I also lean on my wife (whos an actual artist) for these things, "sayin hey pick out the colors i'm going to need to get this effect, pls" I kinda doubt the little color bar is going to help a lot tho cause of...tone? Some hues already look the same to me but if some hues that i can normal tell apart have the same tone i can be blind to that as well.
@tabletopminions Жыл бұрын
I agree - it’s been much needed in the mini paint space for awhile now. Thanks for watching!
@ShameyBaby Жыл бұрын
Love the naming on the bottles. It’s so sorely needed in the mini painting space. Artists have a common language they can use when it comes to paint names (cadmium red, burnt umber, phthalo blue etc.) while we’re stuck with daft fantasy/sci-fi names. I see so many new painters asking ‘what paints do I need to paint this model?’ The answer should be simple. Look at the model and select the colours you see ie. Dark red, light green, etc. ProAcyril has been pretty good with this, now with AP hopefully we’ll see more brands do similar.
@jaeledwards1367 Жыл бұрын
That's not entirely true about the naming conventions though. It is somewhat true when they are aimed at Fantasy/Sci-Fi painters, but if you look at the Vallejo Model Colour/Panzer Aces range, the MIG colours, even the old Tamiya range you get "Nato black-grey", "Japanese uniform", "RAF mid sea grey" etc straight out of the bottle because they are trying to replicate something from real life. The colour triads thing isnt new either - Reaper used to do it, foundry did too, and it's common in "modulation effect" airbrush paints for planes and tanks. Not throwing shade at all - even though I mostly paint things in shades of brown and green and I have no use for glowing nuclear vomit effects I'll be trying out lots of stuff from this range.

I love the fact they have a complete set like this, but at 700+ dollars its kind of ridiculous cost point all at one go. And that does not even include the Speed Paints that so many people would want in connection to the new Fanatic line. Also to be fair you're not buying these you are being granted access to this set for free, so consider that in your review. Ahh the benefits of being a influencer. ;) Yes the bottle labels are nice, also the 6 paints in their trifecta sets is pretty cool. They really thought about this new set and it shows... they may now be the top dog in the hobby. With this number of paints I will have to buy them in stages, I am not sure if they will have sets that allow me to buy them in steps without buying doubles or triples of some colors. This is a great review of the paints... like I said Army Painter may of just taken the top spot in the hobby with this and the Speed paints 2.0. I'm a Vallejo guy, currently, as I still have lots of their paints left from when I built scale models. But I can see myself slowly replacing VMC colors with these ones here, or buying colours I don't have (yet). If they're as good or better than, say, AK 3rd Gen (of which I have but a few), and with better availability, it's a no-brainer! Certainly the effects and washes that you demonstrated here are worth it because they look excellent! Can't wait.
@theandf Жыл бұрын
Why would you replace Vallejo? Their Game Color line I assume? Their Model Color line is unmatched for realistic colors, I don't think even these Army Painter new ones can match it. For fantasy, sure... I'm experimenting with speedpaints myself.
@ex-voto Жыл бұрын
@@theandf I'm replacing Vallejo with Army Painter. Ive used Vallejo since I moved country & had to rebuy everything. Im not impressed at all. They are dull & very easily get over diluted on wet pallete. Im going back to Army Painter, their colours are brighter & so don't turn to grey with washes. Maybe everyone just has a preference, I found citadel pretty good but I hate the pots so much.
@revylokesh1783 Жыл бұрын
@@theandf I use Model Color, not Game Color, and yes, their range is excellent in terms of realism. But I find their color swatches (pdf, website) quite "off" a lot of the times, so finding the right color is very often hit and miss! AP's triad system seems quite promising in that regard.
@theandf Жыл бұрын
@@revylokesh1783 thanks for the reply. I love Model Color but I agree about the swatches. Actually this is currently a problem for me with Speed Paints 2.0: I cannot get the hang of the colors. Availability is such a huge factor for me. Every store near me has AP stuff so if some single colors on the rack are missing I can hop around a few locations trying to track it down. Only two stores in like 100km of me carries pro-acryl on the other hand. I really like pro-acryl but it's not easy for me to get. Vallejo is more prevalent for me but their range is so utterly massive between their air lines, metal colour, game colour, model colour, FX paints, and primers that the odds of a store having all the racks and also have them have stock is low. Either way, I'm not a paint loyalist. I'll prime in pro-acryl, layer with vallejo, use a GW contrast for hair, wash with AP, and use AK for effects after.

They still got it wrong, but at least they didn't fall into the stereotyped "radiation glows green" myth -- that's the result of conflating the color of the _phosphor_ in radium dials with glow emitted directly from the radioactive elements; if you do an image search for "water pool reactor", you'll see that the radiation coming off the reactor core is a turquoise glow, not a green one. Fortunately, the 'plasma glow' color covers that.

From the reviews I've seen on the new Warpaints: Fanatic line I am planning on ordering the complete set. One thing that has really stood out to me across all the reviews I've watched is the added value found within their flexible triad system. Where traditional triads are just three color tones having their color tones in groups of six is great for a number of reasons. First as many have pointed out within that six color tone grouping you'll actually be getting four triads. I also like the fact that all six tones can be used to make smooth gradients. Another thing that seems possible with this flexible triad system that I don't recall having been mentioned is there seems to be a lot of forgiveness for accidentally applying the wrong shade. For example say your using the number four blue as your mid tone but you accidentally grab and apply the number three blue where there doesn't appear to be huge shifts in tonality between tones adjacent to each other it seems that will allow some leeway especially for those who are new to miniature painting.

Explicit labels are going to change my partially colorblind life with the hobby. I used to paint the lid and write the paint name on the lid too (and I will probably continue), but not needing to ask my wife or my kids what’s the best match to a particular result will be awesome. My guess is I will start with 2 to 3 tones in each colour group because with the whole thing the transition will probably be too subtle for my eyes, but at least I will now have the choice, regarding my own disability.
