I'd say the Outback Wilderness and the Forester Wilderness are the only two Subaru models that I'm okay with having a ton of plastic cladding everywhere since they were made with the intent of going off the pavement.

BP, SG that share the same chassis as the DCCD one and have LSD are actually better at off-roading, no matter the manual one or the torque converter. The Subaru nowadays are paired with CVT and open differential, which indicates that the off-road capability has declined after Subaru updated to CVT+open differential from Torque converter+LSD

Ummmmm..... my dad had an AMC Eagle for a short time. No, the Outback Wilderness is nothing like a AMC Eagle other than they're both vehicles with 4 wheels. The Wilderness is far superior, and more reliable!

"You should buy one" I just bought one today actually. 2024 Outback Wilderness with the turbocharged engine. I was going to order one with all the available options and they actually just received exactly what I was looking for at a local dealer, so we got that one.

This is a thorough review. Thank you for that. A few thoughts. I like the new front grill area, looks bigger and bolder, which I like, though I'd rather all the grills would be fully blacked out, I can't quite tell if they are blacked or greyed in the video, and if I couldn't get that direct from Subaru I might spend the money to have it done myself after market. And I agree completely with your recommendations to work on the wheels/tires. Maybe lift the vehicle another inch or so, not too much, but another inch or so, put on more aggressive tires, maybe all terrains like a Ridge Grappler, on slightly smaller wheels so there is a thicker rubber sidewall, and even offset them slightly, not extreme, but a tad more to the outside, still lined up or close to it with the outside edge of the bumpers/cladding. Man, that would make this lifted wagon look stronger and handle even better, more like a true suv (Though hopefully that extra lift, maybe up to 10.5" clearance, or at least 10" clearance, hopefully that would only minimally decrease mpg). Color wise, I'd love all black exterior personally, but that dark blue is pretty darn nice, and that is a subjective thing. I will say, that since I do a lot of highway driving too, I'd love it if I could get this not just with heated seats, but heated and ventilated or cooled seats, and a decent massaging seat function. That would be nice. And as long as I'm dreaming, I'd love to get a decent Night Vision capability, not only very useful in heavy fog or bad snowstorms, but, excuse the humor, better to see bigfoot with. Nice vehicle, especially for the price; and solid review. Thumbs up. Worth the watch.

they're trying justify aerodynamics with over styling on the rear end imo, I would be a customer with the 2.4t and 6 speed manual, what I like is that it's not just a fat "suv" version of a sedan/wagon, it's actually a lifted wagon with petite wrc flares

Hi Bembli I actually have a 2022 Subaru outback wilderness and love it! I gotta ask what kind of tablet and pen are you using? I'm a designer and I use way, but I must say you have incredible skill where you can trace around the shapes on the car is that just from years of practice? I've been in Designer for 40+ years and never really felt quite comfortable with the pen as I do with pen and paper lol!

While I appreciate the updates, I think Subaru does it too often. Somewhere in the middle would be nice. At the other extreme is the Toyota 4Runner. Somehow it just looks like these are designed by a committee and look "over" designed which dates them quickly. Look at vehicles like Porsche, Audi, Toyota, even ahem, Nissan. Once they design a model, they stick with it and make subtle changes at longer intervals. It seems like the Wilderness just came out and they already changing it.

I really like the looks of OBW. I dislike the 2023 front grille/fascia on the regular Outbacks sold in North America. I wonder why, for 2024 OBW, did they add more honeycomb details on front bumpers? I was ok with those horizontal stripes.

WAY too much plastic on the Wilderness and ALL other Outback models for that matter. I also agree the tires on the Wilderness look very undersized. I'm an owner of a 2018 Outback and very happy with it, but I am NOT a fan of the 2022 and newer models. No new Outback for me unless they make significant design changes from the current model. I'll wait to see what they do with the 2025 updates.

Went to the dealer about a couple of weeks ago to get something on our Outback checked out and the sticker price on a sold Wilderness was 51k CAD + tax. They also told us that their customers have been waiting around 6 months maximum to get the car. I'm in Southern Ontario by the way.

I bought a 23 OW five weeks ago, and in the past 1800 miles I've driven through two mountain-pass blizzards, an ice-skating ring highway, and a level-three off-road trail here in the Pacific Northwest... thoughts, it's a tank. It's also amazingly fast and quite comfortable. I love the look and the capability. This is coming from a guy who's owned four Jeeps and two Nissan Pro4x pickups (Frontier and Titan XD, which the second one was traded-in for the Subaru).

I love my Geyser Blue! I love how they're adding the Harmon Kardon sound system and heated steering wheel. Not too excited about the exterior changes. The wheel cladding arches are actually designed for crossing deep water and mud. Splashes it away from your path and not at cars behind you.

I LOVE my 2024 Outback Wilderness. I LOVE cladding. To me it looks a lot better than paint riddled with rock damage. This car drives so sweetly. I live in Alaska so I guess nothing more needs to be said about why I like these cars. Drove a regular Outback with no turbo and it felt like a completely different car. It felt like driving a boat. Of course I love the way the Outback looks. Interior reminds me of the two Volvo station wagons I had before this car. Very clean lines and interior. To me very pleasing. Not to all of course.

How well do these CVT's hold up long term? Like 10 years+? I'd be in it for the long haul and my current vehicles, are on their original trans 24 yrs +. Only maintenance is trans fluid change.
