MGM built a 1:12 twist hornet 27" for me. It is quiet and like a laser. I have no issues with a neck/head shot on a deer. Excellent gun. My Sako gathers dust.

I've got a couple bolt rifles in 22 Hornet, but I like my 20" MGM contender 17 Hornet barrel even more! I'm up to 8 contender barrels but the hornet has got to be my favorite - such a fun rifle to shoot when you can crank up the scope as far as you want and you never lose the sight picture.

No personal experience with the 22 Hornet. But I do have some personal experience (incl reloading) for the .220 Swift. That rifle was traded a while ago. Just didn't use it enough and the cartridge is one that requires some dedication due to how hot it is. These days, I could find a lot of appeal in something medium to medium-hot in the .22 cal cartridges. 22 Hornet comes across to me as being a little more on the low end (above rimfire) and a challenge for reloading due to flimsy cases. 222 Rem holds appeal, ridiculously accurate. The 22-250 Rem is the most venerable in my opinion but leans more toward barrel-burner status, unless down-loaded substantially which it can do very well without issues.

Question for you: Ruger 77/22 uses a 1:14 barrel twist and CZ 527 uses a 1:16 barrel twist. You recommend 1:12. Mostly, I'm looking for accuracy and repeatability. Thoughts?
@MatchGradeMachine4 жыл бұрын
For rimfire 1:16 is standard. This video is about a centerfire cartridge shooting MUCH faster and requires a different twist rate.
@dgreenapple4 жыл бұрын
@@MatchGradeMachine The CZ 527 22 Hornet IS A CENTERFIRE RIFLE and the barrel twist is 1:16. The Ruger 77/22 Hornet is the same and has a twist of 1:14. I guess "y'all" have no valuable answers. That's OK. I can see how it would be hard to explain that 3 great quality products built buy the world's leading manufacturers all shoot well with different twist rates.

Y'all need to check these guys out. I wanted to try the .17 mach II and then maybe later rechamber it to .17 HMR. 500+ rounds later, I am just too pleased with this set up to change a thing. Yesterday, I set up at 44 yards (ranged with a laser rangefinder) and shot a 0.21", 5-shot group with CCI VMax ammunition. My largest group at that distance measured 0.44" and was shot with the Hornady VMax ammo.
@calangel4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, that's strange. My CZ527 with a 1:16" (actually 1:16.25") can stabilize 50gr soft points. I even loaded the powder charge down to simulate a 150yrd impact (2200fps), and I hit the target without keyholing at 15yrds. Keep in mind that velocity sheds off faster than does RPMs, so a real 165yrd impact from a full power 50gr load (2800fpa) would have a higher RPM than the light load that I did at close range. BTW, those are some lovely rifles. I would definitely by a custom barrel for my CZ527 if you made them.

Not sure why there is a misconception of this round only being available only for small game 🤔 the smallest round the 35vmax pushes out 728 ft• lbs some of the others hit over 800 ft•lbs. So what is that comparable to??? A 9mm is 400 ft•lbs a 5.7x28 is also 400 ft•lbs. Now something tells me those rounds were not for shooting mice and squirrels & this round is twice as powerful #wise up people!
@MatchGradeMachine4 жыл бұрын
Bullet construction for those light bullets as well as no one is big game hunting with a 9mm. So I struggle to see what you mean. Varmint bullets in a small cartridge makes it very effective as a Varmint cartridge. Rock chucks can be much larger than mice but are still considered varmints

Depends on what you want and length. My 21" Max Bull with 6 screw Picatiny and dovetail shotgun lugs was $480 I think it was... You want one of the fluting designs, one of the coating colors or even two for fluting design highlights prices go up... The have a barrel designer at MatchGradeMachine.com that will let you select your options and give you an idea. Or they have stuff they stock on their site they can ship right away. Few other places have their own custom stock items.

The scope level is a waste of time. By the time you take your eyes off the level to shoot, it ain't level again.
@MatchGradeMachine4 жыл бұрын
It is very important for long range shooting. For 100 yard testing not as critical. This scope is used on many rifles at the shop and a level is very important. You can hold still enough to keep it level before a shot.
