Cactus Blossoms sounds wonderful! Phil Alvin and his brother Dave have some excellent music. Nice Jason Isbell pick! I need to get a copy of Nebraska as I lost my copy many years ago. Nice tag response Randy! ✌️

Hi Mike. I think that you would really like the Cactus Blossoms. Phil had such a great voice but I came to appreciate Dave's as well on his solo material. We did have a Jason Isbell match on our tags. I only had the Nebraska CD for years but ran across a nice vinyl copy not long ago. I'm not about to replace all my CD's with vinyl copies, but if I run across a reasonably priced one I will do it. Thanks for watching.

Some great albums here, Randy. Always good to see Hayes Carll. I use him for an answer in my response to this tag. Still have to record and post it, though. Back in the late 90s, I used to see Robbie Fulks and BR5-49 play all the time. I was obsessed with Robbie Fulks back then. Still really love his music. I also use him as one of my answers. Not a ton of folks are doing this tag, but I'm glad to see the ones I have seen. Cheers! ✌

Thanks for watching. Hayes Carll is a favorite but I only have one of his albums on vinyl. Robbie Fulks seems like such an entertaining character and I would love to see him in concert. I had a friend that got to know Chuck Mead of BR549 as well as his parents and they played around the Kansas City area a lot. I recently purchased the Margo Cilker album after seeing your "best of 2023" video and I am really enjoying it. I look forward to your Americana tag.

Thanks Glen. Things have calmed down somewhat, so I hope to be more of a participant in KZbin. It was between Flatt & Scruggs and John Hartford for my banjo cover. The Phil Alvin album is mostly obscure song covers from his record collection, many very old that he jazzes up.

Hi Randy - It's really great that you managed to do this. I have concluded that I can't do it. In any case, I am certain I have no records with banjos! Well done 👍

Thanks Brian. I was thinking that there may be a banjo on Springsteen's Seger Sessions, if you have that one. Maybe you could make it CanadAmericana, kind of like the Neil Young song off Barn. I think that I am going to try and do the blues one as well. Maybe you need to start a Alternative Music tag in the future. Take care

Gotta go with Music From Big Pink to start of an Americana grouping of records ! Back then.. We called everything country rock in that style. That Phil Alvin album looks great ! So funny.. I have been compiling 4 or 5 John Hiatt records very recently. "I Will" is a song that's been with me forever ! My first slow dance song with Linda ( we went steady .. 1969 ). Nice one, Randy !

Thanks JT. I think American covers a wide variety of genres like country rock, alternative country, singer/songwriter etc. I love that Phil Alvin album and his take on some old obscure tunes. Bring The Family is my favorite John Hiatt record but he made so many wonderful ones. That's a great memory for the "I Will" song and one that you will cherish. Take care. Looks like you had a great New Year's celebration.

Bring The Family is about my favorite as well ! Slow Turning and Stolen Moments are right there for me, also. Yeah.. Americana really stretches out these days with such a wide variety of outstanding artists.. Buddy and Julie Miller come to mind.

@@jtsrecordroom3963 Those are great Hiatt records as well. The Tiki Bar Is Open and Riding With The King are also two deserving ones. I really like Buddy & Julie Miller as well. I think I have five of his albums and two that they did together.

Great response to the tag, some tricky questions for a non US resident. As American as a Genre is not so common in Europe, there is Country and there is Folk and Blues, so you have to go outside the box to do this I guess. Cheers
@RandyforRoyals

I think that Americana is a broad category and that any artist considered alt-country, folk-rock/blues or with a rootsy foundation could be considered Americana. Thanks for watching.

I Will might also be my favourite acoustic Beatles song; for an interesting acoustic Beatles cover, check out Canadian folk duo Fraser & DeBolt's version of Don't Let Me Down. It's raw, dissonant and discordant but also somehow oddly powerful and affecting, perhaps even more so than the original. I do have some Lucinda Williams on CD but not that one; otherwise the only albums here that I know and own as well are Nebraska and Big Pink. Cheers!

I have not heard of Fraser & DeBolt but will check out their Beatles cover. It is an early Lucinda album but I think that Car Wheels on a Gravel Road and Essence are my favorites. Nebraska was the first album that came to mind on the acoustic question. Thanks for watching.

Nice Randy, love your eclectic taste. John Hiatt is someone I need to get into more. Flatt and Scruggs epitomizes the banjo. Cactus Blossoms, I'll always thank you for getting me into them. I appreciate it Rsndy! You should tag Hedley in your description so he sees this!

Thanks for providing the tag Sam. John Hiatt is one of my favorite songwriters and I really loved the albums from 1983 to 1997 especially. It was going to be between Flatt and Scruggs and John Hartford for my banjo cover. I'm glad you enjoyed The Cactus Blossoms.

Hey, great choices. I’ll probably do this too but most of mine will be Newgrass. Is that considered Americana ? Either way it will be fun.
