I rarely come in this comment section anymore but curiosity got the best of me here. I'm amazed at how y'all think I went so hard on 21. I thought I stated very diplomatically that it wasn't for me and that's really it. When I hear a rapper with his style but not a lot of complex lyrics it bores me PERSONALLY. But I also said I'm glad everyone else liked it. And, because of that, I tried to remove myself from the conversation because I wanted to let everyone else be positive. But y'all are mad about that, too? Hahaha! Can't win. Either way, respect to 21 and his fans. The rest of y'all...I'll just say "thanks for watching."

@MattMatrixJohnson5 жыл бұрын
That's cool. The rapping ain't great but Nobody's saying this is high quality rap. People enjoy it though and you can't help what naturally excites you. The product as a whole does what it's supposed to do. Someone should be able to agree this ain't "real hip hop" and still like it. Rap can be graded for technical quality but Music will always be subjective.
@jantawnjones5 жыл бұрын
You obviously haven’t heard blueface that dude is talking over a beat. About as watered down as possible

Stephen Obisanya Exactly. A lot of these folks have lame taste in music.
@stephenobisanya5 жыл бұрын
MattMatrixJohnson I agree that music is definitely subjective and what sounds “good” to me might sound “bad” to others. But I do think today we have to get more nuanced about how we engage in discourse about music, especially when it comes to hip hop. We can’t just lump everything into one pool and say “this right here is DOPE” without specifying the characteristics that lend to its dopeness. From the DEHH convo, it seemed like most of the crew’s opinions were influenced by the personality behind the music, not grading the quality of the music itself. Like what you like no matter what genre of hip hop it falls in, but I’d say it’s always worth dissecting WHY we like something and what that is a reflection of on a grander scale. You say the product as a whole does what it’s supposed to do-I’m not even sure what that is exactly.

I understand that this isn't Myke's type of hip-hop, but to say you don't get his appeal at all? The British jokes aside, 21 Savage has separated himself from the run-of-the-mill trap rapper since Savage Mode and if you're into the darker and grimier side of hip-hop like Mobb Deep (not lyrically, of course) or Three 6 Mafia, I don't understand how you couldn't at the very least appreciate what he's bringing to the table as far as aesthetics. He's not the best lyricist by any stretch of the imagination, but he picks the most hard-hitting and atmospheric beats out of his contemporaries and approaches them with some nuance, especially on Savage Mode. His calm, quiet delivery is an interesting contrast to his violent, but sometimes funny lines (almost like he's completely apathetic to the craziness around him) and he fits over those beats perfectly. At the end of the day, you like what you like, but I just thought I'd try to explain his appeal in the best way that I can. Edit: The reason why I wouldn't wanna hear these same lyrics from Big Sean is because I know for a fact he won't be able to deliver them with the same level of grit. Don't nobody wanna hear some squeaky voiced dude talking about shooting up niggas houses. No one would be able to take it seriously. Another edit: I'm very disappointed no one brought up "Good Day" with Schoolboy Q and Project Pat.
@anthonycelestin35595 жыл бұрын
Dont get the hate for Big Sean. Not the biggest fan but that Dark Side Paradise album was really great & put together well. Sometimes he has corny punchlines & his voice isnt always appealing but when wants too hes one of the best rappers. I think Big Sean has it in him to make rap fans respect him. Out of all the new rap I feel Big Sean is one of the few that still about the raps & he dont get credit for it
