I had a 2020 G80 I bought new. Loved that car, but had it's issues and the Hyundai dealer service experience was not great. It finally culminated in the engine being destroyed by a dealer oil change overfill. Genesis corporate and the dealer drug me through the mud and I went from being a Genesis fan to commited to never owning another Genesis in my life. Think of swapping you into a demo to replace the car they blew up with a demo Genesis that had 90% of the vehicle repainted, and they did not disclose it bad. Genesis will only ever be as good as it's dealer network, and it's dealer network is horrendous.

I bought a MDX Type S and comparison shopped with the GV80 so was very interested in the video (an avid viewer of Savagegeese). But the title is misleading - the video spends most of the time comparing the GV80 to German rivals, NOT to Lexus and Acura (Acura really not at all). Why isn't the title "Surpassing BMW, Mercedes and Audi?"
@savagegeese3 ай бұрын
The Type S is a far superior vehicle to the GV80 but to be fair thats a one off for Acura. According to Hyundai marketing they are conquesting, Lexus and Acura and lessor extend Audi.
@davidlehr92133 ай бұрын
@@savagegeese I hope this is fake... You have in your description the MDX. @@MikeForsythe You as a single person should understand how small your sphere of awareness is. No matter how many people you think you know and how they feel on certain topics, that's just a drop in the ocean at best and is nowhere close to being enough data to speak boldly in representation of the world, or even as small as in representation of the society you are a part of. Whether you like it or not, and whether you agree or not, the objective truth is that many who have bought a Genesis has comparison shopped with the Japanese and German counterparts. The price is too close for people to not to.

I appreciate that Hyundai put so much effort in building this brand from scratch but the character and language of this brand seems a bit fake and tacky. They are trying too hard look like an affordable Bentley from the grille, the quilt pattern and even down to the logo. At least Lexus, Acura, Infiniti has carved out a vision of what Japanese luxury can be; even though they are slacking a bit in recent years.

Just say no to that frozen matte paint. I have it on my motorcycle, and it looks great, but it's really sensitive. It's not too much of a bother on something as small as a bike, but on an SUV...forget it.

@jeffs60903 ай бұрын
@avery4528 - came here to say that. If you get a matte paint, you definitely need a matte ppf wrap. However, if you do that, you may as well save the money of the matte paint and get a regular paint and do the matte ppf wrap. The look will be the same. But then, you could choose the nice red or blue and have that as a matte color, which they don't have as an option.

Seems to be a common theme with the Genesis where they nail the interior, design, materials, good infotainment etc. but they just simply don’t put the money into the drivetrain and suspension like the Germans do. For most, not a big deal but that’s the difference when you are talking about $75-$85k.

DRIVETRAIN problems mentioned at 13:29...I was ready to sign on a GV80 two weeks ago. They are incredible cars. Ended up on a Genesis forum and learned that a massive amount of these are experiencing transmission failure early on. This is the previous models, but it might be the same tech in the 2025 one. A bit scary to dive with that lingering so I backed out. Otherwise these are stellar cars in every way. Still disheartened because I was ready to purchase. But reliability is important especially at this price point, and resale is an issue too.

I really like Genesis products. My only gripes are: 1. Price 2. How they drive Now, my second gripe I don’t know for sure, as I’ve never driven them. But I do have family members who have a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. It’s a nice and comfortable SUV. Really not many complaints with it at all. Long road trips are great in it. BUT you can tell how cheap it is in comparison to other manufacturers, when driving it. The steering is numb. The lane assist works, but is finicky sometimes. Stuff like this. Just all-around, you can tell it’s made cheaper and uses cheaper parts on the driving experience aspect, but the interior is really nice and no complaints there. So, are Genesis products like Hyundai products in that sense? Where you feel how cheaply it’s made when you drive them, or do they feel rock solid like a Lexus does? Are the safety denatures like adaptive cruise, lane assist, ABS, etc. top notch to quite such a high price tag? Those are things I would like to know.

To my eye genesis has the best blend of exterior and interior style on the market. Their stuff stands out from the herd and having been inside multiple models, the fit and finish as well as materials are very solid. Unfortunately their powertrains are not as refined or powerful as the German competition, hopefully a huge slice of the engineering budget is going into that for upcoming models.
@air-headedaviator18053 ай бұрын
number one thing I think Genesis does best vs its competition is making a product desirable. Like even for a big SUV, you kinda just *want* this. Other than the super high end SUVs none of the other vehicles offer the same kind of desirability. RX, QX60, MDX are kinda appliancy; Q7, 5 series, GLE visually awkward. Even if its not heads and tails better it looks so clean
