Just a suggestion? If you’re worried about water clogged clay soil, remember trees suck up water at a hell of a rate? Further if you want the slope stabilized root systems help. I understand why the tree had to come out, but my suggestion is more aimed at strategic planting of new saplings - if they can be sourced for sensible money? Alternatively you might be able relocate younger saplings from further up the hill. Really enjoyed watching your progress - think your work ethic and attitude are ‘epic’ - you deserve to reach your goals and the success which is guaranteed with it. Best of luck.... 👋🤠

The fact that you thought about and care so much for the tree as a living thing shows a lot of your character. I had to clear some large trees off my property a while back and I know the feeling/internal struggle. I planted a couple new trees in a different area of the property with my sons and that helped.

I have a Doug Fir near my house (25 ft), and I'm constantly up on the roof getting needles out of the gutters. If it wasn't on the property line, I'd take it down in a heartbeat. It's about 40" at the base. My dad and I took down a limb that went over the house - 16" at the trunk - the thing is a monster. Nice video - good to see someone else fall down too!

How far do you plan to crawl for your first aid kit if something happens? Your saw is plenty big. Instead of a new saw, get some chainsaw chaps, a first aid kit for your belt, a cheap electric chain sharpener, and 3-4 chains. Those cheap sharpeners do work, and whenever your notice your chain getting dull, change it for a fresh one. 3-4 fresh chains with you should keep you going all day unless you get into the dirt. And a wood chipper won't care about the sap from those branches, and it will make great chips for walkways between beds etc.

cant live life in fear of hurting your self. if so we be wrapped in bubble wrap and helmets. he did fine. his experience over rides needs for first aid kits. his main concern was wind and tree falling on house. safety first but never plan a job to omg i better keep my first aid kit in my pocket. nah. if you are that scared then please hire someone else. we dont want you getting hurt :)

I'm not 100% sure what a first aid kit will cover when dealing with a potential chainsaw wound. Sounds like he would probably need a trauma kit/tourniquet. Anyways. Its always better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

The fabric is well worth the time and money! The tree at 70 yrs. old on a hillside like that was due to come down! The wind would have done it for you! Its good to take it while it healthy,that way its usable! Id get stone on that road before any hard rain,it will turn into mush,and take forever to dry out! Looks nice!

You are the example of reason over emotion. Live according to reason, but acknowledge the emotional side. Honor the tree emotionally by making, as suggested, a dining room table out of it. Would suggest waiting for the sap to dry off, and chipping it for mulch. That way it stays with the land and your family. Good job!

You can replant a sapling or several later and make it a celebration with your family. My son doesnt like to cut big Oaks here, but sometimes they die from lightening, bug damage and sometimes they are just in the wrong place. I have two in the yard right now that need to go, one Oak shading the gardens, and 1 Elm too near the barn.

White Pine and Douglas fir tender greens make for some beautiful wreaths. I'm looking at all that material and thinking of all of the beautiful decorations I could make with that. The tree will make some beautiful stock for your building needs.

Let the Mrs. Pick the replacement tree. I'm thinking willow or dogwood, but another fir would work as well. Willows have created-song as well, and great water/soil retention properties. The Dogwood is available in a large selection of colors and plays well with the wind also. Sad such a healthy specimen had to go, but I understand the placement of the house required it for safety's sake. Making great progress, keep the faith, your family should be enjoying this new home soon enough.

That tree needed to go, and one big storm away from ruining your house or killing a family member... people get attached to trees and I can understand if it was planted by the family... I like the suggestion of transplanting saplings into better spots to enjoy... Big Pines do make wonderful noise in the wind, but their root structure makes them prone to falling in big wind and rain.. Once you cleared all the other trees it was a sitting duck.. Your videos are a blast, you are recreating movie style of Dick Proneke ..using the backhoe was genius... put a wine barrel flower box on the stump and you will have a nice memory..

Hate dropping trees. Had a doug fir and two noble firs that needed to go out of the back yard. The doug fir was measured in length at 118 ft. The top had died out about 10 ft so it was time. Four ft above grade it measured 56" in diameter with a tap root that stretched across the yard for 20 ft. Took me two weeks chipping out that stump. Beautiful tree.... went straight to Japan. And Pinetop? Thought I recognized a couple short sleeved shirts you always wear....local shop there? Small towns are a kick.... someone has a really good sale on shirts and everyone walks around town with the same shirt on. For years....

You could make a shade structure from the branches once they're cleaned up. A fort for the kids. The needles can be allowed to break down to add to compost. The sap wouldn't be a problem once they stop bleeding.

$25 for a new chain will save your back a lot of pain and stress. I noticed you using an aftermarket bar. My old Stihl still has the right bar on it because I've not been impressed with Oregon chains and bars. Anyhow, just like a dull knife will hurt you, so will a dull chain. Love your videos! Keep up the good work, and I hope your doctors visit went well.

Not sure if you are allowed - but up here in BC, we generally go out on the logging roads here first part of June sometimes end of May and harvest cuts left behind or some dead standing firs that the company didn't take for our fire wood - sometimes they leave enough rounds behind that we get enough for a couple of cords - anyways some folks have spent a dime for firewood

Retired excavating contractor here that had backhoes, excavators and bulldozers in my fleet along with some other equipment. You said you want to get rid of the backhoe and get an excavator because an excavator is more capable on steep ground! I can tell you that I will take a backhoe into places that an excavator would never go. Each machine has it's good points and bad points, but if I had to narrow it down to one machine It would be the backhoe over the excavator. backhoes are not the perfect machine, but they do a lot of things pretty well. Fabric on your driveway is the correct thing to do. Fabric is the equivalent of 1 foot of rock if you put 4 inches or more rock on top of it. In other words fabric and 4 inches of rock would equal 14 inches of rock.

you need a retaining wall back of your house as well; this is a muddy hill; that is soft soil which is prone for landslide. so retaining concrete wall back of the house 4 feet more wider than the width of the house and two to 4 feet taller than the current level of soil.

Please wear chainsaw chaps and eye protection. All it takes is a small nick on your thigh in the wrong spot and you'll bleed out. Eyes are particularly in danger from flying debris. I had a trip to the urgent care clinic to get a small piece of wood removed from my eye recently just from pruning trees. Painful. I learned my lesson.

Ask him to provide you with an emergency medical kit designed for you and your capabilities when you are in the woods alone. This should include a selection of prescription medications and training on how and when to use them. Familiarize the doctor with the hazards you may encounter so that he can prescribe those things you might need. Once again, training in their use is of paramount importance. use your experience to help the medical professional visualize the hazards, their potential severity, and potential for temporary immobility. Emphasize that your goal is immediate return to either a location where you can call for help or emergency travel to a location that can provide appropriate care. Don't rely on that cell phone to work when you need it most! If the use of powerful pain medication is warranted (likely in the case of severe injury) be prepared to give him information that will assure him you will use these medications appropriately. Instant clotting gauze is something most people don't know about. It has proven its value in Iraq and Afghanistan. Chitogauze is available on Amazon and is absurdly expensive as is anything intended to save your life and that actually works… probably costs a buck or two to produce and package. Stay safe.

I have been toughing it for a long time and calculated risk is a daily part of my life too. I commend you for all your efforts and hope we see the light at the end of your tunnel. My grandfather passed away several years ago out in western Washington where he had about 20 acres of beautiful second generation Douglas Firs. He did Heavy Equipment his whole life also so he had everything you need to build a road. But Mom auctioned everything off sold the house and property and had all them beautiful trees cut down that was sad. She left me with nothing.

Not sure why you had to tell everyone that you had people around today with wanting to cut down a tree, but really had to tell everyone when they left and you were all alone. Seems like you want negative comments coming your way. You work on the roof without a fall harness the next video you say you don't see your self a risk taker , the next video you have a harness on that is nailed inside a window that would not hold your weight and a strap that was to long that you would hit the ground first anyway. Another channel that I watch was hurt really bad last week in a accident that could have been avoided , you need to wake up before your kids don't have a dad around. My dad was a professional logger in Tillamook Oregon when he was killed in a logging accident when I was 3 years old, now i'm 60 now I sure wish I had that time back. For Cedar and your kids please be more careful.

this is super hindsight.... but i mean a year ago but. the chinese are famous for transplanting mature trees and moving them from one location to another. they usually do this in the fall near winter. I'm sure some of the trees could be saved? not trying sound like a treehugger.
