Hey gene was just about to DM you but I’m having trouble logging into Instagram and I wanted to reach out before I go to bed. That project I contacted you about is on hold for now but I appreciate you getting back to me. Had some things come up that are taking priority right now. Will reach out again if things change. Thanks again!

Didn't even see that lift until after I uploaded this video. Would've definitely included him. There's a handful of guys who are doing 50KG MUs now though.

Yo mad respect! I love weighted pull ups and think street lifting is awesome but damn why do they hardly get their chin to the bar. Not trying to take away from the sport but almost all street lifting competition pull ups I see I wouldn’t consider a rep. They always poke the chin up in a kipping like motion and it’s not even above the bar. It takes away from the aesthetics of the movement. Similar to above parallel squats.
@StrengthGene6 ай бұрын
If it’s not above the bar, it wouldn’t count. What you see in this video is training form and wouldn’t count for the kicking either. For USA Streetlifting, chin has to be above the bar vertically and across the bar horizontally for it to count. For Final Rep, chin has to be above the bar vertically. For ISF, the chin rule is that the face has to look directly straight ahead and not gooseneck and cross the bar horizontally and vertically, something you probably consider as a good rep. This is also known as a “locked” pull. You hardly get any notable lifts with worthy numbers using this style of pulling but it is an easy form to judge. Just know you’re probably gonna subtract 10-15KG in their 1RMs doing this excessive chin clearance. Even top pullers have a hard time locking 110KG+

I wanted to LOVE Streetlifting. But it's so sad to see that this style of competition invariably leads to cringe-inducing ROM-shaving form that justifies itself by reminding us that they're obeying the bare-minimum standards they invented themselves. At least the Endurance Calisthenics guys still have beautiful, full-ROM form. I think it's time to unsubscribe from Strength Gene, and start following Max True, Bruno Zgela, and Sergio Di Pasquale full-time.
@StrengthGene5 ай бұрын
Lol all those guys you mentioned will stick with the bare minimum ROM in order to complete the routine first. Look at their squats and dips in the calisthenics cup routine. There's no ATG or shoulder to bar there. You're just following someone else who does the same bare minimum range of motion. There's no advantage to doing excessive ROM in competition if you're trying to win. See ya.
@sensam61555 ай бұрын
@@StrengthGene Oh they were 100% quarter repping their squats. But their pullups were legit (instead of finishing with a swing and a giraffe-impersonation), the muscle-ups didn't start with a 3-foot wind-up swing, and their dips were dips - not crunches with an isometric support hold. "There's no advantage to doing excessive ROM in competition if you're trying to win" That's the reason why Streetlifting is sadly a futile sport. I still think weighted dips, weighted pullups, and weighted muscle-ups are super cool, super sick, and potentially the best way to train the upper body. But it seems that once the goal becomes maximum weight, the honesty of the movement is completely lost. It's like the difference between how powerlifters squat and how olympic lifters squat. Powerlifters use a technique that maximizes how much weight you can lift, oly lifters use a technique that maximizes how much usable strength you attain from the exercise. Or how powerlifters basterdized bench pressing, turning into a neck bridge paired with hip extension. Or how powerlifters bastardized deadlifting, inventing sumo - which allows for maximum weight with minimal gains. That's the problem - Streetlifting is making all the same mistakes that Powerlifting did.
@StrengthGene5 ай бұрын
Good points but "But their pullups were legit (instead of finishing with a swing and a giraffe-impersonation)," Based on my observations, they are also looking up and trying to impersonate a giraffe too. And in my comps, you would get no repped if you try to start with a swing. "muscle-ups didn't start with a 3-foot wind-up swing" Neither does streetlifting, show me a competition world record with that level of swing. In fact, the heaviest muscle up in comp (51kg) done by Pere Coll with even less swing than these endurance muscle ups. "their dips were dips - not crunches with an isometric support hold" Ever heard of hip depth rule? That description of a dip would get no repped.
@sensam61555 ай бұрын
@@StrengthGene First off, I can appreciate you trying to defend their form, especially when this sport is the whole point of your channel. But even you have to feel the cognitive dissonance. The swing I was referring was to finish the pullup, when they get stuck 3 inches below and kip the final 2 inches, the way Zlat does on every max effort attempt. The hip depth rule is a step in the right direction, but it's like trying to put out a house fire with a bucket. Pere Coll is a wonderful breathe of fresh air, most of his reps are NOT the ones I've criticizing. Most of the reps you showed in this video are what I'm criticizin (minus Uliana, she's legit). And I think you're focusing too much on SL vs Endurance. The point should be "the reps you see in SL" vs "the types of reps that build real-world usable strength and muscle". If a jiujitsu athlete wanted to build strength for grappling, I'd recommend weighted dips and pullups; but they would look different than what we saw here. When a professional rock climber does weighted pullups, they look different than what we see here. If a guy wanted to build serious pecs, I'd recommend weighted dips, but not like the ones we see here. I hope you get my point.

"The swing I was referring was to finish the pullup, when they get stuck 3 inches below and kip the final 2 inches, the way Zlat does on every max effort attempt." Again, it's training form and would not count in competition. "The hip depth rule is a step in the right direction, but it's like trying to put out a house fire with a bucket. " The alternative besides hip depth would be to make sure the shoulders and hips descend at same speed which is impossible to judge in real-time. And if you think 'why not use replays?' using replays would immensely slow the competition flow down when you have 50+ athletes going in one day. There's a lot of factors you don't consider and you only have a surface level analysis. "And I think you're focusing too much on SL vs Endurance" They are not the same forms. There's different types of compensations both types of athletes do to increase their weight/reps. Both rock climbers and jiu jitsu athletes have major imbalances in their pulls and dips because it's an asymmetrical sport lol. Both bad form. "If a guy wanted to build serious pecs, I'd recommend weighted dips, but not like the ones we see here. I hope you get my point." Sure. The form should be adjusted for its purpose. Here, the purpose is to lift maximal weight within a rulebook.
