The PHEV retains 15% battery for Hybrid mode. Im curious to see how it balances the torque. Pickup my Ultimate PHEV AWD next week.

Tucson Hybrid drive train question. In the all wheel driver version, does the electric co-exist with the petrol to deliver drive to all four wheels, or is like the Rav-4 where the electric only powers the rear wheels? The Rav system, if I understand correctly, is flawed in that if the battery dies, you only have two wheel drive.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia5 ай бұрын
The e-motor in this is mounted at the gearbox (Hyundai calls it a 'Transmission Mounted Electric Device' (TMED). That's why the complete system produces 172kW regardless of FWD or AWD. So yeah, it doesn't matter if the battery goes flat this remains AWD.

Does the PHEV self charge? Does it always require to be charged by plugging it in? Thank you
@hellomark1Ай бұрын
It does self-charge, but not to the point that it would meaningfully charge the battery. If you have nowhere to plug in you're likely better off getting the regular hybrid.

I’d say this is an improvement over the previous Tucson in terms of the knobs and buttons, but I’d always rather have physical buttons than a touch screen for climate controls. I like the setup better on the Kona.

Bought the top spec Highlander diesel awd brand new a few months ago. I’d waited til I’d heard the specs of the hybrid facelift model before making the decision. Although the hybrid makes an extra 35kw, it’s down 66nm on torque which I think is more usable in a medium suv. Also the hybrid gets the 6spd auto whereas the diesel got the better 8spd torque converter auto? Yeah the hybrids fuel economy is a bit better but where I am in Sydney diesel can be 20-30¢ cheaper per litre. I think if you can get a diesel Tucson runout deal that’d be the best buy, I got a demonstrator with 40km on it for $53k drive away with a runout deal and free on road costs. Only thing I’d prefer from the facelift model is the new infotainment screen but not worth the extra ~$12k.

Are you guys in Australia have terrible Hyundai dealers like here in the US. Great product but among the worst dealers in the nation.

No they're good here , one of the best
@Molishious4 ай бұрын
I keep hearing the Hyundai dealers are bad and I’ve not gotten a good impression when test driving at my local dealership, but I don’t know if they are good or bad for owners really. Any idea why Hyundai dealerships would be any worse than others? Seems like it would just be an individual thing, with some dealers being better than others. My last car was a Kia and my experience was good overall.

I purchased my Tucson last year… It was my choice between the RAV4… The beautiful sleek dash/ screen integration is what swayed me to the Tucson … They have now exchanged this unique style to a tacky dash that looks like a bath tray to store junk and the screen stuck on top is distracting… Om sad at this because I’ll be letting go of this car soon and will need to leave Tucson
@mrsniffleupagus5 ай бұрын
You're on your own with that opinion. The new design is more functional and received well by ALL car reviewers. You're blinded by jealousy imo.
@gobrad5 ай бұрын
@@mrsniffleupagus 😂 that’s a very childish remark you made… I can assure you I’m not jealous … It’s my opinion which I used initially when choosing my Tucson over any other car in its field… I’m merely expressing my disappointment in the new design… For instance: All cars have the screen awkwardly stuck on top of dash… The Tucson was ‘unique’ in design with the screen/dash integration that beat its competitors!… In regards to you stating I’m on my own with that opinion, I’m in a car club who shares the same view with several other car clubs that have the tucson, some have already changed to RAV4 specifically because of the tacky design of the new Tucson…. The simple fact is that Tucson went from a unique sleek classy design to tacky …

@@mrsniffleupagus most owners of the pre facelift model think the interior looks like the Kona ans lost hus charm. Has zero personality, before it was so nice, integrated design and now just one large wide screen. They added some nobs but the electric heated and cooled seats are now on the touchscreen, before they had physical buttons. The head-up display is useless because of the hight of the other screens. The openings in the radiator are so big now that it will need more maintenance collecting bugs. A positive is the bigger rear wiper, but the space for the motor is still there. I've been a car enthusiast for 4 decades and always loved facelift models but this is not an upgrade to me and many others. Having said that it will sell.
