For this price-point, especially with the smaller motor, there really is no other car that can be compared to the Crown Sedan. Some people actually still want a Sedan with a separated TRUNK. They also are willing to pay extra for a few more creature comforts, a quieter ride, AWD, great gas mileage, while in a platform that sits higher than a regular sedan. They also do not want to pay Lexus prices! This interviewer appears short sighted and obviously doesn't understand why some people might actually like what Toyota is delivering with the Crown Sedan, and that is why he comes across a little too negative.
@pgalt40336 ай бұрын
The engine options are 2.5l and 2.4l turbo hybrids… the base model engine is NOT smaller as you kept saying, and the “CVT” is actually what Toyota calls eCVT and has absolutely nothing in common with more conventional CVT transmissions. It’s also a lot smoother on the road than the conventional transmission in the Platinum model. A tiny bit of research goes a long way
@Jeff-pq3zj5 ай бұрын
I stand corrected. Thank you. I thought mine came with the 2.4 four-cylinder but it actually has the 2.5. I checked the build sheet and that confirmed it.

We bought the new 2024 Crown Limited and are happy we did. a little pricey but we are seniors and I have 100% VA disability as an Army Retiree but driving this Sedan Hybrid is a pleasure. Believe it or not, we had a 2020 Mustang that we traded in for this one. I struggled to get in and out of that car. The fuel economy is great at 40 miles to the gallon. There are so many Teck improvements, most having a button for each that's easy to adjust. I love the cruise control, stay in lane, and car lengths behind the car ahead! It almost drives itself. Adding the Toyota Control to our phones was high tech but we finally got both of ours on it. The ride is smooth, but we have yet to drive long distance. It's our first time to have a Hybrid and it's exciting to see the extra power and economical savings! Enjoy!

I just bought a 2024 Crown with the small 2.4 liter 4 cyl. I am real happy with it. Good ride and since it has the small 4 cylinder, I get excellent fuel milage . Still getting used to the buttons and how they work, but that will come. It gets lots of looks and nice compliments. It is the XLE model, so I've added a window tint, dash cams, and a daily dusting, ( its gray with black interior). It is to new to give an accurate mpg, but 40+ sounds about right. I also got a good price for it. The extra perks that you can add to it (platinum model ) is why they are more expensive.

@djplonghead54033 ай бұрын
RX 350 is more expensive when equipped with similar features. Also Lexus is usually more expensive to insure.
@djplonghead54033 ай бұрын
The limited model compares with the Lexus es 300h. Both have very similar, if not the same, powertrains. If you want to get the ES with similar features as the crown limited, like vented seats, heated steering wheel, etc, then you are at 49k. The crown takes the lead in things like the standard larger screen and sunroof. The ES is better with things like the wooden trim with lighting, 10 way seats instead of 8, option for a power trunk, HUD, and a much better sound system. The crown limited is 50,000 with the advanced park. Dealers seem to be offering a $2,000 discount to get them to sell (at least where I am from). That $48,000 is pretty close to the ES with similar options. The only thing with the Crown is that you can’t get some features you may want- power tilt/telescope wheel, opening moonroof, better sound system, etc. This is annoying because the Avalon has a few of these features. Overall, I think that the crown limited is better than an ES in terms of standard. If you find/build an ES with some options it is quite a bit better than the crown.

It's a eCVT split power transaxle mechanism for transmission that is nothing like a CVT transmission, CVT'S have a belt/VChain that drives on cones, one that moves in closer to the other cone squeezing belt up the cone incline causing the belt on that side to get larger in diameter. Hense why it's called a continuously variable transmission because the larger size of belt pulley makes a higher gear ratio. eCVT transmission (Power Split Device) is a transmission using only gears that are incredibly strong with a planetary gear system with two electric motors that double as electric generators, that's why the motors are called MG1 and MG2. The MG1 starts the motor and it doesn't have a starter motor and doesn't need it. When MG2 kicks on or is rotating the opposite direction of MG1 or the planetary gears are stopped MG1 and MG2 generate electricity to the battery pack. eCVT's don't wear down like automatic transmissions or especially like CVT's. There's no clutches or belts or chains to break. Many CVT's snap their V belt/V Drive chain before 150K miles. So it's very important to distinguish between CVT's and eCVT's. You technically only have to change the transmission fluid every couple years because of the gearsets instead of chains or belts and lack of many different wearable components like clutch packs.
@Lexlugr8 күн бұрын
Good write up. What is the coupling mechanism if there are no clutches? Is there a torque converter? Or are you saying that it's primarily an electric drive system with the engine serving as the power generator rather than prime mover? The tradeoff you will get with these is that it's not really a way to properly work on these platforms and it's a dealer only repair. We also haven't run the gamut of reliability windows so only time will tell how well they perform compared to their traditional hybrids or pure ice

As a Prius owner who would like a higher car for my aging hips and knees this car is a consideration. Give me the electric drive train with the gasoline assist (the lower power higher fuel economy option similar to the Prius and Camry hybrid). I would be very reluctant to get the turbo even if the fuel economy was the same. I have no plans to buy a turbo, or GDI without port injection, or a sleazy mechanical CVT. As we love our station wagons (SUVs, minivans, sport wagons, etc.), please bring us a lift back version (like my current Prius). I really like the hybrid synergy drive hybrid. Most of the electric car goodness without the electric car drawbacks.
