Not a bad list of impressions, most of which tally with my own. Now 6 x weeks and 2800 kms (about 1700 miles) into Transalp ownership, here in South Australia, and I am liking it more as I accustomise to it, and make a few adjustments. I should add that I worked on motorcycles for over 50 years. The first change I urge you to try, as I think you will like it, and you are almost the exact same height as I am. The (4") handlebar risers are actually offset at the handlebar end, most of which are delivered in the rearwards position, as mine were. That is, the 'bars are back more towards the rider of the two optional positions, possibly for shorter people with short arms. But they feel MUCH better with them in the forward position, and I urge you to invest 10 minutes into reversing them. (Crack the nuts under them before you remove the 'bars, with care and a socket extension). They make the steering feel a bit odd the way they are delivered, as if they are too far behind the steering pivot. Reversing them made me much happier, now about 20 mms forward of where they were, and in a better relationship to the steering.. The rear rack you mention was also something I considered removing, as I intend making my own. I rarely take a passenger, and hopefully if I do it will be a girl, who will hang onto me... But the thing is - the stock rack is 7 kgs! That is, 15 lbs, or over a stone! Too much, for a bike intentionally made lightweight, which was a large part of why I bought it ahead of the equivalent Suzuki. The heavy rack never went back on, and my Honda now weighs less than either the T7 or the (rather tasty) Aprilia Tuareg. I anticipate my replacement will weigh less than a kilogram (2.2 lbs). So with a bit of fiddling, this bike has more to give those of us who took a chance on it, as an 'unknown quantity'. The lack of heat on the legs also places it ahead of its rivals, at least in that respect. Tyres next, and a bash plate to protect that vulnerable undercarriage. (A shame that will add some weight, as I am a bit obsessed with lightness). Then a bit of a look into the front forks. The rear shock will probably get replaced at some point, but as you observed - the suspension as delivered isn't too bad for the price. Thanks for your impressions, from Nevada. I was there back in the '80s. I might have to get a Go Pro and give this Vlogging lark a go, rather than writing long sermons under other people's!

very thorough and thanks for the run down. The problem with accessories like skids, bars is there aren't any out there. I finally ordered mine - Hepco/Becker and now I wait. looking forward to how you make changes on your TA,

I'm with you on the bird beak thing look and if I am really going to pack a bunch of mud up in the fender like a dirt bike I will just take my dirt bike to those places and I don't like how those high fenders catch all that air when I get up to speed. Great video!

Front suspension is adjustable for preload and US spec bikes only get 83hp.

Pre load is not really adjustability like what we are use to. I’ve heard it’s lower hp but I haven’t seen that confirmed yet.

The BDR from Beatty to Scotty’s Castle. I can’t find it. Does it end because of death Valley national Park?
