. Over 700km in some cases. Yes, it weighs a LOT! 10,000lbs is decent towing capacity. No complaints here. Cost for what it offers isn't bad. Especially if it's used for work. If it's a driveway queen, then it's not worth the investment.

It seems that you are describing Canadian tesla sc deployment is much further behind than the US. I am unsure how up to date your experiences are with charging non-tesla's. The only reason that tesla V2 are proprietary to tesla only is that every v2 charging site is hardware incapable to CCS communications which tesla and elon switched to in 2022 models. Any tesla vehicle produced before 2022 needs a hardware port controller upgrade (which tesla does not offer for free) to communicate via CCS communications protocol (V2 chargers cannot do that). This means that the new J3400 standard uses only CCS communications and not tesla proprietary communications even though the cable design comes from tesla and tesla models produced before 2022 are not compatible to J3400 chargers. So in the end older tesla models will not be able to use non-tesla chargers when we switch over to J3400 without paying for a hardware upgrade to their car.
@livewirereview
@livewirereview 2 ай бұрын
Yes that is all correct. Luckily the hardware upgrade is inexpensive for most models. But it still leaves Tesla owner's that CAN charge at CCS stations an advantage over other OEM EVs.
