It’s out with the old and in with the new, as Mazda has just introduced the 2024 CX-90 three-row SUV as the automaker's new flagship vehicle. The CX-90 ushers in an all-new all-wheel-drive platform (with a bias toward the rear wheels) along with new powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid. Plus, you'll find a completely revamped design inside and out. It’s also been pushed decidedly more upscale, as Mazda continues its mission to be a more premium brand. So, how does the CX-90 build upon its already nice predecessor, the CX-9? Join Edmunds’ Lauren McCay for our first look at the 2024 Mazda CX-90 in the video above!

How do you think the CX-90 will stack up against heavy-hitter rivals Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Honda Pilot? Let us know in the comments below.

it won't do SH*T because the other cars are bigger especially in the third row..... no joke! and the tech in the MAZDA is bad! no lane centering.... no true highway assist driving features.... HUGE HUGE LET DOWN! then let's not forget that atrocious chrome trim interior.... WTF! what happens when sun hits those spots.... also then that BOSE SYSTEM.... smh.... I hope it's a bose speaker system that Porsche also sources if its from the CX30, 50 etc. then you're in for a huge let down when it comes time to listen to music....

I think it will deepen it's hold on it's niche customer base. So not really a direct competitor, but probably the one I'd have, because I like the drive.

I think it won't sell well which is a shame because they did so much right. Mazda seems to have made the same mistake they did with the CX9. They made the best looking and driving car in its class but also made the least practical car in the class. Practicality is the most important thing for family crossovers and having a worse third row than the Pilot, Palisade, and Telluride and what appears to be inferior cargo space will consign it again to also ran status. Just like how the CX5 is the best driving car in its class but gets killed in sales by the CRV and RAV4 which offer close to 10 cubic feet of extra cargo room. Heck the current CRV has more space behind the second row than the outgoing CX9 which really shows how poor a job Mazda does in making efficient use of space. I think if you only need two rows than the CX90 is worth considering but not as something where the third row will be used a lot.

Great job on the presentation. Overall, looks great in many ways and would certainly be the choice for someone who enjoys driving. Two misses - 2nd row legroom looks rather tight and probably not good lane centering, unless they somehow made a big leap on this model from other models.

Thanks for this review! I drive a ‘22 Palisade and love it except for the gas mileage. If the CX90 gets 30+ miles on all electric and has comparable room in the third row (seems like it), I will likely make the switch. Getting 16.5mph around town in the Palisade 😢

that screen is really far away for touching purposes; not the best location for using the touch feature (fail). curious if this is the new signature color, replacing the Soul Red. Not a fan of the giant chrome strip along the top of the doors and not a fan of the charge port for the hybrid that couldn't be further from the driver and force ppl to back into their garage (fail). It can easily be forgotten, unless Mazda did something to warn the driver the charge port is in use...regardless, not a fan that it is at the very back and the opposite side of the driver. Not very efficient.

Ok Mazda I see you this new-gen CX-90 and upcoming 2-row CX-70 could just have saved Mazda and changes the premium/luxury pecking order from Japan now, we all know Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti, but you may want to add the new Mazda RWD models to this and dare I say, the RWD unibody based CX-90 and future CX-70 are better than those FWD based CUVs Lexus, Acura or Infiniti have, this new-gen CX-90 (and CX-70) are going to make life harder for the Lexus RX, NX, and upcoming new FWD-based CUV large model, the Acura MDX / RDX and Infiniti QX60 / QX50, it kinds of looks like a BMW X5 mix with a little Buick Enclave, oh yeah, can't forget about the BMW X3, X5, and X7 just got put on notice (along with other German brands), if Mazda prices these two new SUVs right it's going to be an interesting time at Mazda, this is the perfect SUV for those not planning to go off-roading or tow, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (2-row) / Grand Cherokee L (3-row)

It looks like Mazda borrowed size and design cues from Volvo X90. You should compare them side-by-side. As long as this one is cheaper, more reliable, and less hungry than Volvo counterpart, it will have a chance.

The only point the presenter actually talked about and concluded was the about the space at the back. The rest of the review was rubbish. There is absolutely no difference in the infotainment system from recent Mazdas. And most reviews say that this infotainment is minimalist and better than others (which I agree) .. say a Hyundai. Concluded nothing on the mileage.. poor review skills and poor review overall. Sorry, there’s room for improvement.
