I've been a nurse for ten years and I've seen the self fulfilling cycle of mass foreign recruitment multiple times. 1) We don't have enough nurses, it'll take at least 5 or 6 years to train up enough, better employ from abroad. 2) We don't need as many nurses now with all the overseas ones so its all fine. 3)Overseas nurses go home, 4)Oh god! we've got a massive shortage of nurses, it'll take a good 5 or six years to train up enough, better employ from overseas! 5)Oh look, we've got enough nurses now, no need to bother training our own. 6)Repeat It just saddens me because it should be an aspirational enough career with enough funding that we can train and retain homegrown talent. Talent that will choose to stay in (a properly funded) health service most of their working lives. It's so short sighted.

It's a true denigration of the political cycle. No one looks past the next election, so if they can plug a gap now and promise change in the future, they know they will probably never actually be held to account for breaking the promises. The two party system is just as much to blame as well because 100% of a Government gets replaced every time there is a power shift. Imagine we had PR, where coalitions would likely be the norm... you could potentially have long term representation from marginal parties across parliaments that hold the majority to account for their lies and promises.

Look on the bright side. At least it's a bit safer round there now. I used to live in Cliftonville back in about 2008 but had to move out because I didn't feel safe there and found it depressing AF. They were some of shittest years of my life living there. I got burgled twice. Somebody even broke in while I was in but that's a long story. Some kids tried/failed to pickpocket me and, and some poor guy got asaulted and stabbed by a chav gang just accross the road from me. It left a big bloodstain on the pavement that seemed to take an unaturally long time weather away. Prob sounds like I'm exaggerating But I promise I'm not. I could even go on. Don't even get me started on my junkie Trashtown nextdoor neighbors and their shouty alcoholic teenage kids. Last time I stopped off there a few weeks back it seemed much nicer and safer round there. I agree though something needs to be done about people buying up needed accomodation just for Airbnb though. That shit's a blight that's killing communities all over the country and could screw up local economies in the winter. I see it happening in Whitstable down the road from me. As a decorator I used to get called out to so many Airbnbs round there I wondered how many people actually live full time on some streets.

I think it's safe to say you can forget about it. The Tories have... The only ones trying to keep it alive are likely heavily invested in Africa as an emerging market so are just annoyed that their gamble isn't going to pay off as much as they hoped. Labour haven't ruled out using a safe 3rd country for processing - which is generally fine as long as it's genuinely safe, reciprocal and not a one way ticket back to trafficking as the Rwanda plan would be Imagine if our immigration processing centre in France was properly staffed by UK officials, developed a good working relationship with the French border police, installed our own border security on site in France and we cleared the backlog.... Ignoring the massive cost savings, the reduction in death, misery and trafficking would be worth the cost of entry alone - and our combined forces would stand a chance of actually breaking people smuggling rings rather than what happens at the moment (The French border security wave cheery-bye to boats and even encourage them to launch)

@@adam7802 No, they have made lots of foreigner's very rich off the benefit system that's why there isn't any left for british people, bit like when 68000 foreigners come to our unis on UK government grants they bring 48000 family members who claim benefits and help clog up the NHS, then when that 68000 have finished UK uni over 48% get to stay here then they bring the rest of their family's here.. but you keep your mind blinkered like a liebore fool. PS, tories aren't the answer either.

And this how people abuse stats 🥲 Immigration was always going up because we were counting people in a new way, can anyone just think for a second? Like all those that had freedom of movement 😅
