The Mustang GT has finally made a return with the mighty 4th generation Coyote 5.0! With an extreme refresh to the car, I was invited out to give my initial thoughts on the S650 Mustang GT and thankfully there's a lot to talk about. Does it live up to the overall fantastic legacy of the S550? Let's talk about it.

Happy that its hanging around. Grateful that it's keeping the V8 and manual options. But I despise that interior. I'd rather spend the 50K+ on a slightly used S550 Bullitt or Mach 1. And I'd rather spend the $$$ for Dark Horse (Let's be honest, you are not getting one of those from a dealer for less than 70K) on a S550 GT500. Just MHO.

Mustang wasn't first. Plymouth had the Barracuda to market months prior to the Mustang. And if you want to get strict about the definition of muscle car, the nod usually goes to the Pontiac GTO, although an argument could be made for early max wedge Dodges and Plymouths, but those were too ugly to be successful.

It also comes with far more standard than those cars did, as I owned multiple ones. The interior quality was also hot garbage at the time. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 WELL SAID. In 2021 I bought a 1991 C15 with a cammed 350 and a 5 spd manual, fiberglass step-side bed, and cherrybombs. I paid $4,000 and sold it back to the previous owner for $5,000 a year later. He had a 1989 Corvette Greenwood Edition (the ZR1 of it’s day) and that car was SUUUUUPER fast and special. He traded that car for a Civic drag car with 500 WHP running in 10 second land on 93 pump gas. The Greenwood was valued at $18,000 in great condition, and I’d say he made a trade that worked for him! 😂

Hoping the styling grows on me like the G8x M’s over the years. Don’t love it (yet), but don’t hate it. I agree with the other comments about the dash screens, same feel as BMW’s transition from built in screen to one big curved one for MY ‘23. I don't like the screens. Or at least in the lower optioned GT's (where it's basically 2 separate tablets just stuck on the dash, which is also boring compared to the previous ones). I also agree that the design aesthetics of the car might be an acquired taste. As you highlighted, Ford kept the best elements of the last generation, and added some hoonigan type of factory options, which was smart since the other V8 vehicles from Detroit are slowly disappearing, so the Mustang is kinda the last option for the US Muscle crowd. An honest and informative review as always!
@electrikoptik
@electrikoptik 9 ай бұрын
I actually prefer the look of the 2 separate screens instead of the fused giant tablet screen one in the higher trim. I believe Mercedes was the first to use the 2 fused tablet look in their 2013 W222 S-class. It's played out and outdated looking which is why Mercedes already moved on from that design.

@leofhr2966 9 ай бұрын
I would say both Chevy and Dodge have completely moved away from their original styling and most importantly the heritage. Ford has kept their styling and initial heritage, it always remained a pony car, never turned into anything it wasn't built to be or came out of production once, a simple mix of a sport and muscle car. The camaro completely moved away from that and Dodge ditched a lot of it's heritage/brand image.
@evildrizzt1
@evildrizzt1 9 ай бұрын
@@leofhr2966you must be blind. Dodge has literally kept the same interior for over a decade across all of it’s platforms. Interior of a charger is the same as a challenger and even Chrysler 300. Meanwhile ford has added not one but two giant ipads to the mustang and even took styling from Camaro. One way to tell the year of a challenger is the tail lights 😂Lmao
@leofhr2966
@leofhr2966 9 ай бұрын
@evildrizzt1 The irony of insulting someone with blindness. So tell me, what does interior styling have to do with the original intended purpose of the car ? Such as being a muscle, pony or sports car ? Sure, heritage and styling of the interior all go together, but that wasn't at all the entire point. First off, it's kinda sad to brag that Dodge has had this long without a single change in the interior or the body styling, but fact is that body styling isn't what the original Dodge looked like or is even based around, look at every generation of Mustang, they all have something of the past Mustangs and or a retro styling that fits with the old school design clearly, the current interior is a modern interpretation, of course no old school car has massive screens doi... you didn't even address the fact that the Mustang never came out of production, didn't even address the fact that both Chevy and Dodge moved away from their original titles of muscle cars while Ford remained true to it's original title as a Pony car

They look pretty good but I hate the fact that they did screen gauges. I like the bigger real circle gauges better as someone who is more of a muscle car guy.

I think my biggest gripe is I wish they would've made that hood drop more gradual above the front wheels going forward and I hated the backend at first, but I think it'd be more palatable if they put a black trim piece between the taillights like they did on the last model. I think it'd completely change the look.

I had a carbureted 80s Buick park ave with a custom remote start for below zero where the trunk release was set up to a switch to the throttle so I could give it a pump to start in winter and yes I totally revved it when people walked next to it with the remote. But this was in the 90s when I was a teenager

I'll keep my '19 GT PP1 with analog gauges. I do like a lot of the cool new features like the drift brake, dual throttle bodies, steering rack, but not enough to make me want to upgrade. I prefer the styling of my '19.

You're one million percent on the money, I think the inspiration was the Fox gen, hence the gauge theme. But Fox fans don't complain about the interior not feeling Mustang. People are just overly tied to their individual perception of certain gens and models of Mustang, which all it really means is fun (relatively) affordable v8 sports car for the working class. The goal of every Mustang gen was not solely to be an evolution of the '65.

Personal opinion on the car without physically touching it is, it looks a lot better than it originally did, the black wheels are a lot more personally appealing than the chromes, the key fob revving is a fun party trick, and the fact that it’s more than capable to take mountain roads bone stock is fantastic. The s650 has definitely grown more on me and I’m excited to start seeing them in the wild

I'm glad that they have stuck to the V8, the drift brake is very cool. But I honestly don't think it looks as nice as the 2015-17 Mustang S550. The 480+ hp is nice and all but again don't think that's worth the cost of upgrading. So I think I'll stick with my 2016 Mustang GT. Might try test drive a S650 for fun though haha.

This car looks very nice! It’ll be interesting to see if tuners can crack these things because the dual throttle bodies on the dark horse from factory could yield some big power! I am nervous though because this almost seems like (without actually announcing it) a final send off to this platform and maybe the petrol mustang in general.

The pricing always amazer me. in most of Europe you pay 5.0 money for the 2.3 ecoboost. A friend of mine recently picked up a new Mach 1 it cost him close to 80K USD. Sure it's on the shop so he can write off some expenses but still expensive. That said for the power, you can't buy anything for that money. everything else over 400BHP start close to 100k.

In 30 years people are gonna be looking for analog cars. These cars with wall-to-wall iPads stuck everywhere looks cheap AF. One good center screen (updatable) would be perfect. Cars all look the same now. Cheap. I want analog buttons and knobs for ac and stereo. Everything else can go in the center stack screen. Oh, and analog gauges please. A screen in the analog gauge stack is fine. But all screen….no thanks. The difference between a 20k Altima and a 60k Mustang interior is negligible. No thanks.
