A truly excellent review Nic. In just over 8 minutes, you’ve given us more detail, personal thoughts and nuances of the bike than most UK reviewers offer in three times the length of video. As a recent new owner, I can identify with all your observations, especially having also test ridden the standard version. Bravo Sir 👌

@@Maverick-moto Thanks for the kind words! Luckily, I've been able to spend time with the last few iterations of the MT-09 and can reference those experiences, but our European/English colleagues have some awesome coverage of this bike, too. Solid choice in bikes, as well! You've got a ripper! 🫡

Nice review. Any news regarding the GP variant? Are we getting it here in north america?
@ultimatemotorcyclingАй бұрын
Hey @MRKameChan, We definitely bugged Yamaha staffers about the XSR900 GP and brand representatives are understandably careful about going on record with certain things. The gist that I gathered was: It doesn't seem like it's coming here at this time. Will that change in the future? I'm not sure, but if you're holding out for a GP instead of an SP, I'd still go for the SP due to the upright riding position. Take care! - Nic

Great review. So…… it’s the SP, huh? $1700 isn’t the only up charge, sales tax is higher too. I just wonder if the SP is actually that significantly better than the std trim? For a casual rider, riding for pleasure and fun on a limited budget? So let’s do some SP math; you’re talking just under $15K - $14,714 w/bike+ frt+sales tax(TX @8.25%). That doesn’t include any other dealer fees and who knows what additional add ins you might have so let’s just say out the door at $15,500 to be safe. Now the std model: using same pricing methodology, first out the door price is $12,048, let’s add another $500 just like the SP pricing and now your at $12,548.42 out the door vs $15,500. Now that $1700 variance is $2,952.00 !!!! Is the SP worth an extra $3K or are we being, “marketed” in a trade up. I grant you, won’t be able to get all those trade up components for $3K in aftermarket makeover. But man i can buy alot of riding stuff; new jacket, gloves, pants, boots and helmet for $3K

@@SonriseSunset Picking up the standard bike is a decent way to save anywhere from $1700 to $3000, depending on dealer fees, taxes, etc and the reality is the base MT-09 is an extremely solid choice for the average street rider. The 2024 platform changes improved on the bike in several ways (save for the emissions flat-spot). We highlighted a similar point in the full story, wherein a casual rider might not necessarily feel the true performance benefits of the suspension. Yet, the ride quality has improved at any pace, as is the brake feel. The main takeaway after back-to-back testing at Sonoma Raceway (this is referenced in the full story) is that you're getting more chassis, more brakes, and more electronics for a $1700 upcharge. In any performance setting, street or track, the SP has clear advantages. The chassis is more stable, provides more confidence, and the brakes are sharper while never fading. Plus, you have extra leeway with the electronics. Price is always a consideration for buyers because we all want the best deal possible. But, if you're looking at the MT-09 platform and want the sportiest option, then the SP is the go-to choice. As you mentioned before, even at $3000 with taxes, fees, etc, you still couldn't do all the upgrades the SP provides, especially with respect to the electronics. On a somewhat related note: I wish we were able to report out-the-door pricing, including tax, fees, etc like some markets are able to do. It's a little misleading for North American consumers to see an MSRP and knowingly have to assume an additional 10-12 percent above that. Take care! - Nic

If you price out the parts individually, it would cost you around $3K plus to make your own SP of the same spec just on suspension. The SP is worth it

I have a 2022 std model MT09 with years of riding experience. My close friend has a 2023 SP model MT09. In normal day to day use on the streets and roads you really won’t notice any difference in my opinion. My friend also very experienced says he doesn’t notice any quantifiable difference on the public roads either. We both agree that on a track there is a difference but not a big difference. He is 2.7 seconds faster on the Sp model and I am only 1.1 to 1.4 seconds faster. After some brake work and tuning on my STD Model I think it is now even closer. Find your areas motorcycle salvage yard and do some parts shopping. I got the Sp rear shock system for a 2023 model complete for $225.00 dollars. The bike it came from only had 3,700 miles on it. My guess is if you aren’t in a hurry and can do your own wrenching. A STD can be a Sp for 8 or 9 hundred dollars. Personally unless you plan to compete on track the Std will be all you will need. From what I have seen the big thing between the two bikes is bragging rights not actual ability. Buy a Std model and a nice helmet, matching jacket and pants, take a little riding trip.

@@WalterJohnson-er7bt Thanks for your reply and information. One forgets that the Std trim comes with both spring pre-load and rebound dampening suspension adjustments., tho no slow anf fast adjustments like the SP. "Back in the day", the only suspension adjustments you had were spring pre-load. I had a 81 Suzuki GS1100EX and it had front forks with both and that was a big surprise at the time. Motorcycle magazine writers (no internet , if you can imagine today!) went on and on about it. However the rear shock only came with spring preload. I changed out for a pair of dual spring rated S&W shocks. Course things didn't cost near as much but all is relative, right, and it was expensive to work on a bike then too. Your idea of finding an area motorcycle salvage place is interesting and a great idea. Never thought about that even existing! You don't need Ohlins shocks to have better rear shock. There are other altenatives that are pretty darn good too but all are on the pricey side(Nitron for one, an English company) Even Ohlins has different priced replacement rear shocks for motorcycles. I wouldn't mess with front fork replacements tho, so the salvage shop is a great idea, tho you probably have to wait a few years before the 2024 models start appearing. One suspension maker that I would like to get access to is WP but they are owned by and only seem to supply suspension components to KTM.
