@@dr.z8378 We are living in upside down clown world. The fake Supra purists claim that it has to be an i6 but Nissan proved that a V6TT was just as good in the GTR. Shame Toyota couldn't build their own sports car and went with a franchise license...😂

@@fanovaohsmuts The new Supra is basically a Z4, and much of the interior is shared with the Z4. It has iDrive ffs. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's a good car, but saying that they had "some platform sharing with BMW" is just wrong. It's damn close to being a rebodied Z4. That being said, it's still a Toyota. Parts sharing is completely fine, and Toyota making a new Supra all by themselves would've had far higher development costs, and they sure as shit wouldn't break even. We got a new Supra, and it's reasonably priced because it didn't cost all that much to develop. It's not a BMW, it's a Toyota. A Toyota Z4, maybe, but a Toyota.

The drivetrain is not the issue in a lot of lotuses, it’s the electrical components.

@@T6travels That’s the case with a lot of cars. Often times, the engines and transmissions are pretty decent. But the computers they rely on are the weak point.

@Tytheskater247 As an Exige and Evora S owner.... zero issues with electrical or drive train components. Electrical issues were problems that the older Lotus' had. And now that reputation has stuck with Lotus, but it's not warranted on their newer stuff.

I'm surprised this car isn't getting more hype. Supercharged V6 with Toyota reliability that sounds amazing, well done manual transmission, good interior, and you can FEEL something through the chassis. Here's a real enthusiast sports car and it's practically forgotten already. Sure it's not the fastest thing around, but it's more than fast enough. Who else is doing stuff like this? Porsche? That's all I can think of.

This is a genuine driver’s car, and the driver pays a price in giving up the comforts Americans expect, even in performance cars. Only a sports car purist who insists on a manual transmission will want this car, and most of those guys are boomers in their seventies. No future there. Trying to be positive, the driver describes how comfortable it is at highway speeds, but he himself can maintain them for only a few seconds. Most Americans want far more size and acceleration, and MUST have an automatic, which IMO is their loss. (But then, how many millennials know how to shift stick?) Ninety-five percent of Americans will buy a C8 and save $30k, plus have the driving experience they grew up with, only with lots more power in tap. In this country it’s all about straight line acceleration and loafing around the corners.

I think the emira seems to be a better car in almost every measurable way, but I am very partial to the unique exterior look of the Evora GT. The Emira is incredibly beautiful to any eye, but I find modern lotus styling a bit more generic than prior years. The Evora looks more unique and it's been my dream car for a decade now so im just partial to it.

I agree that I believe this will sell well. It will appeal I think most to people who are in the Porsche market but want to be unique. However, I disagree with this as a return to roots. The roots of Lotus are "simplify, add lightness". This car is both more complicated (infotainment, better build quality etc.) and heavier (in fact heavier than the cayman). I understand the sentiment, and I am actually fully in favor of this direction for Lotus, but I would not argue it as a return.

Much better than an SUV, yes. This car at 3100 lbs is not alignment to Colin Chapman's obsession with lower weight. The car looks very nice and well built, but I would've personally preferred a car with 100 less horsepower and 500+ pounds lighter. But then again I drive Miatas ;P

People talk about how multi million dollar supercars are their dream cars... No this is it. Pure driving JOY, reliable, and at a price point where taking it out of the garage isnt a heart attack waiting to happen. The blue spec with yellow calipers is a dream of mine to own someday

Best video online I’ve seen for the Emira driving experience. Sound quality is superb, and no talking or yelling with excitement when accelerating. Just a perfect amount of narration, and plenty of 2nd gear runs to redline, which is probably the sweet spot for public roads, especially with the taller gears. Great job, loved the experience, now I have to go sell my right arm to get one.

Topher nailed the review! People think Lotus are raw and harsh but it's actually raw but very compliant. Which makes it a perfect car on the road, you can feel everything from steering and car is extremely communicative yet suspension is soft and rides so much better than German cars. The reason is simple if you think about it - Brirish B roads are like Midwestern farm roads, not paved well and tight, yet twisty. German roads are amazingly well paved and built by the books. Emira, Evora and non-CUP Exige/Elise are probably most fun you will have on twisty winding roads with imperfections (which are most winding road), it will blow away most modern sports car with stiff suspension setup and untalkative electronic steering

That is only if purchasing the Emira Touring. The Sport version is rigid and very unforgiving on roads in Europe.

This thing looks like an absolute joy to drive, just a straight-forward pure drivers car the way most current cars aren’t. Seems so rev-happy… love the way the engine sounds, especially when revving it out or blipping the throttle. Also the interior looks so good! simple, classic, driver-centric, but with some modern touches… most cars are just too complicated/cluttered/busy nowadays, this is so refreshing. Manual would for sure be the way to go with it, looks like it would be highly rewarding to shift your own gears in this car.

I bought a 1990 Miata new, and I lust for the Emira like I have never lusted for a super car. IMO, it is the Miata of super cars: laser-focused on an enjoyable driving experience, minimal, economical (relatively), and beautiful. And the needlessly cool things, like the exposed shift linkage and throttle actuator. Like with the Miata, that's a brilliant accomplishment. Even if I never own one, I'm happy that it exists.

I like the new Emira also, but it doesn't have the open air experience and light weight feel of a Miata. But it sure looks good.

I wouldn't say it's a super car, but definitely has the characteristics that the maita focuses on. Light weight (relatively) and agile. Kinda wish it's lighter though. 3100 pounds is a kinda heavy.

After owning countless of sports cars from Miata all the way to Ferraris, Lotus Emira is tied with 981 Cayman GTS as best daily drivable sports car I have ever driven, I actually don't know which is better but I made it simple for myself, if Manual it's Emira if Auto it's Cayman..... Both transmissions gave me lots of emotions, might sound stupid for the PDK but trust me that PDK in 981 GTS have 3 characters it's amazing!

I can't believe that you are comparing 981 to Emira. 981.1 has THE WORST steering feedback that I've felt. Sure, chassis is predictable at limit, but steering feels like you are driving on a ice with 0 feedback.

@@racesueyI agree, the early cars and their early EPS systems were Cadillac Eldorado light with no feel. I owned a 2014 Cayman S and while it generally did everything well the car was boring overall. Lotus steering alone would make me choose it

Agree with both of you that it's a great car but I agree with James that car is boring. My experience with them is that I'd take Prosche if I want to chase laptime at track or love the engine. But any other scenario, for fun, Id take Emira/Evora

“Wonky door seals”… yup, it’s a Lotus alright. I had two evoras (a 2014 s and a 2020 GT), both leaked water constantly from said seals, in even the most minimal rain… I miss the way they drove (a little) but not the constant series of problems they both had the entire time a had them. I can’t do it again 😢

Such a gorgeous car! Just love the proportions! I also love of the sound of that supercharged Toyota V6 as well! If I was in the correct tax bracket, I would be hard pressed to choose between this or the Corvette E-Ray.

that is a very pretty interior. And I actually quite like the gauge cluster as well! Sounds great, looks great, won't be able to afford it for a long while but oh well I'll enjoy looking at it lol

I agree, the interior is very nice with good materials quality and fit, however, I hate the gauges. I like analog gauges, and no screen can replace that. Oh well, I know there's no going back

@@hakeemsd70m I do also love analog gauges but I also love digital gauges when done right. It’s one of my favorite things about my Audi, although Audi’s analog gauge design was pretty fantastic as well and I do miss it. A brand that comes to mind is Alfa Romeo. Their analog gauges are absolutely gorgeous and seeing relatively uninspiring digital gauges in their new crossover (the Tonale I think it’s called) was disappointing

I effing LOVED this drive!! A friend of mine has an Evora and we hit the mountain sweepers with a group of folks. That thing sounds lovely when he gets on it. Who knew Toyota did supercharged V6 engines?! Your shifting was pitch freaking perfect. Thanks for posting, now I need to take a spirited drive! (…although I can’t because it’s 39 degrees out and these PS4S’ ain’t having it!) 😅😂

Nov 2023 - Great vid thanks mate. Recently I drove an NC Mx5 2000km (1200miles?) on a return, highway mission between two cities in Australia. With NC headphones on for most of the drive it was not just OK, it was a frikkin lovely experience. Had one of the last Elises imported into the US a number of years back. It was the quintessential sports car. Completely raw, loud, bumpy, hard to get into. Wife and I would take it to dinner and the valets would leave it parked out front over the Italians, just because it looked expensive (it wasn't). Best canyon carver I've ever owned or driven.

Secor Lotus in CT sold a new 2014 Evora S in 2021. It sat in their showroom for 7 years. Emira may follow suit.

Wiping your rubber seals off with a chamois as well as the door jams, regularly, can keep the rubber hydrated and less prone to sticking and deformation.

Prior to purchasing our C8 Stingray the Emira was on my short list of new cars to add to the stable. It is just a beautiful car. The down check for me had nothing to do with performance metrics. I wanted to own the last of Lotus's gas-powered vehicle before transitioning to electric power. Personally, I had hoped Lotus's swan song engine would be built in house. After all Lotus is the company that built the engine in our Corvette C4 ZR1. Legendary!

The toyota 2grfe is a solid engine. Intake+exhaust+e85+tune and he'll be running deep 10s. Maybe a 9.8/9.9 with some super sticky tires.

Those vents offset from the center console is driving my OCD as crazy as the strange 6% tilt of the infotainment screen on all of Merc's C-Class and GLC-Class vehicles. 😵‍💫

This is way closer to what I’d hoped Honda would do with the 2nd gen NSX. Simpler, lighter, less digital. Less expensive.

2nd Gen NSX would have been way more expensive than this Emira, unless they made it the size of a GR Supra. I did like what Honda came out with, the NSX Type-S is one of my dream cars. Now, the Emira is too.
