I to was ready to buy a Low Rider ST but being older (turn 62 next mont) the Indian 101 scout being almost 200 lbs less than the Low Rider made this an easy decision for me. Just need to test ride the Indian as Joe suggested and if I like the ride that will be my next bike. Good luck with you new bike ands safe travels my friend. 🙏

Test drove this particular model 6/14/24 i had the exact same thoughts as you after a drive. This bike has amazing power, traction control off, sport mode.. just smooth and never ending power. I thought the seat was very comfortable and could see doing a long distance trip on it. Very impressed, now if Indian would have these available to purchase, i would have probably purchased one. Dealer said best case scenario 4-6 weeks. Terrible that indian reveals thsi bike 4/2/24 and still do NOT have them at dealers in June.... come on MAN!!

@@user-si8hu6pz3t this scout in sport mode is unhinged. I don’t know what the top speed is because I obviously can’t go faster than reasonable highway speeds on a test ride, and I know they also have limiters installed on the demo bikes for safety reasons. Acceleration is amazing, and with a top end 111hp with a light bike, it should scream at the track.

They haven't yet arrived in Oz, and stlll about 6-8 weeks away. To me this really is a modern day classic, & I reckon I can fairly say that after 53 years of riding and owning a whole lot of different bikes. I upgraded from HD's to the mighty Indian Challenger 2.5 years ago, and never look back, except to see where my Harley mates are! LOL A great review; congratulations to Indian, and I love that parts are interchangeable across all 5 models. BTW, from what I hear that motor has HUGE potential for go-fast goodies!

Great review... thanks so much!! . You have a new subscriber. I turn 62 next month and have not ridden a bike since I sold my Harley Street Glide 17 years ago. I am buying a new bike for my Bday. I know they suggest lighter bikes as you age so would not buy a Harley Bagger but fell in love with the new Low Rider ST which weighs 100 lbs less then the Street Glide. I live in Austin TX and want a bike to cruise around the city but also take 4 hour cruises in the Texas Hill Country. I have to be honest and this new Scout 101 appeals to me just as much as the Low Rider ST even though the ST has that sweet 117 engine which is a torque monster plus has the fairing and saddlebags. . I do NOT like riding 100 MPH but love going from 0 - 60 as quickly as possible. I watched other reviews of the new Scout so I know it rips when you get on the throttle plus I believe it weighs 527 lbs which is a low compared to the Low Rider ST which weighs 727 lbs. That 200lb difference is huge. I would add leather saddlebags to the Scout which will slightly increase weight and also change pipes and do a stage 1 upgrade. I know you mentioned you also own Harleys so would greatly appreciate your thoughts as to which bike you would recommend. For a brief moment I considered a trike but feel like I can wait until I am 70 to get on 3 wheels. Thanks again for the review and look forward to hearing your recommendation. Safe travels my friend🙏

I’m glad you enjoyed the review! I rode the low rider st the day after this. Heavier, still fun. And the 117 is great, but this scout with a set of bags on it would be superb. Wouldn’t miss the low rider at all. If you have the chance to test ride both before you buy, that’s always the best option! But Indians quality is second to none. Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! I greatly appreciate it 😀 Ride safe and have fun ✌🏻
@director2bob
@director2bob 3 ай бұрын
@@MOTOBLADE Thanks so much for the quick reply. The fact that you rode both bikes and say you would not miss the LowRider speaks volumes about the Indian. Let me ask you this. Because the Indian is almost two hundred lbs lighter, did you find that the toque was comparable to the LowRider? I love to get up and go. . Its possible it may actually pull harder due it's lighter weight. And do you feel it would be a good bike for the longer cruises through the Texas Hill Country. For some reason I thought heavier bikes were better for cruising but I am not looking to go cross country and just spend a few hours riding those Texas backroads. As I mentioned my last bike 17 years ago was a heavy StreetGlide which is why I have that thought stuck in my mind. Thanks again for the advice and great channel!!
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
@director2bob the acceleration just based on feel with good ole “butt dyno” test felt very quick. Obviously it’s not as much torque on paper as the low rider st, because it’s a smaller engine, but it is liquid cool and it’s much lighter. As far as an afternoon of cruising, I stand by what I said in the video about taller bars and maybe a better seat for “touring” but that will depend on how long you intend to be on there.

The bike is beautiful, from all the reviews I've seen the performance is also excellent, but two things I would like to see on the Scout 101, a bigger tank (4 gallons maybe) and the option of matte black paint.
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
A matte black design would be cool - and you make an interesting point with the tank. I could not find a MPG claim on Indians website for the bike. So I don’t know if it’s ‘super’ fuel efficient or if it would greatly benefit from the larger tank or not. Would be nice to have some claimed range or mpg numbers for a bike when they release it 🤷🏼‍♂️

101 or sport chief or low rider s? What would you take and how much smaller is the 101 out them?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
For various reasons, the short answer is I would take the sport chief out of those 3. Long answer is I have videos on the other 2 bikes coming over the next month or so. Filmed. Just waiting in the queue. I don’t need the sporty smaller style bike. I like the sport chief because it’s the 116 engine, more torque (again much larger engine) and it can be made into more of a comfy cruiser/bagger which is more my style. Still being able to rock that awesome sport mode when I want to. Just my opinion but there’s more options and things you can on the sport chief platform. Best suggestion I can make, as always, is to test ride them for yourself. You will usually know right away which one you like best. Hope that helps ✌🏻

@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
The ride modes make it very approachable for a new rider. Handling is wonderful and it’s a very good reliable bike that you won’t get bored with and have to “upgrade” to something bigger and faster later. If you are a newer rider, don’t use sport mode (yet). Heck, even keep it in rain mode if you want for a bit, but standard is absolutely fine for everyone to ride comfortably with. Once you’ve built your skills with time and experience, open up sport mode! I’ve seen beginners take on huge touring bikes. Not about the bike, about being smart and riding within your limits until you’re comfortable. It would be awesome as a first bike!

Stop and go, quick to accelerate when needed? I have a long arm reach and long legs, so the forward controls should work for me, your thoughts? Is it worth the price tag? @MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE Ай бұрын
I will do my best to help you here but the BEST info I can give: go take a test ride on both from an Indian dealer. Lot of cash to drop, if a dealer won't let you test ride them both, take your business elsewhere and find one that will. That said… I'm 5'8", bit shorter than you. I didn't like being leaned forward as I'm more into cruisers, you will benefit from having longer limbs and the pressure will be better for you most likely. The suspension is fully adjustable and (at least for the road I was riding) soaked up a lot of the bumps and lumps in the road. Power and acceleration are SUPERB. Based on the information you stated above, I would advise you look at the sport scout limited with tech package. Why? More upright riding position with the bars and it has forward controls. Base model +tech package is $2500 less than the 101. Throw some bags on it and you've got a commuter. You noticed it's the same engine right? The 101 is unlocked with a performance calibration from your dealer (Indian lists this as currently $219 on their website for the calibration, most likely just a fast ecu unlock). Still come out ahead, already setup to be more comfortable. It's what I would recommend. Go back and read the first thing again though- try them both and see what you like, that's really all that matters. Hope that information all helps, thanks for watching!
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE Ай бұрын
and in case it wasn't entirely clear in my comment above - you can buy that calibration for $219 and unlock the full potential of any of the new speed plus scout engines - it just comes "standard" on the 101 scout from factory, hence why all the test rides on the 101 are cooler :)

I’ve ridden several Harley sportster s over the past few years. While on paper or at the track in a straight line it may be the better bike, my 2 cents is this: the Indian 101 scout handles better/corners better. It is more comfortable, sounds a bit better (the s sounds like a sewing machine), and looks way better (but that’s definitely personal preference). Also, just a seat of my pants test, but it feels like the acceleration on the 101 is better, for top end speed you’re never going to reach it unless you’re at the track or doing something you shouldn’t be anyway 🤷🏼‍♂️ that being said I have a video on the sportster s 2024 model coming in a couple weeks for a comparison, because a lot of you guys having been asking about it 😀

I like the paint jobs they did, but it would be cool if next year they added a “dark horse” trim package like on the bagger and touring models. All blacked out trim with the solid ‘smoke’ colors. I think this year for the introduction of the bike they were trying to pull a lot from a “heritage” theme into the bike.

I tried the 975 and the old Scout. I found the Nightster superior in every aspect except for the aesthetics of the left side of its engine. I definitely need to try the new Scout 1250 and also the Triumph Speedmaster 1200 before deciding which will replace my veteran and beloved Sportster 883.
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
The new scout with the 1250 definitely beats the nightster. Its more direct competitor would be the Harley sportster s. Another option to possibly consider is the Hammer performance 1275 kit for your 883. I have that in my 883 and love it. With a good air intake and tune I nearly doubled the torque from factory stock when we ran it on the dyno.

This is an appealing bike with a lot to offer. What I run into is access to reasonably closely located dealerships. Has Indian published projected dealership openings?

Vermont is FINALLY getting an Indian dealership. Access to dealerships is the only issue. I wish they would show a "coming soon" section of dealer maps on their site but they do not. I've been doing my own maintenance for 5 years. I'm so ready for the Indian dealer to open!!!

When I was building out my Iron 1275 bike, I relocated the Speedo using a kit to put it down on the side so it was just visually clean straight up the tank and through the bars. May be something available for this bike in the future - considering how POPULAR this bike is, it bound to get a lot of aftermarket pieces.

Lots of different options available. I prefer saddlemen seats for long haul comfort and I have a few reviews on them on my channel if that helps you out. I will have a review out on the new scout with taller bars. But Indians website has lots of accessory options with pics to get your dreaming about bike building. Hope that helps! Glad I could sell you on a 101! Be sure to let them know I sent you 😂 maybe they’ll sponsor me

Hey man! Great vid. I started riding last summer (have a Honda xr150l) and am looking to get a bigger bike. Have been looking at the scouts and heard a ton about them and done a ton of research. This new lineup looks incredible. Im 6'2 so am a little concerned about comfortability with my back. Will be going to test drive them soon, but any suggestions, tips, or thoughts as im looking for my first "bigger" bike?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
Remember that sitting upright and getting bars higher will straighten your back and make you feel way better. If a bike is good, seat, peg, and bar position are an easy cheap fix to fit it to yourself. So focus on the bike features - what you like and what you don’t, and remember you can change the “rider triangle” if necessary. One other thing - I love the look of the 101, but the sport has a more upright position if that helps. Other thing to not with a bigger bike - use caution if you put it in sport mode. It hauls butt 😎 have fun and ride safe brother ✌🏻

@MOTOBLADE Thanks man. My friend has the Sport Scout so I'll def take a look at that and see if it's more comfortable. I also LOVE the look of the 101, but at the end of the day, if I'm uncomfortable it's less safe. I'll try them all out and see how it goes. Wish you the best bro! Thanks for the tips.

How is the acceleration compare to the older harley night rod?
@MOTOBLADE

I’ve ridden the night rod. Doesn’t hold a candle to the Indian 101 Scout. This is one of the fastest little bikes I’ve ever ridden for speed and acceleration (excluding actual liter sport bikes of course).

@@MOTOBLADESportster S, even with its horrible design?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 ай бұрын
@@freebehindbars8654 just rode a sportster s at the same demo event. My choice would still be the 101 scout. The sportster s is no slouch, but just by the feel and acceleration, the 101 felt like it packed more punch. That’s just acceleration. You add in the looks, and the ride command tech, suspension, and design - Indian 101 Scout wins easily and it’s not even close (just my humble opinion :)

@@MOTOBLADE Power To weight is a thing, but that seat dyno is subjective. Sportster has significantly more hp, torque and lighter than this 101. I’m glad Indian is pushing this direction. Hopefully HD will put that RevMax from the Pan Am in a sub 500lb bike.
