Family of 4, we just switched from a Honda CRV to the Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE. Averaging 33 miles per gallon and loving all the extra room! Tons of safety features and the massive sunroof is joyous. MPG, Toyota brand, technology and capacity were our major deciding factors over the Palisade.

@oldageisdumb Жыл бұрын
@@danehenderson5480We test drove a regular Highlander hybrid and it was pretty zippy (not on the highway but on the highway access road). The GH is heavier so not sure how much that would affect that. We owned a camry hybrid for 10 years and it had plenty of power so Toyota does a good job with it. But keep in mind a 4cyl hybrid engine is never going to be as great as a solid 6cyl gas engine for the feel. The regular Highlander is perfect size for smaller families as it provides extra space over compact SUVs, but still easy to park and can tow. Grand Highlander is straight up for people who don’t want a minivan, but need minivan size.
@almassengale Жыл бұрын
It isn't really minivan size though on the inside. Something like a Kia Carnival has almost double the cargo space behind the third row and it is well down on maximum cargo space on everything but the Sienna with its non removable middle row. By the way, it’s a 2024 not a 2023 as the title shows. I do like that you showed differences of seat back vs forward and explained what 2nd row space would be in other vehicles because comparing cubic feet only is hard to tell. However, what made us decide on the grand (picking up tomorrow by the way) goes more than simple space or knees. You can’t neglect when buying a car the reliability Toyota (and Honda for that matter) offer, resale value is much stronger with Toyotas compared to Kia and Hyundai, the years and years and perfecting their hybrid systems. Those points brought us to Toyota grand highlander. Sure a sweet looking inside of a Kia telluride or Hyundai does look better, I’ll be honest. But for price and other factors I mentioned it’s hard to simply ignore. But she is right in that it really just depends on what you are looking for that fits for you. Hybrid (not hybrid max) we are choosing supposedly goes 36 mpg in city, we’ll test it when we get it and show a video of 3 car seats we need to fit. But that’s about $800-900 a year saving on gas.

Kids can’t hear a thing back there. So annoying. How much would rear speakers cost? Base trim speakers probably less that twenty bucks. But instead I have to spend maybe a grand for wiring and speakers and void my warranty to upgrade. XLE still costs 50 grand. Not like this is a base model Honda civic folks. On top of that, the stop start feature is really annoying. I’d suggest getting the limited trim for the rear speakers and the 360 camera for parking. The new cream color is nice as is the great seats. Love the car other than the stupid speaker issue and stop start. And wish I had a middle bench. Love the sunroof. Love the design of the exterior.

That tilt & slide is not the same as some vehicles tilt & slide. You couldn't have a carseat installed in that seat & access the 3rd row then? Other than entering second row (navigating around a FF carseat) and going between the captains chairs. That's a bummer. I really like the tilt&slide where the carseat can remain installed like in the Lexus TX & Atlas

I've been waiting for this review for a while, thank you! I think the only surprise was the 3rd row tether situation. If you can get your hands on one, I'd love a review of the Lexus TX when it's available. Regarding the 3rd row, since it only has two seats, I wonder if it has two tethers or still just the one on the passenger side.

Based on another review I watched of the Lexus TX, it does have top tethers on both 3rd row seats.

The Grand wins in that it offers two hybrid trims. No one else, but Toyota offers a hybrid variant in this class. Home run

Compare it to the similar trim Sienna features, functionality, price.

The dilemma I have is that I want a heads up display but I want a bench seat, but the heads up is only in platinum and you can’t get a bench. Like why? Why is a heads up display not in all cars? I have one in my 2019 XLE Camry.. I’m hoping they improve some of these things for 2025 or 2026… as of now my husband really wants a sequoia but I want the fuel economy, cargo space and cheaper price point..

Can you compare to 2024 Nissan pathfinder?

Traverse/Enclave/redesigned 2024 Acadia, Atlas, and Grand Highlander are all the same size 96-98 cubic feet with all seats down. Pilot, Telluride/Pallisade, Explorer, and Grand Cherokee L are 10-12 cubic feet smaller. There’s no comparison. Of the big boys, Grand Highlander and Atlas have the best packaging and materials. The Pilot and GC L are nice too. The rest are pretty cheaply put together especially the Korean twins. The materials don’t feel great at all.

HI Kelly, how can I connect with you in negotiating a 2023 Toyota Highlander Platinum for the right price and not get raked over the coals? I'm in SC

Thanks for posting this. My pacifica was totalled and Im wanting to go back to an SUV. Been trying to decide between this and the Traverse and Ive got 2 kids in boosters and 1 FF. I have to decide this weekend.
@user-yx4on8hx4w Жыл бұрын
If you have to decide by this weekend, the odds are probably going to end up with a traverse because of Grand Highlander availability. If you don't have to choose that soon, wait for the new Traverse and Acadia that will be out early 2024
@My_Three_Sons Жыл бұрын
I wish I could wait that long for the new traverse or acadia. I still dont have a car, today we are sharing... there are a few GH around here, just an hour drive away. Hoping to get something today or tomorrow.

Hi Kelly! We have one question as we think about getting a new car for our growing family (currently 2 littles but hoping for another!). How did you help your oldest buckle in the backseat with the RF car seats in the second row? Thank you!
