People are missing the point of this car. It's like saying you can fit less stuff in a Gucci handbag than in a gym bag so it's worse somehow - it's supposed to be small, stylish and expensive, not practical.

Nice city/urban choice as a 2nd car with the option to go on some longer drives as long as there are charging stations along the route. I have been running a 2016 Chevy Spark EV for the last 4 years, which is marginally longer but has 4 doors to a more accessible rear seats that can house adults for shorter trips. The Sparks epa range is only 82 miles on it's 19kW battery, but for my uses it's sufficient. What I really enjoy is it's 0-60 less than 8secs which is a true grin generator as you leave typical traffic behind so while the 500e has more update features I'd still want a quicker car. GM was ahead of the curve with the Spark EV and especially the 2nd gen Volt. Waiting on the Kia EV3 as it seems to be a nice step up from bothe the Spark EV , both gen Leafs and the 500e.

This is a nice car for the young female buyer under age 30 that historically bought a VW Beetle or maybe even a base Audi TT. The “cute” factor is there so way better than a base Tesla model 3 which are now so common ghetto people are driving them and they have crash damage, covered in dirt, and some always use paper tags to avoid paying for registration or insurance. Lease payments are not too bad for what it is and no, this is not some car you buy at age 25, take out of daily service by 35, keep in garage as weekend car for the next 30 years, and then drive around during retirement to find that feeling young experience when driving it. It is best leased and the second owner may get use out of it until it hits 8-10 years old.

The form factor is nice, small cars are nice but The older electric 500's had very short lived batteries with no practical replacement options. The idea of having to toss away an entire car because a battery died is anti-consumer in the extreme.
@2.3_44XD--3 күн бұрын
There are garages all over the world that could take the old battery out and install a better one easily. They are doing it with old Nissan leafs and other cars. But EVs are now suffering a anti EV campaign plus the bad management from the car makers don't let these old crappy range cars become better.
@mbox3143 күн бұрын
@2.3_44XD-- I hope you are correct, I watched the Episode of hovies gararge where they fixed an electric 500 with some "arts and crafts" hack from a 3rd party. I also considered buying a Mitsubishi I miev as a 2nd car until I found out a replacement battery is only made by a single mom and pop 3rd party and costs $10,000. Having a decade old car depend on a hacked solution from a non OEM is too much of an enthusiast move for me. I really hope there is some standardization and open sourcing of batteries because they are really posioning the EV waters.
