Triumph has been muscling its way into my subconsciousness recently, and is fast becoming one of my favorite brands. The more I learn the more I like them. I think the Brits have missed a trick here - Triumph should be more widely positively promoted & celebrated as a national treasure not merely a Bike company.

I do love the sound of a Triple, other than the dash I like it very much. Price wise it’s very reasonable I recall paying £7500 for a Honda CBR 600F in the late nineties. Thanks Mark 👍

As an A2 compatible bike this must be a serious contender for anyone in that market. Cracking paint-job too, and with decent tyres from the get-go what's *not* to like about this middleweight from Triumph...

Took one for a test ride at my local dealer yesterday. Very nice ride and impressive for a 660. I do agree that it's road-bias design makes it quite stable at high speed on the highway (which may also lead to some compromises on the track but it's not intended to be an out of the box track machine). I'm very interested in purchasing one but California's insurance industry is in a huge mess right now and insurance rates are simply unacceptable - I've been quoted rates varying anywhere from $1700 to $9310 a year. Nice ride Triumph!

This video is the final confirmation I needed. I'm buying one as my second bike. I do hope they make a sub 400 lb 330 or 440 triple Daytona at some point. They would dominate the "beginner" market.

Nice review. Great engine, seems like a decent bike. Not really a fan of the cockpit but it isn't a deal breaker. Although I am more put off by the average suspension & lazy handling. This is a class leader if they sharpened up the handing just a little bit. Seems like they slightly missed the mark but I'm sure Triumph will address it next year as they're usually pretty responsive.
@TwinPotMan5 ай бұрын
I agree entirely. I tested the very bike Mark is reviewing here and as a previous owner of a Speed Triple R, Street Triple 675 RX and Street Triple 765R, I was expecting good handling. BUT, coming to the first roundabout I had to really haul the bike into the turn. At first I thought it might be a soft front tyre but having now read MCN's latest review, the problem seems to be a high front end. I only did about 5 miles because I was so disappointed by the dull handling, which you better describe as "lazy". By comparison the Suzuki GSX8R is much sharper handling and I think a better bike.
@ragerider62835 ай бұрын
@@TwinPotMan Agreed. And for the record I bought an 8R as it was the better package, for me at least, by far. The 8R's no scalpel but it's handling is surprisingly good & very positive. Night & day compared to this & that's with the distinctly average OE rubber on too.
@benjolley41202 ай бұрын
Probably a bit late now, but I found the handling the same when I first test rode one, it felt a little laboured, almost too "gentle"... Then I watched a guy on YT talking about the preload on his Daytona, as he is 18st and just under 6' tall, it was set too soft from factory. #1 of 6 I believe on the preload. He set his to #3 after messing about with it and it transformed the bike! I've now done the same on mine (I'm 6'2 and 16.5st) and it has transformed the handling. Miles sharper now! Is it as sharp as my XSR900 GP? No, but that is a far more focused riding position to be fair. The Daytona now feels so much more lively and eager to get over. I've not even scrubbed the tyres in yet (only done 50 miles on it!) but already it feels... 🤔 Well, night and day different to my first test ride! 👍

Hi Mark, Have you ever ridden a Honda CBR600F ? I bought one of the very last ones made back in 2007 and found the riding position good, not too sporty (the handling was great too). What I'm wondering is if the riding position of the Daytona 660 is anything like the CBR600F... ? Thanks for the vid, very good review, love the sound of the bike... it's got me quite interested to go and have a look at one.

Nice review Mark. The international launch reviewers thought it was a bit soft, but they are probably not reflecting an every day rider. The dash/instruments is woeful. Idiosyncratic and not even trying to meet the market with a TFT. Triumph needs to sort this the more premium Street Triple R has the same stupid dash. The RS has a TFT, but the tach set up is unreadable. Need to fire that team.
@neillambton40655 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, a great review, i know exactly what you mean, and totally agree with your summing up. Why?, because i tested that same bike from DTD a few weeks back, on the same roads, and absolutely loved it. I totally agree about the need for these more road focused mid sized sports bikes, they are the right sports bikes for crappy British roads. However, i still think there is a market for a larger version, possibly using the Tiger 900 engine, now that would be the ultimate pure road sports bike.

This looks like a nice sort of budget sports tourer/comuter machine. When i was 19 I had a TZR250 and I had no car and loved it. If i was that age again one of these or CBR650 or GSX8R would be perfect. In my 50s and having bikes mainly for fun its not for me. One thing i do wish is Triumph would get up to date with their dashes. This looks dated compared to all other manufacturers TFT dashes. They just about get away with it on this the trident and the tiger sport but it has no place on the Street Triple R which its also fitted too😮
