Nissan is stepping up its game with the Ariya NISMO, an electrified performance machine that takes the standard 87-kilowatt-hour Ariya e-4ORCE and injects it with more power, sharper handling, and an aggressive design. With inspiration from Nissan’s motorsport heritage, this version aims to deliver a more engaging and dynamic driving experience while retaining the benefits of an electric vehicle.
The heart of the Ariya NISMO is a reworked powertrain that pushes output to 435 PS (429 horsepower or 320 kilowatts), a substantial increase of nearly 130 PS over the standard model. Torque remains at a robust 600 newton-meters, allowing the Ariya NISMO to accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. The boost in power is not the only upgrade, as the vehicle is also designed to handle corners with more precision and agility.
A key component of this enhanced performance is the tuning of the e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system. It now features a 60:40 rear bias, providing a sportier feel compared to the regular Ariya. Additionally, the system can adjust power distribution 10,000 times per second, ensuring optimal grip and stability. Nissan claims that these refinements result in a 12 percent improvement in line-tracing performance, meaning the car follows the driver’s intended path more precisely.
To complement the power increase, the suspension has been thoroughly revised. Engineers have modified the stabilizers, spring rates, and shock absorber settings to improve balance and body control, particularly at higher speeds. The steering has also been fine-tuned, delivering a more direct and responsive feel as velocity increases.
Braking performance has been enhanced with an updated regenerative system known as “i-Booster.” This feature improves energy recuperation while also boosting stopping power. Paired with new tires, it ensures drivers experience the full potential of the NISMO badge without sacrificing safety or control. Additionally, a new driving mode exclusive to the NISMO variant refines how the car responds to inputs, further enhancing the excitement behind the wheel.
On the exterior, Nissan has made subtle but effective aerodynamic improvements to give the Ariya NISMO a bolder look while also improving efficiency. New spoilers and air curtains help reduce drag, while a redesigned front splitter with vortex generators and extended lower bumpers work together to manage airflow. The rear of the car receives a twin diffuser and a ducktail spoiler, reducing lift by 40 percent compared to the regular Ariya, from a coefficient of lift of 0.18 to 0.11.
The vehicle rides on 20-inch ENKEI wheels embossed with the NISMO logo, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. These lightweight, cast-aluminum rims are produced using a proprietary process that allows for a strength-to-weight ratio similar to forged wheels, helping to reduce unsprung mass while improving braking performance.
Inside the cabin, Nissan has elevated the experience with premium materials and sporty design elements. The seats are upholstered in a suede-like material with NISMO-stitched logos, offering both comfort and support during spirited driving. Red accents and stitching run throughout the interior, including on the steering wheel, reinforcing the high-performance character of the car. A new blackened wood trim provides a modern and sophisticated touch, balancing the aggressive details with a refined aesthetic.
Despite these performance-focused changes, the Ariya NISMO does not compromise on practicality. It retains the spacious interior and technology features that make the standard model popular, ensuring a balance between daily usability and driving excitement.
The Nissan Ariya NISMO will be available in Gun Grey, Pearl Black, and two-tone options such as White Pearl and Stealth Grey. Sales are set to begin in January 2025 across European markets where the Ariya is currently available, with the exception of Cyprus, Malta, and Northern Ireland.
