I recommend putting a gm alternator for a duramax on it I did that on my 12 valve cummins swapped 05 chevy 2500hd the dodge pulley will bolt right on to the duramax alternator then its all internally regulated and you can mod the factory upper mount just needs widened and then make a custom lower mount just my 2 cents

The steering box is mounted in single sheer even after you repair the rail and fit crush tubes. Double sheer is when support is provided on both sides of the mounted component and the fastener passes through all 3. Cross hatch angle determines piston ring rotation speed. The depth of the cross hatch determines how much oil is held on the cylinder wall and the angle will affect oil retention duration. Oil and hone finish are the secret sauce of efficiency which is where performance comes from.

Also, there's a reason that you don't see a lot of vertical or cross welds on factory frames. It's called cyclic stress. Look it up. Round holes with rivets create way fewer stress risers.

They never cleaned or shaved the block. Then put it back together. Wow that cylinder wall like that would have blow by. The cross hatch on the cylinder wall is very important. Even on small engines.

I might consider it if I find a camera that'll do the trick for cheap. Then there's tha matter of the editing...which I niether have the computer nor experience to do. Lots of people conflate pretty weld with good weld. I would take a proper burned in 7018 over a pretty mig weld every day of the week. Unless its dual shield flux core.

The only real issue I saw aside from cosmetics was the front crossmember clearance. Maybe the guy thought it was getting lifted? Nothing wrong with the belt drive components, but I'm coming from an industrial background. That frame will be fine, not a ton of stress up there, not sure why he chopped the frame though. Your rebuild is an improvement. Looks like the original builder didn't have access to proper tooling. Like a plasma cutter

the biggest thing I ever learned building anything from model cars as a kid to semi truck repairs, you need to come to terms with what you don't know and understand you can't learn it over night and then compete with guys who have done it day in and day out for the last what ever years. What is your solution to run the stock Dodge AC pump & alt brackets & placement since the chevy frame is 4in narrower? Was that why they notched the top on the passenger side (stairstep)? Where did you get a non pinch style Pitman arm that's splined correctly to shift it 90 degrees? We always swapped out the box for a 2wd style. Thanks D

I would get another frame and put this out as a "how not to build a safe frame". Every time I take an engine apart I flush all oil and cooling channels in the block and top. It looks lile he used a ordinary honing tool with 3 stones.

I am not a certified welder, but even my first welds on my own were far better. I am also not a certified mechanic, and I knew as a young adult about cross hatching, which was not before the internet. I learned a lot for all those old Hot Rod magazines decades ago.

Ok yes the first the job is crude. I have been an engine builder for over 30 year and yes i have disassembled some junk done by other shops. Negative salesmanship is a risky game. Your basically calling the customer an idiot for letting somebody do that kind of work for him. So you have to be careful just say what is wrong and how you can fix it. ONCE. Promote yourself with what you can do not what they cant do. Be very careful to make sure the issues are real. Grinding down welds? I don't think I know of any real racing tech inspector that will allow ground welds. Not only does it weaken the weld but it can hide poor workmanship. Those welds looked ruff (have you ever looked at the welds on an OEM frame?) but you just ground them ? Ok I have a 2nd gen ram 12 valve. Look at the frame under one of those. Its pretty heavy massive. But they had a recall in the late 90's requiring large formed gussets to be installed around the spring pockets. The track bar mount is a forging welded on and the taper wallows out also That 12 valve IS HEAVY and it makes the torque down low which means much more stress on the front frame. The GM frames are known for cracking especially around the steering box and cross member area even with a small block. Its also leaf springs so the frame horns have stress. What your doing there in my opinion is not good enough. That small diameter windowed out cross member wont do it. get your strength from large diameter formed shapes instead of wall thickness and plates. Things also need to be over lapped or at least slotted and keyed together instead of butt welded. Preferably any welding on a frame should be parallel to the frame anything across the frame can cause a crack. Sometimes its necessary. any doubling Plates should be tapered to avoid a stress riser. That notch. should be 90 deg of a piece of round tubbing not a square notch making a stress riser.
