It began with a bang - as Ferrari's Charles Leclerc clouted the barriers early in FP1 - but it ended in beauty, as Leclerc, in his repaired chassis, vaulted to the top of the times in FP2. And so there we have it: on the back of their win at Monza, Ferrari are indeed in the hunt on the Baku street circuit. Red Bull-Honda also looked strong, with 2023 Baku winner, Sergio Perez, finishing the day P2, ahead of Sir Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes and the McLaren-Mercedes of Oscar Piastri. Peter, why haven’t you ever spoken about your championship winning year as head of Williams Racing? Perhaps you should dedicate one of your episodes to discuss how that year was like for you and the team. I’m actually surprised that you’ve never mentioned it. There’s plenty of people who follow you but don’t even know that you’re a championship winning team principal back in the day. Tangentially also talk about what happened thereafter with US F1. This would be interesting to hear about firsthand.

You’re wrong. That was a different role at a completely different team. Windsor is a championship winning team manager. There’s a reason he was going to spearhead the US F1 project. A marketing manager doesn’t get such opportunities in F1.

I personally also think Max is now a bit pissed and emotional. He kept saying the drama did not affect the team and yet it did. In Monza he even asked if ppl could do their jobs and focus, which probably is not helping him getting focussed

He said that cuz they had an engine problem and had to run it more conservatively, they did not inform him he could run bit harder... Hence the sleeping in the background

You'd be annoyed if you were F1's personal punching bag too. Triple world champion and all people do is criticise him, whether he's winning or losing, happy or annoyed. Even Newey talked about it in the High Performance podcast. Several drivers got annoyed today. Stroll, Leclerc, Norris post practice etc.

I was looking for this comment. I was also shocked to hear that Checo had sought the aid of Rob after we've heard Peter banging on about it for the last three years. I do wonder what can be achieved in the space of a couple days, but it was very interesting to hear Checo admitting for the first time this weekend that his driving style has disadvantages to Max's. Now I think I know why. I will be looking out for a marked improvement in his cornering, and if Rob has made a difference (TBD, look how long and how many errors it has taken Checo to seek outside help), I hope that coaching catches on throughout the paddock.

It seems to me that all the Mercedes powered cars are really good in S3 , which would indicate to me that they have really good energy deployment and acceleration through that sector . It could be down to how much they had their engines turned up , but it’s an interesting trend.

All of Max lost time was in sector 3 straight with a detuned old engine, he was fastest in first and second sectors and Checo was 2nd fastest even matching Verstappens sector imes.

I'm starting to detect some bias in Windsor's commentary. He seems to go out of his way to mention the best moments of some drivers and omit their worst, and do the opppsite on other drivers. The reason I like his commentary is that it's usually free of that kind of bias.

@@Eriksen-wp3tv In the past when Max was dominating, perhaps. But that wasn't bias as much as just the reality at that time that he was the gold standard. These days he's actively making excuses for Lando's mistakes, attacking Mclaren, Piastri etc. And boy, if he is biased towards Max, I don't know why he unleashed a braking conspiracy against him on Twitter, which has spread like wildfire online, despite the FIA saying no cars were running this magic brake system before the slight rule adjustment. All the Max haters are all over the internet now declaring that if Max holds onto the title it will be because of the magic brakes. Every year Max wins these people find a way to try and delegitamise it and Peters twitter brake conspiracy was *catnip* for these people.

F1TV hosts also said Lando couldn't get in a high speed run like, I think they said he was "inconvenienced",I don't know, it was no one's fault but sure it is. That he put in one lap does not ruin a practice session, some people definitely failed because he didn't put in a serious lap.

why are redbull using a high downforce rear wing instead of meduim downforce rear wing on max's car , max is losing five whole tenths in the last sector because of huge straightline speed deficit , is it because of tyre degradation ???
