Thank you for covering Susan's case. Her Mom and mine were friends and all locals knew about her abduction, but the case was fumbled terribly. Fate took out all the players in this crime through karma. Sadly, she still lies out there somewhere. I feel on the Winding Staircase, but that ground was changed through mining, etc. I took the job she worked at the IGA later, and often was asked about her. Mom wished to have seen this resolved and Susan found in her lifetime, but she did not make it. I hope Susan is found during mine. Another case in the same area with a missing body is of Mrs. Loader. Mrs. Loader's granddaughter was Susan's co-worker at the IGA. Small town coincidences. Jeannie Nicely's disappearance had a bit different details. Locally it was known there was a claim her car had some blood in it as if she might have been killed in it. Of course, that was local gossip at the time, and I don't think I saw much "official" word on it. With Susan, there were eye witnesses to the car she got into, and everyone knew who the passenger's in that car were. But no blood. John Lawver was my cousin, but I had no love for him or his way of policing. Susan's son Damien grew up to be a fine man, last I heard. He was graduating high school last time I saw anything of him. On that night people said they saw the Parrish's later that evening. True or not-- maybe the investigation knows. But that meant they only had about 20 minutes to 40 minutes at most to do whatever they they "allegedly" did. A radius around narrows the search I would think, for evidence--but the police work being as it was-- well.. Anyway...

Additionally, the friend’s of the cousin’s, for the year prior to the incident need to be interviewed. Certainly using ground penetrating radar on the Cappel farm would be a good idea, if consent could be obtained. What is the size of the Gilmore farm? Finally, Allen’s projects that he had involvement in at the Ohio Department of Transportation should be documented and reviewed for potential sites that may have been used by him. Interesting that Allen never seemed concerned about his ex wife’s disappearance, and wanted to maintain the idea that she was still alive. If he really knew he wasn’t involved, wouldn’t he be worried about what really did happen to her, and if she was hurt or killed by someone? No one else would have a reason to kill her, and she wasn’t dragged into a car by a stranger, she was seen willingly getting into a blue car, plus there’s also another statement from a witness who knew her younger sister and would’ve been vaguely familiar with Susan, that they saw her in a blue car with her ex husband. It sounds like he used the Parrish’s vehicle to pick her up. They may have been entirely unaware he was planning on killing her to keep custody of their child, but considering the fact that there were multiple alleged witnesses that stated an unnamed person asked them about killing her or abducting her, it’s hard to believe Allen isn’t that person, and that he wasn’t asking friends to assist in getting rid of his ex wife. I also found the defensive letters to the editor written by friends and family of Cappel and the Parrishes to be pretty interesting. They sounded like they knew their loved one was involved and were indignant about it being brought up repeatedly in the paper, as opposed to concerned about Susan’s disappearance and what happened.

Cases like this are the _most_ frustrating, cases where the victim goes willingly (without apparent force or threat), and the person that took them is never identified. For most people the number of acquaintances who could persuade someone to get into their vehicle is going to be no more than a few dozen, and often less than that. So the failure of the police to track down that person is often only a matter of lack of resources, apathy, or laziness.
@lindabrosky1042 Жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you

But you don't know who a person knows. People said the exact same thing about Brenda Heist and you know how that turned out.
@pulaski1 Жыл бұрын
@annabellelee4535 But the Brenda Heist case is an extreme outlier, not least because she turned up alive. And she wasn't abducted by someone she _knew,_ she was just talked into leaving on the spur of the moment, by strangers she apparently met at random. I am talking about cases where the victim was _known_ to have gone willing, (not abducted by force or threat) and where there are witnesses/ video evidence to support that fact. I know that scenario is only a small minority of missing person cases, but it's still a common enough scenario, which is why I mentioned it, that such cases should _generally_ not go cold.
@annabellelee4535 Жыл бұрын
@@pulaski1 Missing persons are overwhelmingly found alive though. As for long term missing, there are examples of them, enough to have a name for the phenomena, "maliciously missing" which is an overly emotional tag. Remember missing man Jon Van Dyke? Car found disabled on the freeway and he is never seen again until years later when he divorces his wife.
@pulaski1 Жыл бұрын
@annabellelee4535 Yes they are found alive, which is another reason why the Brenda Heist case is irrelevant to the point I raised. That said people reported missing and found alive are most likely found within 24hrs, and every day thereafter it gets progressively _less_ likely that they will be found alive. The chances of someone missing for one year showing up alive is very close to zero. Brenda Heist was a rare counter-example, like the three women found alive in Cleveland, Ohio in 2013, who had been missing for 10 years were another example, but Even Elizabeth Smart was only missing for 9 months, and Jayme Closs was only missing for three months.

We all know what happened here. She gets a date for custody hearing and on the very same day she goes missing?! Even her coworker said that she made it clear that she was annoyed before entering that car. We don't know what was said, but it's easy to assume that if it was her husband, he could have said any number of things to get her in. If it was someone else acting on his behalf, also could have said any number of things, from "I am your husband's lawyer," to "Get in, your husband sent for you, the baby is sick" or something in those lines.

They didn't know what they were dealing with. A custody battle was going on and the wife is missing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what they were dealing with or maybe they do. For the husband to take custody of the baby and then give it to his Aunt he was a control freak.Of course, I think her ex-husband made her disappear and she is probably dead. I don't think she left her family willingly. Allen had friends, Patrick "Rick" and his cousin Robert "Kelly" Parrish, whom Susan's parents suspect were involved in her disappearance. Rick owned an older model blue Plymouth Satellite similar to the car Susan was seen getting into the day of her disappearance. Two weeks after Susan's disappearance, Rick, Kelly, and another individual were killed inside that vehicle in a single-car crash. It is a shame they didn't get the wreck and try and see if there was any DNA or evidence that Susan was in that car. It doesn't mean the Parrish's were the ones driving but they could have let Allen borrow the car. You wonder if he had any other friends or family that had a blue car like the one seen. I think it easy to figure out what they said to her it was probably something regarding her son and maybe either the custody issue or getting to see him since her husband had canceled her last visit with her son. I'm so tired of these police departments getting in fights over jurisdiction. Or they don't reach out for help. They have to stop letting there ego's getting in the way and do what is best for the victims and their families. My heart goes out to her family.

This is one of the most gut wrenching and heartbreaking cases I’ve ever heard. Shame on the police department for not doing their job, you utterly failed this family. The so-called husband knew how much Susan loved her son and how hard she fought to regain custody so he knew she didn’t leave on her own. It’s a dead giveaway anytime an ex say the missing person left town voluntarily. And even if she did leave voluntarily how on earth, could he be so nonchalant about her disappearance, she was the mother of his child for heaven sakes, he should’ve been out searching for her and passing out flyers! I have no doubt, that he is responsible for Susan’s disappearance. Susan said a blue car was following her, it had to be her husband driving his friends blue car, how else would he have known Susan had went out for the evening and left their son with the babysitter, how would he have known where to pick his son up if he wasn’t following her? I just hope and pray that Susan is found, her family needs closure if there is such a thing!💔😢

That doesn't explain the 'look of annoyance' reported by her coworker. It was likely her husband offering access to her son. And the driver couldn't be sure he/she wouldn't be identified, especially if it was the husband or another local. So was Susan brought back to her car later and then abducted by a stranger? Such a frustrating and sad story. You can’t help but ask yourself, who would benefit from her disappearance? The only person that I could come up with would be her husband. She was in the middle of a nasty divorce and custody battle. It may not have been the husband that was in the car, but it could’ve been someone he sent to pick her up. Possibly the way they got her to get into the car was to say something like, your husband wants to talk to you about the baby. That could be why she had the look of disdain on her face when she got in because she had to see her estranged husband but knew she needed to because it involves her son. Just speculating but why else would she look frustrated and actually get in the car? I hope and pray that there is resolution. I’m so sorry for the parents and family. My heart goes out to them.

Actually even then it was very very unusual for a mother not to be granted custody of her children. It might be useful to know WHY she didn't get custody and how likely it was she would have been granted it in the hearing that was about to happen.

People are thinking way to deep into this IMO. Susan walks out the door with a coworker and a car pulls up and Susan gets in. Looks like she was getting a ride from someone she knew and he was there to pick her up right on time. This car was right by both girls. The man says something to Susan she says something back and the coworker apparently didn't hear what either had said. Susan turning around and rolling her eyes doesn't sound like the man said something derogatory. He may have said something jokingly and Susan may have figured the coworker had heard it so she just rolled her eyes not in disgust but in a joking way. There are a few things I'd like to know and a few kind of red flags. Did Susan always leave her purse money and ID at home when she went to work ? Did Susan always come directly home after work ? It sounds like she did but her parents saying she was home by 9:15 doesn't sound plausible. You just don't walk out the door once your shift is over. If you add up the time it takes to clock out add maybe a couple of minutes of small talk like she did with the coworker and the walk to the car and the mile drive home it's doubtful she is walking in the door at 9:15. It's just odd they were so precise. Susan's dad going to the store might be nothing but it does seem like an excuse for him to go there for some reason maybe to check on her. Why would someone go to the store at 6 pm to get food for dinner ? Why was Susan denied custody ? That almost never happens to the mother. Her comment of I AM going to the custody hearing. Why even make this comment ? Was there ever any question of her not going ? I don't see her husband telling one of his friends to pick Susan up after work and get rid of her for me. Actually I think that's ridiculous. Equally ridiculous is some strange guy using a derogatory remark as a pick up line to lure Susan in his car. Both scenarios would involve a man who has very bad intentions showing his face and car to the entire parking lot. Susan knew who this man was imo and he was there to pick her up as planned. Who ever this man was he wasn't known to her parents which I don't find too surprising and it would be equally as likely for her husband not to know. Maybe this man was married or maybe they just wanted to keep this lowkey until after the hearing. I find it really hard to believe this guy was confident enough to have plans to get rid of her and be stupid enough to show his face and car. If he did do something to her and it wasn't planned then he got lucky, but that's totally different. There aren't too many scenarios that would bring about Susan meeting her demise that night. It's possible she partook of something and overdosed and the guy panicked and got rid of her. Running off together is possible but not very likely at all. I don't see any reason for or how it would even be possible her husband being involved. He already had custody anyway and from the comment Susan made it sounded like she had doubts about even going or else why reiterate the obvious.

Notes: 1) According to her coworker, Susan briefly talked to the person behind the wheel of the blue vehicle , flashed a look of disgust or disdain reportedly and walked over to the drivers site , got in and the car drove off. Here's whats odd: If Susan was irritated by this person behind the wheel , why opt to get in the car with them? Susan had her own car parked in the lot . Why not tell the person she could meet them at wherever they wanted to go and drive over herself ? Something doesn't add up here. If she chose to get in this blue car, she had to be convinced to do so for some reason. Otherwise she could have taken her own car. 2) Allen strikes me as someone who might have some involvement but whom.i don't think ultimately dealt with Susan here. Allan insisted on divorcing Susan and getting custody of his son. They were already separated. Thus there wasn't anything other than custody for Allen to gain in terms of Susan. In fact, All ens moves strike me as a way to punish Susan not control her. Considering that Susan left the home 3 times to get away from Allen during their difficult marriage, it wouldn't make sense for Susan - if Allen was behind the wheel of this blue vehicle - to get into the car with Allen with whom she was contesting custody of her son. 3) The official investigation seemed to be steered by apathy and then bungled. The newscomerstown dept seemed to want to rid themselves of this case as soon as they could. The prosecutor wasn't helping matters ant either . The siphoning of reward money to an undercover informant is a move I haven't seen but which doesn't surprise me as regards the readiness of small town depts. 4) I get the feeling there was something else going on with Susan. I don't think her disapoearance was tied to the divorce and custody battle but maybe romantic interests of others gone horribly wrong.

Her co-worker noted that when the car pulled up outside for her, she made a face and got it. I am thinking this can go 2 ways: Ex husband was in the car or he sent someone and they asked her to get in so the two of them could talk before the hearing. She was brought somewhere and killed. Or she had a stalker or someone that liked her. This person came by her work and asked to out to talk, for a drink or something. She made that face to her co-worker as she was annoyed by him and figured she would humor him. That person took her somewhere and killed her. I am not quite sold on the idea of her running away.
