Overpriced by about $12,500. Start the price at par with the Italian price (17.5k euro/26.5k CAD) and it'd be a great city car and a real option, especially with government incentives in Canada.

Totally agree, these cars are great when they're actually cheap. Then they make sense as a second commuter car or teen's first car. If it's like the first generation 500e, they'll be really cheap on the used market and the batteries will be in decent condition.

The price your mentioning is for the previous gen mild-hybrid 500 however. This generation 500e starts at 29.9k euros (44k CAD). Mind you, the base model over there doesn’t get LED headlights, it’s all halogen lighting up front and it also gets smaller wheels. It’s quite the expensive toy even if I think it is beautiful.

Canada has free trade with the Eurozone, so there's no import fees. They literally should be charging about $10k less, there's no reason for it to be $40k. With the cost of batteries down and this being 40kwh, its not cost of manufacturing, its a choice they've made to make this a specialty product. They could actually sell volume here if they would price it right. But, I still love it. I also love the comment @4:15 about it not being a small car. I mean it is a small car, but the point is we need to stop thinking you need huge vehicles to carry some stuff. Hatchback cars carry a lot in a smaller overall physical size, and this is good. On the acceleration front with the new versions I suspect Fiat deliberately now retard full immediate power delivery as I can always spin the wheels on the original if I try to start too aggressively. Here in California, I've started to notice a few dealers with large inventories providing steep discounts on their unsold 2024 models taking up to $9500 off MSRP. When factoring in the tax deduction the cost is getting close to a "reasonable" price.

Stellantis does a couple things SO wrong here. First- nobody likes a modernized fiat 500. Put solid steelies on it, bring back 50s/60s paint colors, get rid of those ugly led fog lights and pit some more retro throwback lights in it, same with the headlights, and these will sell very well. Also having a mopar sticker under the hood will further destroy mopars reputation with dodge
