As an owner of an SQ8 etron , i love the smoothness and effortless driving this car, I love the adaptive air suspension and I dont have to worry about bumps anymore. B&O sound system is superme ! The seats are pretty, comfy but the seat ventilation and massage features only come on a more standard looking seats. But I love the S seats so ended up chose the S logo ones instead of massage seats. Wheels are very cool and stylish! Infotainment MMI is great, virtual cockpit is great. You can actually assign steering button to turn on steering wheel heat feature. Driving and corning with the 3rd motor is damn good and responsive. Yes the range is not as good but i charge at home and drive in a city as daily so I am happy. Oh by the way, I got this car when Audi had $12000 off promotion during 2024 July. From $128k to $108k for a SUV version. I think its a steal! PS , I am also an owner of Porsche 911 992 4GTS cab so I bought this SQ8 etron for groceries and coming baby :)

7:40 - Much like a lot of Hondas and some Mazdas, Audi and VW very often do not use in-wheel pressure sensors for TPMS. They will use the less accurate, but cheaper system of comparing wheel speed signals and making an educated guess that a tire is low if one or more of wheels is spinning a significantly different RPM than the rest. This system requires you to calibrate or "store" tire pressures after you top off the air and take it on a chill drive. If a previous reviewer messed with the pressures and never hit "store" after the fact, the light will always come back on. It's a strange choice on a 100K+ car, but at least there's no sensors to run out of battery or get broken during a tire change.

I am actually one of the seemingly 3 people who bought an eTron S Sportback (in bright ass red no less), the precursor to this car that's largely the same. 2 little things from the review, the car will give you individual tire pressures (and temps), it just will only measure them once you get over ~35mph for some reason. I think that's also only on the S version from what people have said on the forums. I also found you can get the car to launch a lot harder by putting it in boost mode and then brake boosting it - according to the power dial it does actually build to about 35% power sitting still iirc. As always love the review, just the first time you guys have reviewed a car I own so had to chime in!

With you on 3 people - bought black sprortback S and white sportback S-line for my wife ~18mo ago :) Actually saw 2 other sportbacks on the road in Seattle area after 18mo driving in last few month - guess its not very popular because of shape I actually really like lane keeping and driver assist on this car - doesnt require to keep eyes on the road/doesnt have eye sensor. And keeps working until very heavy rain/snow fall starts. Never even once felt like it doesn't have enough power on the highway or at the stop light. Little heavy, but turns and brakes well too.

I have an Etron and a tip for charging: Hold the charging cable in and up while it's initiating and it'll work 100% of the time. It'll usually fail to charge at electrify America stations, but if you just hold the cable in while it's initiating then it works every time. You can let it go once it starts charging. Also, the problem with charging is mostly due to the charging infrastructure in Canada which is horrible. I never had any problems charging at home. I drive often 400kms trips and never had any issues since now I know with chargers to use. Being one of the few countries that have a majority of the energy production being sustainable, EVs make a lot of sense in Canada.

Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons, I wish the EV fanboys would understand why EVs don't make good sports cars, and I wish ICE fans would acknowledge the obvious benefits of EVs when it comes to daily drivers. I say this as an enthusiast myself, I've owned several manual transmission sports cars including my current c7 Vette. And I'm telling you, when it comes to daily drivers, a well-executed EV is simply better. We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year. Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, lightweight, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars. My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. EVs dont work for everyone (you need a place to charge and can't road trip all the time etc etc), but if it works in your lifestyle - try it before you knock it is all I'm saying. You might be surprised. And like I said - just because a car is EV doesn't make it good. There are good EVs and bad ones, just like gas cars. For example, I' not a huge Tesla fan. But, the well-executed EVs are, in my opinion, the best daily drivers, if they fit into your lifestyle. ...and this is coming from someone that's currently on his 8th manual transmission sports car (Vette, Mini JCW, 350Z, etc etc). And to be clear - these are my favorite cars, not the I-PACE. But, I have a wife and a kid, and we need something that isn't manual and has a back seat. And in that category, the Jag is by far and away the best we've had.
@krane159 ай бұрын
EV don't make good sports cars? Says who? EV are fine (nobody really care that much about what's powering their cars). If EV got 500 mi people would by them. Even 400 mi would remove their biggest limitation of range anxiety and ease the necessity of having to find chargers that work. As long as the car can outlast the driver they can always charge it overnight.
@JamesM-hb2cj9 ай бұрын
Just my opinion. Sports cars are not about speed - they’re about fun and engagement. Unless you road trip every single week you don’t need 400 miles of range. What you need in a sports car is fun, lightweight, good exhaust note, manual transmission, etc.

I'll go you one better, there should be a camera/washer module since all camera will inevitably get dirty and become useless. Especially northern climates. You buy a state-of-the-art vehicle and still have to stop and get out to clean the camera lens or go underneath the car to adjust the shocks. Some of the stuff car makers come up with is just goofy. Sorta make you lose confidence in their ability to build safe and reliable cars. You wonder what they were thinking? On the other hand, I can image some clueless CO coming in and saying "just do it" and it being put into production simply because the boss said so and not because it makes any sense. I've witnessed that happen in other fields, so I can believe it to be true in car manufacturing too.

Y'all definitely need to charge at home. It's fair game to complain about DC fast charging, yet still a significant injustice to ignore home charging for the millions who can. FWIW, the few times, recently, we've charged on Electrify America and Tesla's Magic Dock (supercharger), it went flawlessly.

@@TheStraightPipes Understandable, and appreciative with all you and the team do. But I'm finding there is a growing number of people who have this perception that DC fast charging is the only way to charge, completely oblivious to the capability they have at home, to include level 1 (120V) for those who drive little. I remember the difficulty GM had with explaining the Volt PHEV capability. But in the end, many assumed the Volt could only travel 30 miles, or failed to understand the plug in aspect. Unfortunately, sometimes, the message has to be spelled out repetitively.

Test drove a non-S version the other day and is kind of disappointed- lets not talk about the range but overall package as a car. Being a 100k+ CAD car the bottom part of the dash/glovebox/door card and centre console are cheap hard plastics, no ventilated seats and the infotainment is really showing its age (first debuted in 2018 for the C8 A6/7). I agree the suspension and setup is very comfortable and the power is good enough for most people as a daily, but I disagree that the B&O lives up to its price tag, its really hollow and it sounds like you are listening to music in the washroom. No wonder they are all sitting in dealer lots in BC currently.

I think cars that require touching a screen to change settings should be illegal. For things that don't "need" changing maybe, but even then - it's distracted driving, which if someone were using another screen while driving (like a smartphone) would technically be not legal anywhere in the US (and Canada, if my understanding is correct). Why is this allowed in car infotainment I wonder?

Too bad the prices have crept up on these so much. It would made much more sense in the mid-eighties (USD) when you look at the market. This up there in Lucid/Taycan money.

I like the look of the car but damn that price, I recommend get a Lucid Air, or Rivian R1T or R1S, or even that new Kia EV9 GT version for that price, and of course a Tesla X or Y. Audi needs to stop with these expensive EVs until they could justify why they're better than all the ones I recommended. Thinking about it I would like to see it drag race those vehicles to see if it can beat one of them.

Price also on brands, commitment and luxury. Personally I am hesitate to buy new US brand like Rivian and Lucid and I am a business man, I would not go down to Kia because of the price.

My whole thing is this. Yea it’s a great car, but it isn’t a primary car. Until they figure out solid state batteries and we have a global fast charging network, it will be a secondary car for a lot of people. Sure 30% of the population can probably use EVs as the primary vehicle, but they have probably bought their vehicle already. Car companies are treating cars like disposable tech, so are we really saving anything when a lot of the tech heavy metals and batteries may end up in a landfill? Not really sure but it’s just what I think about.

I’m one of those who has no idea about Fahrenheit temperatures.
@matthewhawkins14729 ай бұрын
The Fahrenheit temperature is much more accurate… a 100* day in Fahrenheit is a very hot day…. In Celsius a 100* day would be the death of most life on Earth 😂
@MLHunt9 ай бұрын
Agree. 0F is really cold. 100F is really hot. Ambient temps rarely fall outside this 0-100 range just about everywhere on earth where significant numbers of people live, so this scale works well in terms of human experience. And people generally prefer warm weather to cool weather so the general optimal range is just a bit on the high side of the midpoint, say 65-75 or so, with possible variance based on individual preference. Also, F is ~2x more precise than C if the temperature is reported as an integer, which allows for more granularity. The choice of setting a 0-100 scale based general human comfort is no more or less arbitrary than setting a 0-100 scale based on the physical chemistry of water. But I'm a human, not a puddle, so setting the scale based on human comfort makes more sense to me. So in summary, Fahrenheit is a better, more intuitive system for assigning a number to a temperature in a practical, what-does-it-feel-like way.
