After driving its rivals, I will say the Honda Civic SI is outclassed in several areas, but when it comes to well-rounded fun at an attainable price, it's the best. Today, I'll show you why that is and how it competes with the VW GTI, Jetta GLI, Hyundai Elantra N, Subaru WRX and more.
Thank you, Royal South Toyota, for letting me test drive this lightly used SI!

I feel like the car is appropriate for the money. It’s a great alternative to a Type R if you’re on a budget and want a more sportier driving experience than the regular civics. I think the power is adequate for what it is. I think Honda assume people buying this is going to be commuting but wanted a more fun commuting experience.

I traded in my ‘22 Civic SI for a ‘24 GLI 40th, only because I drove the piss out of the civic in my 1.5 years of ownership (40k+ miles) and took a remote job so wanted something fresh in the garage. While the Jetta has a descent bump in power, the civic trumps it just about everywhere else. Interior is of better quality, handles better, rev match is brilliant with a perfect shift every time, hill start assist is ‘intelligent’ and releases brakes when clutch is engaged (Jetta is about a 2 second hold no matter the scenario - which coincidentally makes taking off on a steep hill about 10x more difficult) brake hold button (keeps the brakes held whenever you come to a stop - think drive thru or sitting in stop and go traffic. Once you come to a stop and put in neutral it will automatically hold until you take off again, without having to pull / release park brake over and over again), BOSE audio system is phenomenal & underrated in my opinion - by far the best quality sound system I’ve heard in a vehicle.. plus it looks awesome and averaged 33 MPG on WV country roads. Some complaints - rev hang is frustrating, especially when rowing through the gears My ‘22 had the sticky steering at highway speeds but apparently that’s been addressed Paint is soft as baby shit. Definitely suggest getting a paint protection film on front bumper / hood for rock chips 200HP engine leaves you wanting more

Thank you, man, just for voicing what many people think in the first 2 mins. Have the same exact color with blacked out emblems , and yes at MSRP and love it. Frankly, at city and highway speeds I couldn't even justify this powertrain as I have to restrain myself and not sure if extra power is more track suited than practical.

Copped my SonicGreyPearl FE1 11th gen Si last yeat June, and it's been the best all-round enthusiast car I've ever owned and first brand new car and I'm glad i got this over say the Elantra N. Extra points: got the canadian spec with full digital cluster, fog lights, front rear heates seats, heated steering wheel, wireless charging. Below $40K, it's the most practical enthusiast car that has an LSD that makes carving those Ontario backroads pleasantly.

I had a ‘22. It was very nice and quite enjoyable. It was way underpowered, but its suspension was sharp. The shifter was butter, and the fuel economy was beyond impressive; I consistently got 37/38 mpg’s. I got a crazy offer from a dealer a year ago and decided to part ways with the Si. I’m now in a ‘13 wrx that I bought off my college buddy, who was the original owner and kept it all stock. I definitely miss the Si at times, and if my wrx dies someday , maybe I’ll buy an Si again.

Remember this: Honda's 2.0 turbo was designed from the ground-up for performance (strengthened internals, etc.). The 1.5 Turbo was designed from the ground up for economy (low-friction components, including connecting rods, pistons etc.) . When you push more horsepower out of the 1.5 Turbo, it comes at a cost - longevity vs the 2.0 turbo.

We had an '18 SI that was a wonderful car and I was getting 35-37mpg mixed driving. However, it had MAJOR oil dilution issues (well over the oil full line after only 1-2k driving) even though we live in Arizona, I never drove it hard and I drove a lot on the highway to get the oil temp up. When I called Honda, they said unless the car was stalling or having warning lights, they weren't going to help out. It was very disappointing to hear since I really loved the car otherwise. Hopefully this is not a big issue with the 11th gen SI.

Ouch, that's quite unfortunate and it's especially frustrating to hear a response like that from Honda. Great review man, I'm looking at getting one of tbese in the next few weeks and im excited. Just a quick rant though - i hate and find it so annoying whrn review videos say that "200 hp isnt fast." Since when? Its so annoying because reviewers test all kinds of cars and yes obviously the civic si wont be as fast as a bmw m5 or a porsche 911, but why do people pretend 200 hp is something to scoff at and is considered slow? Put someone in a nissan versa with 130 hp and they wont be able to tell how "slow" it is. Idk, idk if that makes sense, just annoying. Its even worse in moyorcycle review videos
@Realistick
@Realistick 2 ай бұрын
It’s definitely a car to be excited about so here’s my preemptive congrats 🎉. It can get annoying when people get fixated on 200 hp when the car is just 30k, but before slamming some reviews, remember that it is a sport sedan. People are going to be critical over the performance. If the article/video finishes and they say it’s too slow to compete, THEN id say it’s bs. After all, the SI isn’t about numbers, it’s about abundant yet sensible fun!
@IamSeasons562
@IamSeasons562 2 ай бұрын
@@Realistick i understand, being marketed as a "sports" sedan/car definitely has its implications. I currently have an 04 is300 and have had it for over 10 years. It has ~217 hp (probably less since cars lose power as they get older) and it feels fast enough for me, faster than pretty much any other normal car on the road, so for me ~17 less horsepower is not going to make me think im riding a snail, if that makes sense. I just think that people are too obsessed with numbers on paper, as you stated in the review

It definitely needs some updates, a little more horsepower 230 would be enough to make it where it should be, and keep the type R owners happy, how much would it cost to put driving lights in they get them in Canada, heated seats would be a nice touch by the way, that’s how it is in Canada and keep the price about where it’s at but for the kind of money they’re asking you can get a lot more car is it a better car maybe not but how many people keep a car 10 years if you’re only keeping a car 3 to 5 years any car out there we go that long. I looked at SI and Just was not impressed with the performance. the shifter was suspension felt good and handling. Although now on the forums, I hear they have some kind of issue with their steering box not sure why everybody’s trying to make less power and the other companies that aren’t afraid of more power I think we’re gonna win. Test drove a Kia k5 GT which out the door was 2k more and although not a fan of Kia cars it was very impressive interior, features, and 290hp. Would Honda be better long term yea I would think but if your getting a new car every 3-5 years it doesn’t matter :)

Not sure if they're still marking up the Si still but i think the Elantra N is the sport sedan king without a doubt. 90% performance of a Type R at 10k less. I would argue more fun than the Type R. The Si is just a Civic sport+ to be honest with some parts borrowed from the Type R. The Si is a far cry from what it used be. Having owned one, it's just not a special or value forward car like it once was.

Yes, the Si’s are selling here in Seattle around $3-5k markups while the Integra is selling at msrp. I know because I was looking at Si before I just bought the Integra instead. The interior of the Integra compared to the Si is worth it plus the els 3d studio alone trumps the Bose in Si.

Bro kept mentioning the sti, the wrx is ugly asf. Sounds good but not a good looking car compared to the previous models. In this class of compact cars the civic is the best looking, and is a great platform for a fun modded car. You can make the si very very quick, with just 3k. It truly is the most practical enthusiast car, it’s affordable and i believe when inflation settles a little they’ll be in the high 30s

Just sold my 2019 SI that I bought new. It had a sublime shifter. I drove a new Civic Sport Touring manual. I was disappointed. The shifter was real tall and shifted so bulky, so un Honda like. I’ve had many Honda’s/ Acura's and it was always a great shifter. Was the shifter on this new SI ok? They didn’t have any SI's at any dealers near me. I may be rethinking buying a Honda. ✌️

Honda really needs to give this car more power if it’s going to sell it for $30k+. It’s close in price to the WRX…more so than in years past. It’s also pretty close to the Elantra N. The value proposition isn’t there anymore.
@Realistick
@Realistick 29 күн бұрын
I hear that but it is like 4 grand away from the Elantra N. The Elantra is much more entertaining to push hard but I still think this is a better daily and it’s much more fun than the WRX. It’s not always about power! Each of those are better in its own ways but it doesn’t need more power to have its own stronghold in the market imho
@enmass90
@enmass90 29 күн бұрын
@@Realistick I’m not suggesting that Honda needs to give it a ton more power. But even the kind of power bump that the BRZ got absolutely transformed that car. I’m mostly talking about the power levels that can be achieved with an OTS stage 1 Hondata or Ktuner map. Except from the factory so warranty doesn’t get burned. I also disagree that this Si is more fun than the current WRX. Last generation was no question, the VA’s awful factory tune made the 10th gen Si objectively more fun to drive. But now that Subaru figured out how to properly tune a car without ridiculous rev hang, I would argue that the VB is the better car.
@Realistick
@Realistick 29 күн бұрын
@@enmass90 A BR-Z powerbump could be nice, though the BR-Z also needed to fix its torque dip, something the SI doesn’t really struggle with. If all you care about is speed, sure, the wrx is more fun but the SI’s gearbox and steering are in a different league and I would much prefer to drive the SI on a nice road than the subie! Rev hang fix was nice but the drivetrain shock needs to be addressed too.
