It's a hard situation. You have to live it and see it to understand it. I am going through a very similar situation with my daughter. I have never left my daughter, ever... She chose to stay out in the streets. I always opened my door when she came knocking. What I couldn't do though is allow her to come and go, using drugs in our home, all while I took care of her son and my younger daughter. I've stood by her side every time she needed me. I have gotten her into the best rehab in my area. The owner/director told me all she had to do was make a phone call to her directly and she would have a bed ready for her. My daughter never made that call. She's od'd, been assaulted, robbed, been to jail countless times, yet she's still out there. Every phone call from jail is, "mom, please help me. Mom, I promise to change when I get out... Etc, etc... These are sad stories but this as she is telling it in the interview, is only a very small portion. A some point I had to choose. My sanity and my own sobriety, my grandson, daughter, husband, other kids, or allow this toxicity to continue. Once they're over 18 a parents hands are tied. I couldn't, and can't keep chasing someone that is not ready. An addict family member consumes a person! I would be balling like a baby, pleading for her to get help. She would give me a thousand mile stare and shrug me off... No emotion, no understanding of the hurt they cause to the family as a whole. Nobody wants to leave family behind, ever! At some point it becomes an heartbreaking choice of keeping the rest of the family safe and together. I hope that makes sense, but this is the reality and consequences of addiction within a family.

@@Kevin-mk6jo nope. They didn’t claim me Kevin. Nor 2 of my friends who followed me. I was a “functioning “ addict which is to me a term for living a double life and your family never sees you because you’re “working” so you are just about holding it together. I was lucky. But never wrote anyone off as long as there is hope. I was about 105 kilos. I had track marks but my family would ignore the elephant in the room as they didn’t want to address it as they would have to deal with it. I wanted so bad for one of my 3 sisters to go looking for me as I would have done for them. But instead they tried to get me kicked out. Luckily I was an after though by a mile so the youngest and my parents wouldn’t dream of it. If they had. I would have had nothing to lose and I know with all my heart I would not be here. I broke up with the then love of my life, had a car accident and for 6 months was on high doses of OxyContin. Then it was stopped point blank. I had no idea I was addicted. I went through hell. I didn’t choose to be a drug addict. In fact no one does. We are all human. You are great at judging but have you never made a mistake? Are you inhuman? Because humans make mistakes. It’s part of the package. I needed the physical and now the dependency addiction withdrawal to stop. So I bought dope to help me detox. But it’s not something that you can do on your own. And it’s always a case of “just one last time “ then give up it. It took me nearly 10 years of one last time before I met my husband to be who accepted me for who I was unconditionally and told me he just knew I wouldn’t always be on it. And he was right. I wanted a baby so bad that 3 months before trying I went to rehab. I now have 4 kids an amazing husband who I told told to stay away as I was only trouble and would never find the strength. It’s amazing what unconditional love and support can do. So you easily could have written me and my 4 kids off as never being achievable but thank God you are not the oracle. Other former addicts I am sure would think the same. Be careful. There’s an epidemic out there and black and white thinking is not only very uneducated but dangerous as it tars everyone with the same brush and life is full of full of white to many shades of gray then black. Remember you might have children and grandchildren if you’re lucky. Be very careful you don’t invite a lesson from someone you love more than yourself as life tends to give us lessons to teach us about empathy/ humility/kindness/ the list goes on. As it’s only when we experience something ourselves do we learn empathy. Sitting in judgment just shows how much you have not evolved in an area and it makes me sad as and when karma comes along and puts you in someone else’s shoes. Judge not lest you shall be judged is apparently in the bible somewhere and boy does life throw you curve balls. Over and out.

I don't think she have told her family of her situation, and I don't think that the family knows. I didn't hear anything bad about her parents; no physical abuse, stable family home and married. Her parents didn't like it when she quit school, sounds like normal parents. She took it the wrong way and her emotions got in the way, and she left. You can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. The streets over "being a puppet" sounds like a lack of accountability. As a father of 2 daughters myself, there are people who do not deserve to have kids. They did not ask to be born, it is our responsibility till the day we die to be there caretakers. Even as adults I would never turn my back on my kids, i would never forgive myself.

Girl, go back home while you still can. Get some treatment, counseling for PTSD, and get your GED online. You may think your "homies" are there for you now, but they certainly don't have your best interests at heart. You can do this, all it takes is the courage to take the first step. Good luck and stay safe.

An education is something nobody can ever take away from you. This time being homeless is an educational experience. She isn't realizing that she can make a choice of how she wants to educate herself yet. She's still young enough to make a major difference in how she shapes her future. With style and grace she'll find happiness.

Yeah, thats why you cant put your student loans on a bankruptcy. HOWEVER college is not education. Hints why we have 30 million Americans begging daddy government to pay their bills because they cant find a job that pays more than 40k with their masters in gender studies. She needs to go to a trade school. So she can work in the field while she's studying.

Honestly I thought that about my friend, his parents wanted nothing to do with him anymore. He got into drugs and was throwing his life away. Ended up on the streets, I helped him as much as I could, brought him clothes, food etc. took him to meetings, brought him to get his haircut, told him I’m always there to talk, he’s got someone that has his back. He has skills and is able to work and make a decent life for himself. So he managed to get off the streets and moved back in with his girlfriend and baby daughter after getting clean. But throughout helping him I noticed loads of different lies and things building up, seen a different side to him when he wasn’t getting what he was wanting, couple of months after getting back in with his girlfriend and daughter he completely ditched them and got into a relationship with someone else and got her pregnant. This has happened a few times before - a lot of these people only care about themselves and their own needs and when they aren’t getting what they want you see the real evil side of them and what they can do to the people that care about them. They use people as a tool to get what they want. Don’t care about the people they leave in their wake of madness. I used to feel bad for him, now I just feel bad for his kids that he’s spent time with then completely ditched.

@COJY06 oh trust me I know exactly how you feel . I have a niece that the only thing she has left of my cousin ( by marriage) and my wife's sister is their ashes and she just turned 14. It's sad some of the things drugs will have people turn into . Your not wrong for loving someone from a distance sometimes that's the way you have to be to better yourself and your situation. 💯🤙🏼

This is so heart breaking. I wish her parents take her back home and support her in anyway they can without forcing her to do anything against her wish. Instead of going to college just teach her what ever she is interested in. You don't need a f*kn degree for things you love to do. She has already been through a lot, she doesn't need to go through anything more.

Yes. There's so many ways to learn and add value to society without a degree. She should've been nurtured instead of being given an ultimatum which resulted in this.

In reality she should actually get back onto that business idea because education seriously is not for everybody what good is education I have three degrees and let me tell you you only learn technical language and up until University you learn how to be a good worker for others but not for yourself. Unless you're going to be a specialist doctor unless you're going to be a surgeon unless you're going to be a rocket scientist and they still going to be a scientist of some kind and engineer then I would probably guess the higher education is a big waste of time and it's a big waste of money.

Adriana seems totally broken and almost without hope. I did hear her say to her family that she's coming home. I'd go one better--If I knew where this girl is and she's family, I'd go get her----addiction and all. That would be the starting point. Family can best do that if there is anyone in the family that would step up. Lots of healing is ahead of her, and the family. Did she use your phone? Were you able to speak to her family member? Will you try to find her again? With no contact info, you are the connection if anyone, like me, would want to send support. She seems healthy; so far so good on that.
