When friends and family ask me if they should carry, I ask these questions. 1) how long have you been a gun owner? (maybe this will be their first gun? which is not a great way to get introduced to shooting. I believe you should have some firearm experience before you carry) 2) Do you go to the range and shoot regularly? (you need absolute familiarity with your EDC) 3) Why do you think you need to carry? (this follows into #4) 4) If you cannot walk away from ANY CONFRONTATION or ARGUMENT, you should not carry a firearm. The ONLY time your weapon is unholstered is when there is a threat to life! Not to win an argument or scare someone. (I have been in an instance with another couple while we were out and about where we encountered some unruly ppl. I asked our group to turn around and avoid the rowdy group. One of our group members said, what are you worried about? You have a GUN! THAT is the idea I am worried about!) If they still want to carry, I bring them to my range and start to familiarize them with handguns.

Ok this comment is essentially as bad as the commie rules themselves. My friend if you are not drinking and are responsible why not carry in a bar or in a place where alcohol is served. There are many people that carry literally everywhere that’s the whole point of a ccw. Sadly theres no such thing as national reciprocity..but having a NJ permit does allow access to carry in a decent amount of states but if you want more i suggest applying for other state ccws. Arizona fla n texas are good ones n can all be done online. Im gonna get my PA one..but only the outlying counties will actually process them so ive been putting it off bc of the 5-6hr roundtrip drive but theyre much cheaper much faster n last longer then NJ n give you reciprocity with more states

I just completed my renewal. I did out early because of the doubling of the fee as of July 1. State Police webpage is not set up properly to process renewal applications, only initial applications. They need to address that. I had to have 4 references (not needed for renewals) to even process the renewal.

When you completed your renewal, did it automatically populate the references (from your initial) for your renewal? I noticed they don't have a "renewal" button but the process is basically the same for renewals as it is for initial applications.

@@martelltraininggroup There was no population of the references, but my permit was judge issued. I was in the first group in my county to get a permit and the first in my municipality, so we didn’t have that requirement, but there was no option on the webpage for renewal.

Thanks for the comments! I know some of the police working at the shore have considered the boardwalk a "shopping district/zone;" however, there are amusement rides along some boardwalks which I'm guessing puts them in the category of "recreation" or "entertainment." It's insane how confusing and difficult this law can be to interpret. Hopefully, it all gets sorted out soon in court.

What are the implications of printing while carrying.? I am very concerned about it especially during the summer with flimsy clothes. I hesitate carrying because of this. Can you talk about the legal problems that could come from printing.? Thanks

I don't believe there are any legal penalties for printing. But there are disadvantages: 1) you lose all elements of surprise in a life-and-death confrontation, which is where you need all the advantages you can have. 2) You bring unnecessary attention to yourself from other "concerned citizens". 3) Said "concerned citizen" could call Law Enforcement and you would have an encounter with local police unnecessarily.

My instructor told us that as long as you take reasonable steps to maintain concealment you should be fine as far as the law. The ex he used was reaching for an item on a shelf in a store n your shirt comes up n ppl can see your firearm. Long as yoyre not fully open carrying or brandishing youre ok. However..remember this is deep blue NJ n most ppl..incl cops..are NOT used to seeing ppl.carrying at all. So you might get a few karens who freak out or a few stores who ask you to leave. Best bet is to quietly comply. Also a good idea to have a gun lockbox with a wire tether in your car at all times when carrying so you can take it off n lock it up if needed. Esp with all the restricted areas here

If you were approved for a firearms ID and/or permit to purchase, you should be ok to get your permit to carry. The "justifiable need" has been removed so you no longer need a reason to get one.

Thank you for posting these stats and your thinking as to why (beyond the 2A, our god given right to Carry firearms) so many have filed to Carry. In August of 2022, I filled out my paperwork and brought it to my local PD. It took 90 days and in November of 2022, after spending roughly $2,000.00 (including me CCW) I received my 2 year permit. I went to PA and took a class for my Utah 5 year permits as well. So after a few months, because of Murphy's desire to only allow criminals to carry firearm, I am heavily restricted to carry in many places I frequent, restaurants/bars and State and County Parks are the 2 I care most about. As November quickly approaches, I am very curious about how arduous it will be to renew my NJ permit and unless Murphy's decision is overturned, is it worth it to renew. Sure I feel safer when I visit businesses in Plainfield, Paterson, Newark, etc., but once there I often have to lock my firearm in my trunk. Have you heard what the process has been to date? I understand you can apply to renew 3 months before expiration, so their must be a pretty good number of people that have reapplied. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, as you mentioned, some restrictions have been lifted. If you can share/link a site that details the current CCW locations, that would be great.

Ammo must be separated from the secured firearm, not in the same safe. If the mag is empty you can store with firearm.

I work armed security in Lakewood and have not heard about this. Get a Glock, the only way they discharge is by pulling the trigger and don't get triggers with lite trigger pulls, stick with factory triggers, just my opinion.
