I have tested both in the same day, the SP first. The test ride was one hour with each bike. When I was testing the "normal" version after the SP, I just stopped after just 15 min , turn around and came back. I didn't needed more time in the no-sp......they feel very diferent. At the end of the day , I bought the SP......is worth the extra money

It’s also worth taking in to account the total cost to own. The SP‘s are much more rare and highly sought after and are likely to hold their value better during resale.

The previous MT-09 versions, the SP was worth it, but with this model it doesn’t. The 2024 base has all you wanted from the previous SP, but a bit cheaper.

@@SirMountainpasseven if you're pushing, on road use only the brembo caliper is something interesting. Even my yamaha dealer told be the sp is not worth it unless you just want the premium version. Most things are not usefull (more modes, track screen, keyless, dlc)... it just add 1 kg to the bike. Not sure the ohlins rear shock is much better on twisty and bumpy roads or as a daily. So here again only the brembo caliper means something to me.

It would be a really tough decision between the 2024 MT09-SP and the new 765 RS Street Triple. Primarily, because of the bullshit dealer fees that total about $2700 additional dollars (or more) for the dealers that sell Yamaha. Whereas, Triumph dealerships don't usually have those specific rip-off markups. The Triumph is way better looking (IMHO) and is so freaking smooth but Yamaha is statistically more reliable and has some more electronic, torque and mpg benefits.

It has the extra DLR switch on it but the DLR switch doesn't work on U.S. models without the R.O.W. Tune programming. Thanks Triumph for tying the headlights into the PCM! 🙄😕😤🤬

I've got 2021 MT-09, it has a weird handlebar position which causes arm ache after riding for a short time and turning angle is very small. Front suspension is good but a bit hard same as the rear. The throttle is too light to control firmly. And there're reports of many owners that this 890cc's frame is cracked which is so dangerous. I hope this latest model has been fixed for those issues.

The bar is different and there is more angle before it locks. No one has complained the suspension is hard. Bring your bike to a suspension tuner, you've got it set up wrong.

I love the frame complaint from people. They crash these bikes hard and complain that the frame breaks. My favorite is when they post photos of a broken frame without providing context as to how it happened. 😂

I just purchased the SP. It's a great bike but the keyless ignition is BS. I wish that Yamaha would have spent the keyless R&D money eqipping the bike with braided brake lines and some other worthwhile features.

@@dizzicz If the bike is a Panigale, I think so. But if the bike is BMW R18, i don't think so 😄 In this case ( MT09 ) you'll probably find both types of people. Some take it to the track, some don't.

@@dizzicz I agree with you! And I think that some lessons on track should be mandatory to get the driving licence. However, usually when people think on track, they think on race (me included 😅) , so it won't be easy to find an R18 owner with the mindset to take it to the track. Also, if you're not racing or at least don't have already some track experience, it will take some time until you get full advantage of the Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes of the SP version. I think the normal MT09 is alot of bike for most people.

@@MacAlex007 even here I'll try to change your view. Beginner and/or ordinary rider, is much more probable to make an mistake. Better suspension (and maybe even brakes, however here I don't think that it is much an issue), you have bigger margin, where bike can handle your error. So while racer wants better bike so he can use more of it. Beginner wants better bike (suspension) to have bigger chance to handle unexpected situation. And regarding racing, if baggers can race on MotoAmerica, R18 can either :-) Anyway if anybody don't understand value of SP version, it's completely fine, and standard version will do.

Disagree... Sounds like you're trying to justify the upgrade because you did the upgrade. For the 2024 MT09 specifically. What justifies it? The track modes that 99% of users will never use? I guarantee you the average user is not going to know the difference in suspension since it's so minor. The ability to electronically change the rear suspension? Once you tune it to the rider, it will never move.
