Mini’s price and styling changes have finally killed my nostalgia for owning one since my first car was a classic mini 30 years ago. Even had 2 of the new BMW minis when they came out in the 2000’s. This thing has no soul. And I feel the nostalgia factor is what would have convinced me to me to overlook the shortcomings compared to a Model 3 or similar.
@SteveLoughran2 ай бұрын
As the former owner of a classic mini, I am well aware of the range anxiety and lack of heating the models have. At least now the anxiety is about "will the battery last" rather than "will the vehicle last?" . I feel that I have been vaccinated against ever wanted to get inside a mini let alone owning one.

I prefer kWh/100km, because I pay my energy usually in kWh as a unit - and it is easier to compare with ICE consumption. Good it is configurable in this car for others who prefer Wh/km. For purists or physicists they should also provide J/m or maybe even BTU/mile for our British friends.
@cap08152 ай бұрын
it's just a "function" from fossil times, if you are driving it shows litre/100km and when the car comes to stand it shows litre/hour - all german cars do this and it works. but now in an electric car, it is stupid and mathematical wrong, kWh/h is just kW - this is power and not consumption
@TheV742 ай бұрын
@@cap0815 No, "kWh/h" is not mathematically wrong. It is a unit of power. Furthermore, the above comment is only about units of energy consumption and gives a reason to prefer "kWh".

I have been waiting for the test of the J01 with the wonderful detailed Bjorn. Thank you. Its confirmed what I thought - that BMW messed up the engineering to have added so much weight for a so called dedicated EV platform vs the F56. The weight impacts everything so why didnt they use the F56 as the reference and minimise any KG creep. The efficiency is worse than F56. The styling has a clean look from the front but fussy from rear. Perhaps the first LCI (when the production starts in the UK) will fix the usability aspects of heating/charging/cooling. The seats look cheap and fussy. I noticed that the J01 has a super solid feel when the door is shut vs F56 so perhaps the extra weight is on better crash protection - lack of info from Mini as how/why so heavy and the excuse of larger battery is poor as cells from 2019 should be lighter per kw. Perhaps a early summer test with summer tyres will redeem the J01 a bit?
@Kaltpfote2 ай бұрын
Being the owner of the previous generation Cooper SE, I feel the same. Mini added quite an amount of weight to the J01, sure the battery is larger, but if we take a look at the brand new Renault 5 with a similar sized battery and overall very comparable dimensions, the French car is a lot lighter than the Mini. Personally I would consider myself a Mini fan, with the F56 Cooper SE being my second Mini, but somehow the J01 doesn't really spark too much interest, the exterior styling, especially at the rear end looks a bit weird and I am not really sold on the interior either. To be honest I'd rather buy the Renault 5 over the new Mini Cooper E/SE, even though it has less performance, I think the former is better designed and more thought out than the latter.

This is because the original minis had a circular display and they want to remember it. What they forget is that the original mini only had a limited number of things to display: speed, lights on, full beam lights, fuel left and "the orange light". What did the orange light indicate? I never quite worked out except it meant "trouble". There is a lot more trying to be displayed now and a round display is not the best way to do it. Except maybe for maps actually. But you could do that on a square display, leaving space round the edges for important things like an orange light
