I have done 122 km/ 75 miles on full battery charge on my X5 50e on long journeys. Some of it, I suspect, is due to regen. Currently my average consumption is 74.5 mpg(UK), with 67% electric mileage. The X5 PHEV is a no brainer for me, wirh huge saving on fuel.

@@the-bu3lb x5 50e has regenerative braking technology, which allows the vehicle to recoup part of its energy during deceleration and braking (its not as good as the set up was in the 45e)

Just bought the x5 50e after having a 2020 x5 40in (which I loved so much) and I'm beyonnnnnnd impressed with the updates on this car but also with the air suspension system... the drive is night and day, it's crazy.

For long highway drives the standard X5 40i xdrive will likely be more economical. My dad said theirs does 32-33+ mpg on the highway at 70 mph. Still plenty fast too, 0-60 5.0 seconds…

He tested the xDrive40i and he also got 27mpg )) but outside temp was lower at 47.

Probably true given the weight difference, but almost everybody has mixed driving patterns, so the PHEV should still make better financial sense.

I have the X5 45E which is similar but the 50E definitely is an upgrade from the 45E with additional power and range. It's great as long as you have access to a plug in overnight and a willingness to plug it in often. If not, just stick with the 40I

honestly miss a lot of features I had on the 45e (the region override/ the rear seat fold latches, the buttons - did I mention the buttons :)

Thanks for the interesting review. I admittedly fast-forwarded thru parts of the video, but after you did the 45-ish all electric and the battery was fully depleted, I would've been interested in seeing what sort of hwy mileage you might have obtained driving in hybrid mode (if you had taken the time to fully recharge the battery again). In other words, 3 options: electric-only (you did that), gas only (you did that), and a third: hybrid (gas primary but with a fully-charged battery). Thanks!

X5 has been a turbo inline 6 for the plug-in since 2020 with the xDrive45e model. xDrive50e just ups the power from previous years.

Does it keep different odometers for ICE/assisted miles vs EV only mode? I'm curious because I might be a 2nd owner at some point

I like these videos; good scientific process to confirm EPA numbers. Reproducibility is key. Would like to see this on the 2025 MDX (not type S)

Thanks! Not many people seem to recognize that reproducibility is the most difficult aspect. Will very likely get the A-spec MDX

Why is it a good thing? Over here it makes more sense to buy one outright (lease companies screw you over when you return the vehicle, damage etc)

@@drunkenwhiskeyeu Lease first four years or what ever u are comfortable in because you pay interest on portion of the car value, at the beginning of the year since lease rates are lower. plus you have a flexibility to upgrade and i totally agree this is not for everyone. When the lease comes to an end and if u like the car so much finance it and the then your rate of interest will be slightly higher on finance will only apply for the residual portion. this way you save some Interest overall. And BMW always has programs that they offer lower interest rate Month too.

With a EV like Tesla you’re supposed to charge only up to 80%. In winter you get 70% of indicated range If you extrapolate you get 30 miles range at best? Please comment

That is very dependent on driving style and duration.

@@DailyMotor realize that is correct, but it is the number most people would be most interested in. You should devise a 'norma' route and test that. What is a normal route? Well how about a 10-20 mile commute of 20% city/80% highway or thereabouts.

Not so, I had it on nav as well, so the car's hybrid system kept switching between electric and ICE. I reached my destination with 1% of battery charge left.

70km of range in Europe is more than enough to last for 2 days easily furthermore driving at lower speeds it would be +100km more like.

Electrical dumpster fire. Sent mine back after 3000 miles after it spent 6 out of 12 weeks in the shop having multiple electrical system and software updates / replacements. Steer clear until they fix the electrics because the car itself ( whilst not in the repair shop ) is a dream to drive
