As someone who works in automated manufacturing, it’s important to take in to account the entire process of building.I love small vehicles and how they’re usually style forward options, but the simple fact of the matter is, that’s not what Americans are buying. To be honest, that’s not what the whole world is buying.

I bought my used 2014 Fiat 500e for $9k in 2017in Minnesota with only 7k miles on odometer. It has been a perfect city car. It still shows over 120 miles possible range in 70 degree temps. The Bosch battery pack is reliable and not showing any noticeable degradation helped by active cooling system after 55,000 miles of driving. No problems. Replaced tires, windshield wipers and topped off fluids only maintenance needed. It had one minor software recall that was fixed before I owned the car. Original brakes still usable for at least 10k more miles due to regen braking. Would I buy a new 2024 Fiat 500e? Not for $36,000!!!! Way overpriced for the new cars range and considering far more competitive offerings by other marques. Sad because they are great city cars (holds 23 bags of groceries!) and all the owners who I know who have the original U.S. version won't part with them. If you take 150 mile range multiplied by 1.7 (One DCFC stop) gives you 255 miles road trip range. If you’re ever going beyond that, don’t buy this. If you only do that once in a while, don’t hesitate buying this. If you carry more than two people, you should have your head examined. I agree with you that the rear seat should be removed and this be used for exactly what it’s intention is which is a mild climate economic get around only if you can AC charge it regularly. I would lease the base trim with nothing down. If you buy it then put in a huge sunroof it’s obviously capable of hosting for that sun run fun motif. Honestly trips without adaptive cruise would be a pain which is its greatest hint this is not its intended use case. Two small cases in the rear and a dog in the back seat for a weekend get away should be your greatest ask. It you need five cases for two people then it’s definitely about the close destination and not the journey. 💯 28:38

It is very odd that they did not just do a normal console so the cup holder (and x2) and other features could be at normal level - they obviously have the space for it. Maybe some entrepreneurial JC Whitney type come up with something to fill that space usefully. The gauge/ infotainment units are light years ahead of the discontinued gas model. Old FCA boss was an idiot who spited his own nose a number of times which carried on after death through the PSA merger into Stellantis. The slow rollout of the 500e or any Citroën/Peugeot for that matter just shows how poorly Stellantis is utilising their lineup. Chrysler is practically brain dead so why not rebadged and homogenise a Citroen C4 Picasso, ëC4, C5X or Peugeot 3008 for the yanks? But what you do get is a rebadged Dodge from an expensive performance high-end crossover Alfa Romeo? The fact that the 500e is the only model on its FCA designed platform shows how poorly that platform is being utilised and squandered in favour of the profitable crossover. Any kind of body from a mini-estate Giardinia, a Panda or an EV 124 Spyder/Barchetta/Bianchina/Coupé could all be viable platforms much like how the previous Mini platform was stretched and developed.

Having personally owned a Fiat 500 previously, this "Influencer" is exaggerating the negatives of the car, as he quite obviously makes every 'fault' look far worse than it is. I personally carried two women, one right at 6' tall, AND their luggage to the airport on their way to a bowling tournament in the car by laying one the rear seats flat (yes, they will lie flat, though still a small step above the cargo floor). They were each carrying 3-ball bowling bags and a suitcase, along with their purse/carryon bags. The airport, btw, was 50 miles away from their homes. So while admittedly tight, it wasn't impossible. --- So in all actuality, this little car isn't nearly as bad as he says and is a blast to drive with the 115 horses and 150 torgue.

And yes, you CAN take those off before folding the back seats, which allows the seat backs to lie flat and make for a more stable cargo platform. ---- As I say, all the negatives about this vehicle were exaggerated and the positives minimized to MAKE it look bad. The Fiat 500e would be no less fun to drive with notably better performance than any non--turbo predecessor.

Here's the thing, if the exFCA CEO wasn't such an idiot, the 500e could've had 5 more years of development. We've heard uninspiring news that the 500e was getting a hybrid in a few years which just screams incompetence because there's over a decade of hybrid 500 concepts and decades older EV, PHEV and HYB Fiat concepts. A Twin Air (800cc 2cyl) plugin hybrid was always possible, it would've been lighter and more accessible but Fiat simply ignored that and lobbied against incoming EU emissions legislation instead of investing in the future to which we get a very expensive, posh and uncompetitive 500e. Excluding the EU-only 24kWh 500e, the most Fiat achieved was a 12v mild hybrid with a completely new 1000cc 3cyl in 2020 for what is 1989s technology.

Two things: One, I do not see the point in a review of a small car that punishes the car for being small. Obviously we know that bigger cars exist. It's no more fair than punishing the Chevy Blazer for not being able to fit into a tiny parking space. As far as the shopper is concerned, that is a given. Two, I think it's borderline dereliction of duty to mention that the Equinox qualifies for the $7500 tax credit on purchase, but *NOT* mention that the 500e qualifies for the $7500 tax credit on lease. Considering that the original 500e was exclusively a lease-only vehicle, I don't think a ton of potential customers will be turned-off by the idea of a lease being a better deal than a purchase. And if someone is really motivated to _buy_ a 500e, well then they can still do that. Otherwise, I agree that Stellantis' product decisions for North America are truly baffling. They have abandoned entire segments by cancelling certain vehicles and not having replacements ready. As a former 500L owner, I would love for _anybody_ to sell an "MPV"-type vehicle in the USA again. I think the Grande Panda would be really popular over here.

That could’ve made a 🇺🇸 Panda ev small battery 20 -25k price range =success story . Or even gave us a gas Panda .
@johnny021283 ай бұрын
If it was $10k cheaper starting it would probably make more sense. Looks like a $20-25k vehicle inside and out IMHO Other than pricing it a great urban commuter car Edit: made this comment before listening to the conclusion 🤣 Still think it's overpriced since most of the structural development was already done for the ICE variant before making it an EV. The battery is usually the most expensive component of building an EV and this has a battery capacity that some manufacturers put in their PHEVs...

I just saw on X something about Fiat dropping the price to something like $21k. If they drop the price that low they will sell. Would like to see some sort of confirmation that just happened. Maybe that is just the overseas market?

This would be a fine car. It’s just about 12 to 15 000$ too expensive for what it is.
@tbone94053 ай бұрын
I would look at buying a used BMW i3 instead of this! For half the price. I’m buying a used 2019 BMW I3 Rex in 2024 for less than 20k, and then take off the EV rebate of 4,000. 😮

America needs more small cars. Crossovers are a pointless and dont offer much more than cars.

I was interested in it, but I find too many desired features missing, and too many features I don't want... Things like power fold mirrors are missing, but power open doors that to me are not necessary, especially for small car like this. Similarly, for the price, the material quality is pretty low, again not really adding much value to the vehicle. Further more, there are very few customization options that made the 500e hard to be desirable....

one error I see in your logic is, the smaller car has a smaller battery. This would mean the cost to produce is lower, because the battery is the most expensive component. So the cost should be lower to produce and make a profit. The fact that you can buy a bigger car with a way bigger battery for the same money, means Fiat is counting on people wanting the name plate.

I'm annoyed they didn't make it AWD like make it a hot hatch with crazy power I would have bought it 🤷🏼♂️

A car that small only makes sense in dense European cities and few Americans will pay such a big premium for one when you can get a golf cart that's bigger.

SIgh... why didn't they give us the 500e Abarth...?? That's the one where I hand over my money to Fiat. (The Panda might also get my money...)

It could be a little bit of a "fit" for our market if it was prices at 30-35K. With the tax credit it would be well under 30K

The tax credit does apply if you lease this car.

Agreed fiat grand panda ev, would have been much better choice, which by the way costs $23k in Europe, and has 200 mile range, while this little thing is so overpriced with battery about doing barely 140 miles and for $35k. No way man.

Yes, if Fiat was going to reenter the North American market, it had other options as mentioned. But if they were limited to the 500, we should've had the convertible and Abarth make an appearance. Let's face it... fun plays a strong part in the purchase rationale. Sure, urban commuters will appreciate the small size, but combine the sliding top convertible with its nimbleness, cute demeanor and zippy performance, and Fiat could deliver a fun factor not seen in other EVs. Would that sell in great numbers? Probably not, but that's for the other models. Instead, the 500 should be marketed as a energetic four-wheeled puppy... a true go-kart for street. Drop the sensible commuter crap. It should be a smile-maker.

I would lease for 200ish per month. Cheap and cheerful cars should be CHEAP!

Umm, no, 205/55R17s are not "tiny." They're perfectly ordinary, probably larger than necessary for a small economy car. Alex, like many car reviewers, has a weird obsession with wanting bigger and wider tires, even though they cost more and lead to worse fuel economy. Even worse are skinny sidewalls that are easy to damage when driving over potholes.

Just doesn't cut it. Too expensive for the lack of range. I actually like it style and size wise.

I’m playing devils advocate here, but I have a feeling if it had 300 miles range you and many others would find another reason to hate it. Likely the looks. 😂😂 the negativity towards ev blows my mind. This isn’t an attack on your comment so please don’t take it that way. Just an observation on how people will say anything to make it seem like “oh if it wasn’t for that, I would buy an ev” and it’s just simply not true. People seem too set in their ways to try something new. And the sad part is they buy cars with features they don’t like anyway. If you aren’t ordering a car and waiting months for it, you are probably compromising.

Don't let EV haters, blind your objectivity, to the fact that not every EV is appropriate for every market. Just like not every ICEV is appropriate for every market.

(around 17:15) 0-60 doesn't feel "speedy". I had to think over the feeling I had with my Golf I GTI : 0 - 100 km/hr (the European counterpart of your 0 - 60) in 8.8 seconds. Heck, did thát feel quick, back then ! Indeed, nothing compared to the 0 - 100 in 4.4 seconds I do with my current car, but still, 8.5 seconds to get there: that's not exactly slow either 😉
