I love what they have done here! We still get the amazing V8 with its glorious sound but now it has a little friend helping it out to pull even harder with more grip. Additionally I think placing the battery and electric motor towards the front of this car will most likely help its weight distribution since the normal C8 has always been a bit understeery.

@@collinshaw8744 You might be right, but I doubt the driving characteristic were tuned to be like this on purpose since the Corvette has never really been a particularly easy car to drive. They chose the mid engine concept because they couldn't get enough grip on the rear axle and I think they just went a bit overboard with it. From what I saw in the video the car seemed to be rotating decently now, even though the front wheels are driven and should have less lateral grip. Then again, I have never driven any of these cars so this is just speculation...

@Slimboid
@Slimboid Жыл бұрын
In terms of hybrid quality these days, you get more reliability issues adding a pair of pistons to an ice car than you do an e-motor. Think about it - the electric motor reduces the stress on the engine and vice-versa, so less wear on both. PHEVs and EVs are catching up but not far to go.

Most mild hybrids like this only cycle in the ‘safe zone’ of the battery so for example 10-90% of the min and max charge of the cells. This can be very beneficial for the longevity of the batteries. As a good example of this is Toyota Prius. Very small batteries that almost never need replacing and still work when the cars are very very old.
@mason8920
@mason8920 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, he's kind of talking from his experience with phones and laptops, but it's not really the same. Phones have a single small battery cell that is typically in a constant state of charging or discharging. Because of this dendrite build up is unavoidable. Cars on the other hand have massive packs of cells that each share the load. It's like the difference between throwing a kilogram of steel and a kilogram of feathers at someone.

@stephenbrownca
@stephenbrownca Жыл бұрын
@@bernardomotard that's a weird take on it. Just because it's not $500k it's worth it? The electric motor and batteries shouldn't cost more than about 10 to 15k. So the eray should with equivalent setup be 10 to 15k more than a C8. So why is there such a huge gap in price? If it's because a bunch of c8 options come as standard in the eray, then make that clear. As far as i can it's not that. I understand why the Z06 is a higher price. They spent years building this new engine to compete with supercar/hypercar engines. But th Eray uses the standard C8 engine and it doesn't look as though the hybrid motor or batteries are particularly special either. I have a feeling that a fully configured eray is only going to be about 10k shy of the equivalent Z06. I don't think it's worth that though. Sadly, i think the ZR1 and Zora are going the same way, and i suspect the ZR1 will be Z06 + 30k with the Zora being another 30k to 40k on top of that. I love my vette and would love a c8 upgrade, but 200k to 250k for the later models is going to be a hard sell, and 150k for an eray is too.

You should check out the Mclaren Artura hybrid super car. I think its by far the most innovative design. That, or MKBHD should just ask Christian Von Koenigsegg if he can tour his factory (which he would gladly allow, hes such a chill dude) because honestly, no one can touch koenigsegg and what they are doing with hybrids and EV's.
@MrTresto
@MrTresto Жыл бұрын
"No one can touch Koenigsegg" seems to be where it's at, they may be technologically advanced, they are also KZbin only for 99.9999% of people since not only you can't buy them as they all cost multi million dollars and have a multi year waitlist, they are so rare you never even see one either unless you live/go in certain specific parts of Dubai/London/LA. It's a pity because their tech seems very clever. (I don't know how reliable, it's not like it runs much)

Koenigseggs are garbage they barely beat corvettes and are annihilated by rimacs and bugattis. they should go bankrupt ASAP

@@MrTresto I don't think people can afford a Corvette either so might as well review REAL tech advancements.

The E-ray makes a lot of sense in European countries where vehicles are taxed based on engine capacity, but hybrids are either tax exempt or benefit from huge discounts. For reference, taxes generally raise exponentially for every litre above 2L, thus a normal Vette is prohibitively taxed compared to 911s

The transmissions coupling ICE and electric units in hybrids like the Prius are complex. The E-Ray’s “pavement coupling” is simple and ingenious.

Nice! Only makes sence really, I love the fact ELECTRIC part of the Vetter makes it AWD, so you can stay a purist RWD with gas motor & have a choice to flip to Fwd/awd for options in media iinterface

The Ray on the trunk area is actually a carryover from the regular Stingrays, it would be cool if they made it blue for the "E-ray"... kind of a funny name in retrospect.

It's not a direct carry-over. They changed the shape a bit, made the tail longer, and hollowed out the "fins".
