100% agree, but a shame either way. They bring out brilliant looking cars but I cannot bring myself to being stuck to 10K intervals. FYI that review you had on the Sonata was excellent. Came very close to getting one. That thing looks unbelievably good !! But that service intervals is an issue (I do quite a few kms per year). Anyway great channel Matt.

The new fuel efficiency number for the i30 series is a huge step forward, also proofing that Hyundai and KIA used to offer rubbish transmission for Australia.

I used to drive i30’s in a work fleet. The new version is a much more pleasant looking car. I drive an EV so hybrids aren’t my thing, and I wonder at the 6 speed gearbox fitted to the i30 hybrid. If I was in the market for one or had access to an i30 work fleet I guess I’d choose the hybrid. The turbo engine would be the way to go. The road noise isn’t great, that’s for sure, but for the money they seem to a great car. The internal layout looks pleasant and comfortable. Great review as always.

Hi Matt, really like your review! Though I'm wondering which has better value - entry level Hyundai i30 or Mg5 Essence, since they are the same price as 29k?
@therightcar8 ай бұрын
Great thought. I guess you might want to get your crystal ball out, as I think the resale value will be the main consideration. Sure, you get more warranty with the MG, but you get more safety technology in the i30, and a more reputable brand name.
@nicholasmatthews59896 ай бұрын
8th Jan, 2024; There is a lot lacking with the MG5 Essence. Only has tilt adjustment steering wheel; no reach adjustment, the whole rear seat folds down as one piece; does not have 60:40 split, boot is 401 litres vs i30 474 litres, comes with spare saver tyre vs i30 full size spare tyre, only has standard cruise control vs i30 adaptive cruise control, the i30 base has numerous safety features that the MG5 Essence does not have. Currently the MG5 Essence is $28,990 drive-away whilst the i30 base sedan is $31,990 drive-away. I would try to find the extra $3,000 to buy the i30. Another alternative that I would have over the MG5 Essence would be the Kia Cerato S sedan (although it only has steel wheels) with the Safety Pack, currently $30,290 drive-away. Cheers.

A really good review Matt keep up the good work 👍. however you make the same mistake I think all motoring journalists make. Please Stop complaining about the service intervals. As an independent mechanic in Melbourne with nearly 15 years experience this is a big bear of mine when reviews complain about service intervals. I spend a lot time fixing problems that could be avoided because people push the service schedule further than they should. Australia has some really harsh conditions for cars & that means we need to service them correctly which is often more than most people think. Also all these capped price or pre-paid plans are just marketing BS. They don’t cover everything I do know as I have customers who have had these plans before and been told certain items are not covered & are extra costs.
@therightcar8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment mate. I hear you. I know plenty of people who swear by servicing on a far more regular basis, but the reality for a lot of people is that they abide by the recommended schedule stipulated by the brand, to stay in line for warranty cover and so forth.

Gotta say, I'm very impressed with the design of the front and rear lights, but would hate to fathom a guess what a replacement would cost, considering a standard front headlight on a Subaru WRX is $3,000 new from factory.

The styling update of the front is an improvement, but I just can't do that rear end, it's completely over styled and just looks ridiculous in my opinion! This is another car that would've looked better and been more practical if it had been a liftback, but then we would've kept the original i30 liftback (sorry Fastback)! If only the original i30 fastback was available in lower base specs or mirrored the i30 hatchback trim specs? The interior in the base spec is dreary and with a CVT, it's a no from me. The hybrid might be the best option in the lower specs? This car doesn't deserve the 'i30' name, Hyundai Australia should've kept it as Elantra. I can see this turning into another Sonata (YF) to i45 and then back to Sonata nonsense. At least now with 2024 i30 hatchbacks coming from Czechia this time round, I wonder if there'll be a chance the i30 wagon will make the trip over? I doubt it though ....
@therightcar8 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be betting my house on the wagon making a return, that's for sure...
@pauld65568 ай бұрын
The only reason this car took the i30 name was to make it look good in sales reports. Elantra was a dying car. This is far from an i30. Hatch and sedan siblings share many similarities and the point of difference is the backside. This is zero with its hatch sister with all aspects other than the motor.
@waynehobbs51757 ай бұрын
Same can be said for Corolla and Mazda 3 which both offer sedan and hatches that have many different panels.

No safety rating for this version so it is not possible to use for uber etc. Thats a shame because I can imagine with the hybrid fuel efficiency more uber drivers would consider it as a camry or corolla alternative at less of an upfront cost. Maybe it's time for ANCAP to pull their finger out and rate it 5 stars because with all the added safety tech surely that's what it would be rated just like the older generation of i30. Hyundai would probably get a lot more sales if it was officially ANCAP rated.

I really want the NLine version, so I have to wait. Please test the NLine when it arrives. One thing I don't understand is why electronic seats are not included in the lower grade. Indeed, the fact that once you switch them they still come back on would be infuriating. The X-Trail I have at least allows to switch off the obtrusive safety nannies save for lane departure warning which can't be fully switched off without giving you the warning on the dash board , that said you can put it into the lowest less mode and it only comes on if you do something really stupid That's why I'm loving the old AU Falcon I am right now while my car get repaired due to being hit by a dumb L playter who was on her phone and not paying attention (ai kid you not), no nannies other than ABS which is a passive system, also loving listening to all my ol cassette audio music from the 80's and 90's and the CD-R I made in the 200's.
